In this video, Mark Donovan provides a step-by-step guide on installing trim around a sliding glass door. The installation process involves careful measurement and consideration of the size of the door frame and the type of trim. The exterior trim, known as brick mold, is installed in three sections: one on each side of the patio door and one across the top. Trim is not only for appearance but also serves to cover the door.
To properly install a sliding glass door, work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the wall and be on the lookout for any issues. The final steps include covering the exterior of the new wall section with shingles. For a quick update, add decorative trim around a doorway for a cost-effective way to add curb appeal.
To trim out the exterior of a new patio door using flashing tape and Azek trim, remove the baseboard where the door trim will be placed, cut and attach hardboard to the inside of the door frame, attach the 1×6 door trim to the sides, and attach the X-acto knife, small crowbar, hammer, and PVC brick mould. PVC brick mould is a cost-effective option but is worth it.
For Andersen® A-Series Frenchwood® gliding patio doors, follow the instructions provided in the instruction guides. On the exterior of step-down landings, install support trim underneath the sill where it extends past the landing. DO NOT apply sealant between the trim and the door.
