When painting doors subject to various outdoor elements, it is essential to use exterior paint. This type of paint is specially formulated to withstand moisture from rain or snow, resist mold, and resist moisture. Inside doors can be painted with high-quality latex-based paint, while external doors like front doors need a primer.
Sliding patio doors can be painted because they do not rub against the frame. A 100 acrylic paint will adhere directly to either fiberglass or vinyl, and an acrylic-based primer can also be used first. Scotch Blue Exterior Painter’s Tape is highly recommended for its effectiveness.

This is a 3-Panel, 9ft (wide), 6’8 (tall), patio door made by Alside. This is a great deal and an extremely high-quality door.
Anyone attempting this should be reminded that in this case, overspray was not a big issue because the house is already white. If the house had been any other color, the wrapping paper or brown kraft paper would need to be taped all around the outside of the doors as well, otherwise you’ll have white overspray and white spots on anything near. Great job, BTW, I may go ahead and paint my own sliding door frames as well! Thanks
Thank you! I have dark brown sliding glass patio doors from my living room to what is now an enclosed patio. I am going to paint them white and add grids. I had considered going to the expense of installing French doors however my contractor suggested I should make the new doors sliders in case someone in the future wants to open the patio again. So a big expense to replace them more or less for Cosmetics as they work well and are heavy duty. Hoping this gets me the look I want the cheap.
