As Soon As I Place My First Happy Home Design Order?

IGN’s Hapy Home Paradise wiki guide provides information on unlocking vacation homes, earning Poki, and unlocking new features, items, and facilities in the paid DLC update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Happy Home Designer introduces a new currency called Poki, which can be used to purchase exclusive furniture. Players can earn Poki every time they design a Vacation Home and use it to purchase new furniture for their island.

To unlock Wardell’s catalog, players must purchase special Paradise Planning furniture multiple days in a row. This guide explains how to unlock these techniques and how many homes you need to fix up to get them all. To unlock Wardell’s catalog, players must first have purchased and installed the Happy Home Paradise expansion for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Niko will start requesting materials in the box upstairs, and donating the required items will unlock new recipes for counters and pillars. To start playing the Happy Home Paradise DLC content at any time, players can speak to Orville at the Dodo Airlines counter and select “I want to go to”.

In summary, IGN’s Happy Home Paradise DLC offers a comprehensive guide on designing vacation homes, earning Poki, and unlocking new features and techniques. Players can download and play the DLC for $25 or have a Nintendo Switch Online Expansion.

  • I didn’t get HHP until last May, mainly because my designing skills are nowhere as good as the YouTube AC community. But I did it out of curiosity and got a lot of enjoyment out of it. It does get tedious when dozens of villagers ask for identical themes (tropical island and garden/park in particular) and I wind up making those ones roommates to save a little work for myself. But it’s a great way to get to know the other villagers you don’t always see and there’s a good chance you’ll find a new villager to fall in love with that you want to villager hunt and bring them to your own island

  • Fun fact: I thought I hated designing until I got Happy Home Paradise 😂 Somehow it’s allowed me to enjoy the design process without the pressure of permanence, like I would get on my main island. I only just got the DLC this month. I avoided buying it for 2 years because I truly thought I wouldn’t enjoy it, as I found designing too stressful/not as enjoyable as other parts of the game. I’m having such a blast playing the DLC & it reminds me of when I first started playing ACNH. I’d highly recommend it to anyone, even if you don’t enjoy designing – because HHP totally changed my opinion on designing 🥳 P.s. The reason I finally bought the DLC is because it was on sale & I wanted easier access to glowing moss 😂 I also wanted the option to change the external look of villager houses. I can’t get over how much content there is in the DLC!

  • HHP is definitely worth it and this is coming from a non-creative type person, You don’t have to do much for the animals to be satisfied (basically just use the 3 specific items they want ). I try to do better in improving their homes and am very impressed by the players who are extremely creative. I purchased the dlc as soon as it became available and although I don’t go to the archipelago every day, it is still fun to go there, to interact with the animals who will make you laugh at their silly conversations, get some free turnips from Joan (Yay, Joan! Thought I was never going to see her again). The students are hilarious! Changing out the employees is fun as well as interacting with Wardell. The sunset is so beautiful,. I had gotten new DIY cards and recipes . This isn’t all. I encourage y’all to purchase the dlc if you haven’t. It’s well worth it and Bob’s Gang agrees!

  • Was looking for a recent review for the DLC and finally broke down and got it yesterday… Lol I like it so far, wish there was a scoring system like how it is in your own home! Why did they not implement that?! I’ve only completed two homes, or more like rooms, so far. Can’t wait to make that poki so I can buy furniture.

  • I’ve been really happy with it and thought it was a perfect way to do Animal Crossing DLC. It’s basically an entire spin-off game, but because it’s done as DLC it also enhances the main game as well. The only downside I could see here is if someone ONLY wanted HHP and didn’t want the mainline game for whatever reason.

  • Honestly, yes!! I dont even have the membershio thing rn, and i did have to pay for this dlc, but im happy i did. It added a lot to the normal gameplay; new items, decorating a store, hospital, restaurant, villager homes, and added new abilities to decorate and change our original island homes which ive personally always wanted to do. I do love designing the homes, and it also added cute new npc characters. I love the island for the happy home paradise, and it even allows us to deisgn vacation homes for our original islanders too. So overall i loved the layout of everything and all that it added. It got me more excited to play animal crossing again and it was a great addition to the game. I personally dont have any complaints. I feel a lot happier playing the game with this addition.

  • Thank you for the article, I’m a huge ACNH fan and played a lot of it. I took a long break from it, and been meaning to get back into it. I’ve been back and forth about getting the dlc, ever since it came out. Your article answered like all the questions I had about it, I think I’m going to get it now. Lol

  • I bought it day one and yeah it’s totally worth it just to add more gameplay if you get burnt out by daily check ins, it adds more to do and the items it added are really awesome! I really like that if I don’t want to finish designing a house I can check out and come back to finish the house later, and if you’re close enough to purchase but don’t have enough poki with wardell he’ll let you buy it and pay him back over time!

