Why are BMW Alpinas so expensive?

The Alpina is a luxury touring vehicle that features a meticulously crafted, hand-built engine and a distinctive design aesthetic. The vehicle offers a visually appealing, street-ready performance that can navigate turns with the precision and stability typically associated with a vehicle in the M class. The Alpina represents an optimal selection for those seeking a luxury vehicle that is both dependable and fuel-efficient, particularly for those who prioritize high-performance automobiles.

Did BMW stop making Alpina?

BMW bought ALPINA in 2022, but the preexisting deal with the company won’t expire until the end of 2025, so there’s no realistic expectation of changes to ALPINA’s modus operandi before 2026. A report from Car and Driver suggests that BMW plans to push ALPINA deeper into high-end territory, targeting Mercedes, its Maybach sub-brand, Bentley, and Aston Martin. The report also suggests a potential return of the B7, possibly as a replacement for the next-generation Rolls-Royce Ghost to avoid sales cannibalization.

The new ALPINA B7 is expected to be based on the 7 Series LCI, which is expected to enter production in mid-2026. A G70-based ALPINA model is unlikely to be released before the end of 2026 or early 2027. It’s premature to know if the resurrected B7 will kill off the Ghost or if Rolls-Royce will make the next generation strictly electric. The Ghost is due for a refresh in 2029.

How do you tell if a BMW is an Alpina?

BMW ALPINAs are delivered with BMW emblems on the front and rear of the vehicle, documenting the trade name ‘BMW ALPINA’. However, counterfeit ALPINA emblems are not Original ALPINA Parts and are not offered as part of the product. ALPINA does not offer aftermarket kits, tuning chips, or modifications, and strongly advises against chip tuning, as it may negatively affect the engine’s life span. They do undertake modifications to existing BMWs and offer a wide range of Original ALPINA Parts and Accessories for many BMW models, including light-alloy wheels, suspensions, and aerodynamic packages.

What BMWS come in Alpina?

The history of ALPINA automobiles is based on various BMW series, including the E21, E30, E36, E46, E90/91/92/93, F30/31, G20/G21, F32/33, E24, E63/64, F12/13/06, E32, E38, E65/66, F01/02, G12, F25, G01/G02, and BMW Roadsters Z1, Z8 (E52), and Z4 (E85).

Is Alpina the same as AMG?

Is Alpina the same as AMG?

Alpine is a luxury car company that has a different philosophy than M lite, as it leans more towards high performance and luxury than the hardcore performance of the M division. Despite having more horsepower than their M counterparts, they are not as hard edge and handle as well. AMG to MB is two different things after MB bought them years ago. They were the highest performing MBs with upgraded interiors, suspensions, and hand-built engines. They competed directly with M but often had more powerful engines but didn’t handle as well until the last 5 to 10 years.

AMG has followed BMW’s M sports lines, with some AMGs like the E43 being regular MB engines with a hand-built engine. There are also AMG packages, such as rims and facias, which are less rare now and are more common in AMGs.

Are Alpina B7s rare?

The B7 is a unique and cool Alpina car that is rare compared to the M760i. However, tuning a well-optioned 750i and getting nice wheels can give 90 of the feeling of the B7. The B7 feels like a twin-turbo V12 monster, with a comfortable, under-stressed engine of only 90HP per liter. The high strung Alpina engine may seem like a time-bomb, but it is not a reality. The B7 feels more delicate and irreplaceable, making it a more enjoyable car to drive. However, the high-strung Alpina engine may cause concerns and prevent full enjoyment of the car.

What is so special about the Alpina BMW?

What is so special about the Alpina BMW?

Since 1983, Alpina has been recognized by the German Federal Ministry of Transport as an automobile manufacturer, allowing Alpina-built cars to be branded and registered as Alpina instead of BMW. These vehicles are hand-made, with a production process that involves fine tuning the engine, delivering it to the BMW plant, marrying the engine and body there, and bringing it back to Alpina for interior upgrades with Alpina’s specific components. Alpina also optimizes the transmission and installs steering wheel-mounted button shifters (Switch-Tronic) on most cars, with paddle shifters used on the B4 S Edition 99.

Distinctive features of Alpina vehicles include 20-spoke alloy wheels with hidden valves under the center cap, “Alpina Blue” or “Alpina Green” metallic exterior colors, and the finest materials used to fabricate the exclusive feel. Inside, the cars feature a typical blue and green pattern, thin, pinstriped style outside body decor set in gold or silver, and an Alpina wordmark at the bottom of the car’s front.

Compared to cars from BMW’s in-house performance subsidiary, BMW M, Alpina’s vehicles have more emphasis on Touring, higher torque, and their own Alpina-style shiftable ZF automatic transmissions. For example, the Alpina B5 offers a different take on performance, using a supercharged 4. 4L V8 engine, producing similar horsepower and greater torque at lower rpm.

What is BMW equivalent to AMG?

The M-Series AMG® represents a performance-tuned division of Mercedes-Benz, while the M-Series represents BMW’s performance line.

What is the difference between BMW X7 and Alpina?

What is the difference between BMW X7 and Alpina?

The ALPINA XB7 is essentially identical to the BMW X7 M60i in terms of headlights, grilles, front bumper, and the “ALPINA” badge. The XB7 only differentiates itself from the X7 with its classic wheels and quad exhausts protruding through the bumper. The XB7 now has the same iDrive 8 system as all new BMWs and the X7 LCI’s new dash design. The ALPINA XB7 features nicer materials and touch points inside, but the differences are marginal. The only major difference is that the XB7 doesn’t ditch the more traditional shift lever, while the BMW X7 switched to a little toggle switch.

The XB7 gets different colors in its digital gauge screen, but the graphics themselves are basically the same. There is some ALPINA colored stitching and some ALPINA-specific plaques, but that’s about it.

Is Alpina worth it?

The BMW Alpina B3 Touring is a unique estate car that offers exclusivity, long-distance comfort, and impressive performance. It may be a better fit for commuters who prefer the hardcore ride of BMW’s M performance cars. The B3 Touring conversion is understated, with subtle touches to distinguish it from a standard 3 Series, but the bodywork remains largely the same. This review compares the BMW Alpina B3 Touring against other performance-focused estate cars in terms of handling, interior quality, practicality, and running costs.

Is Alpina better than M?

While BMW Alpinas are produced on an annual basis, they are not as high-performance as M cars. However, they offer a more comfortable and exclusive driving experience. The BMW Alpina is distinguished by a number of distinctive features, including its signature 20-spoke light alloy wheels and unique bumper shapes and trim.

  • I’ve owned 2 B7’s and I am about ot purchase an XB7 (since the B7 is no longer available – mine os a 2019). Alpina creates fast elegant cars. You can do 120 and feel like you living room or put in sport mode and drive aggressively with 600 HP under you butt. 2019 was the last year the car looked sporty ad then cam the boxy look and 2023 took the cake on that one. Back to my point. Alpina is not supposed to be a sports car but a sports sedan at 5000 plus pounds. It all depends on what want. I test drove a M5 Competition back in 2019 before I purchased my second B7. Not the same car. anyway the best thing is we all have a choice as long as our wallets can handle it.

  • Never been a huge fan of Alpina but I do respect the work they put into these already high-end Beemers. This example looks beautiful, aggressive and stately all at the same time and that’s not easy to do. I’d love to see at least ONE different style of wheel on any Alpina though, that same tired old rim just doesn’t work

  • Beautiful, just can’t get my head around the dash? just plonked a rectangular screen in.. not even shaped or nothing In my opinion let’s this beautiful X7 Alpina down?. If the monitor screen was molded to fit the dash I would of Given it 11/10 the dash monitor just Looks slapped in.. for that reason I have to give it a miss…😢

  • A view from the UK. This ain’t been through a wind tunnel, i can tell you. It’s the boxiest tub i have ever seen. Don’t be fooled by the badge and the fancy paintwork. The guys recording this article have no idea of cars. You DO NOT rev a cold engine. Just look at the condensation coming out of the exhaust. you’ll get unequal heat expansion of different thickness metals a that leds to cracking. Gave up perusal after 1.44mins in.

  • Love this, makes my new X5 in light blue look so cheap lol 🙂 These are much much louder here in the southern USA…many people are doing full bolt on aftermarket upgrades and doubling the horsepower w/race gas or ethanol Ecu tuning, methane injection and an ice box with better cooling mods…w/larger turbo’s and hotter cams and upgraded fuel system…some have reportedly gotten these to 1,700hp on ethanol…and they are still daily driveable and reliable…straight piped exhaust systems are what some are doing also to these and to the M60i…they sound so loud and beast mode like that…don’t think they would ever allow any of that in the UK or europe unfortunately…you euro dudes have no idea what you’re missing with all your very restrictive and unfair laws and regulations and restrictions….

  • I picked one up after reserching like a mad man. This was the best car I drove and the tech package is great. Got a killer deal and waiting till the last day of the month. Crustted it even though I don’t think they were to happy with the deal I got lol, I was tuff but you need to be, The car market has changed gents…its a buyers market once again, Go for what you luv to drive,,,not what your cash flow says is safe!