  • Bob’s gang here, I bought the dlc a few months ago and it was probably the best purchase I made at that time. Last winter I spent many nights designing rooms with Harv’s photo studio – the dlc has been a much welcomed upgrade from that 😂 if you love designing interior & exterior, absolutely worth it

  • Unpopular opinion but the DLC really wasn’t for me, I’m not a designer which is probably why I prefer new leaf. I have the DLC just so I can change my villagers houses. Having that feature locked behind the DLC was agonising for me, I think I enjoyed it less because I just wanted that feature for my main island. If you like the sims or dollhouse style games you’ll enjoy the DLC.

  • I LOVED Happy Home Designer, I got it on release day back in 2015. I was really excited when this DLC was announced because I had been thinking about how I missed popping into HHD to design a home, so getting it again was perfect. Sometimes I wish the villagers gave us a design budget, but it’s probably better this way.

  • You said it perfectly. If you enjoy designing (which is my FAVORITE part of the game) then Happy Home Paradise is the perfect thing for you. If you’re not really interested in in-depth designing with lots of expanded features, then you can easily pass on HHP and be perfectly satisfied with the base game.

  • I dunno how anyone has the patience to play without happy homes! It would’ve taken forrrrever to unlock all the items otherwise and I really wanted to play ac because of the creative aspect, building my island, hard to do without access to all the stuff. There’s only so much fishing and bug hunting one can do!

  • I couldn’t careless about Happy home paradise but i want to complete my island and i’ll get Happy home to renovate villager homes to match my island and add things that should have been in the base game like divider walls and things like that. I’m still pissed off about them finally giving us white sands and cliffs and then finding out it’s only on the happy home archipelagos…. Did it ever occur to them that some of us might want a bit more tropical options for our island?

  • I think I’m the only one who doesn’t enjoy HHP. I used it to get items faster and to unlock features on my main island. Once I unlocked everything I never went back. I love designing too, I have a sims website where I build, and I also love designing my island, so it’s not that. I don’t know why I just don’t like HHP.

  • I took a long (like.. long :’D) break from ACNH, and just got back… I think I’ll take it easy for a little while now, but in the future I definitely see myself buying Happy Home Paradise! I had seen the trailer and though it was lovely, I was still a bit on the fence…your article was the final push / encouragement I needed. Thanks for that! ^^

  • Honestly the extra beach DIY bottle & recipe DIY dailies were what sold my partner on getting the DLC alone, with or without the customization bits. That plus being able to put his favourite starter villager Cherry into her actual house! I personally really like that I can try and make a “living pokédex” of villagers using the island. As long as I’ve made a house for them I can always see them walking around and interacting with things in the game, to see if I want to bring them to my main island or get their amiibo. Or I can move out old villagers I really like and not feel that bad about it since I can visit them again whenever I want! And Room Sketch is such a blessing for previewing builds with whatever customizations you want without having to go to the Airport or spend any bells til you’re set.

  • Thank you for this! There’s a 30% off sale on it, and less than halfway through your article, I already know it’s for me! I love designing and stuff! It’s crazy how much time I can spend on anything from character creation/playing around with outfits in article games, to trying to make neat homes in games that let you build like Fallout 4, or even something and simple as decorating tables and shelves with items I have in something like Morrowind. I just went ahead and got this!

  • Was really disappointed that there’s no scoring system whatsoever to grade your home designs. Whether you just open up the mandatory items and let them sit where they are in an empty room or if instead you spend an hour decorating every inch of space, the payout is exactly the same. The game already had a grading system for your house and island. Kind of baffles me that there’s not at least something in HHP. So the “game” aspect of the dlc isn’t much of a game. It’s just multiple Harv houses. That said it does offer more features and items to improve your island and complete your catalog.

  • Depends, honestly. It’s worth it, if you want to add more variety to you island itself, which is always a good thing. Not to mention, redecorating your neighbors homes, which comes with a pseudo price. Of you give them items after customizing their homes, they will not display it until you let them revert back to how THEY want it. Nonetheless, if you’re playing New Horizons, I would say yes, if you want to complete the catalog. I have been playing since Feb 2021 and I’m still finding new furniture that not in either my home catalog or Wardell’s which blew my mind. If I were to make a guess, based off of what X-ing website has said, some villagers will have different items to use in their home, which could potentially be added to Wardell’s catalog or even your D.I.Y. list… So if you’re looking to expand your creativity, heck yeah!… but get it with the Expansion Pack Plus. New Horizons is not the only game that has DLC with the pack.

  • Bob’s gang. The two things I really hate about HHP is the inability for things to be flush (partition walls, counters, etc…) and line up (the houses will not be lined up to the entrance area). Otherwise I really liked HHP. However now that I’ve unlocked everything the only reason I ever use it is to get the free turnips from Joan on Mondays. I have the online pass so I didn’t pay for it.

  • Bob’s Gang!! I just recently got a Nintendo Switch (A gift from a friend who had a spare Switch he didn’t want anymore.) and he downloaded some games he knew I’d like, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I’m going to be getting Animal Crossing: Happy Home Paradise later this week. I love the designing feature in Animal Crossing, and I’m excited to design vacation homes for the animals, and make facilities, and unlock stuff.

  • I have it.. ITS SO MUCH FUN! It comes with so many good things like you can trade poki for bells, which (poki is easy to get) and once you complete it, which you can also still build more houses after you complete it, you can decorate your villagers houses on your island and you can also polish stuff you can also go to the hospitals every Monday and get turnips from Daisy Mae’s mom, grandmother I’m not really sure what her name is but yeah, and she’ll give you a free turnips.

  • Hmmm… worth it in that I wanna remove ill-fitting furniture gifts from villagers’ interiors. Honestly though, that shouldn’t be such a luxurious ability. From the game’s intial release I feel like HHa (Happy Home assistance) should’ve been included, with villagers asking for your decorating aid on Saturdays.

  • Definitely worth it because eventually get to decorate Villager ‘s home on your own island. I didn’t play HHD as ACNL burnt me out. I love the fact get to experiment with design themes and elements I spent along time designing exterior and interior combining aesthetics with functionality. Balloon gifts still drop 2.0 items but HHP allows earlier access to wide range of items. I came across Hokko Life which you can design furniture from scratch but the controls are clunky. I quit playing in order to do more RL creative projects.

  • If you want access to more clothing in the apparel shop, place 6 of the same type of mannequin in the shop (eg:full body). ‘Finish work’ then go to the shop & buy what you like. Then go back to Lottie & ask to remodel, then switch the 6 mannequins to all of another kind (Half body). ‘Finish work’ then go back to buy what you like. Repeat again with the 6 head mannequins for headwear. It takes me 5-10 mins to do, everyday. Taking me from 6 to 18 options of clothing/headwear. Once you’re set up, you only need to actually remodel 2 times per day. Leave the last set of mannequins out after buying & they automatically refresh items the following day.

  • 1. If you have already built a vacation home for a client and would like to move locations, you still can. It’ll make a complete copy of the interior and transport it to the new island of your choice. 2. You can actually get exclusive clothes from your island’s apparel shop around DJ KK festivals (after you complete the main storyline). 3. If you visit your hospital and ask to see the doctor you can get some pretty cute clothing accessories for your character, such as the leg cast. It’ll change based on what you let the doctor know about.

  • Speaking of the amiibo scanner, i have a little bag of a bunch of mini ACNH amiibo cards. This morning i wanted to pull out a random card, scan it, and then see who i got. And i got Lottie! I was laughing so hard! But i designed her house and on the first floor i did a tropical theme (well i mean your on a bunch of islands ShellBell goodness!) and then for the upstairs i did a floral theme. I named it “Lottie’s Flower Basket”! I think it turned out really cute!

  • Fun fact, you don’t actually have to add anything to a remodel to get those sweet poki. Also, don’t ignore the villagers who approach you in the beach! They’re asking for you “by name” which will give you a 30% bonus to both your payout and your designer level! In addition, if you spend more than 20 minutes on a build (like there’s any way to spend less?), have a decent number of roommates, and/or use every plot at least once, it will also increase your designer level. If you want a villager but don’t like their themes, you’ll eventually be able to tell them you have your own ideas for their home. Many VIP clients don’t have a theme, so you can go nuts with your creativity!

  • I have had problems with HHP. I downloaded the DLC on my personal Switch Lite. Then my son’s asked me to download it on their main Switch and now we find we can’t do it as the DLC should have been purchased on the main account… I’ve tried to message Nintendo but not heard anything yet. Any tips how to get around this would be much appreciated.

  • Hii! I loved the article, thank you for the tips! I do have a question tho since I didnt buy it yet but really want to after the articles I’ve watched. I have a problem with motivation sometimes or forget some things sometimes, what if I dont feel like working on one day or ignore it for a bit? Is that okay? Or will smth bad happen or are they gonna be mad? Im somehow overthinking all of this haha, would be nice if someone helps me with clarifying that it would be okay or not okay to ignore the work/other island for a bit. 🙂
