How long do Cooper Discoverer STT Pro tires last?

Are Cooper Discoverer STT Pro good in snow?
The Coopers tire is rated 4/5 for its performance in snow and ice due to its ability to slide without studs, spikes, or tire chains. It performs best in deep snow, either powder or wetter snow, as it can take advantage of scoops on thick lugs to get rid of snow. However, when the snow is compacted into a sheet of ice, it may slide more than an actual snow rated tire. The sipes help the tire remain moldable, making it a good choice for Canadian winters.
The Discoverers on pavement are surprisingly quiet for their aggressive tread design, possibly due to the irregular tread design. Some off-roaders may miss someone rolling by on the STT PROs, but once worn down, they become loud and people turn their heads. On a rainy day, the sipes and deep lugs provide sufficient water evacuation from underneath, which may be due to the Jeep’s speed limit. What is the max speed on the Cooper STT Pro?
The author received a set of 35×12. 50R15 tires, which were measured at 33 1/2 inches in the driveway at max load pressure. The tire sidewall shows 35 and the spec sheet says 34 1/2 inches, but the actual measurement is 33 1/2 inches. The load range is 113Q, which translates to 2, 535 pound max load per tire and 99 mph maximum speed. The tire weighs 67 pounds of rubber and has a nice and deep tread depth of 21/32 inch.

Really appreciate these reviews—been awfully helpful. Would you choose these tires over the Grabber X3 or KM3? What about a hybrid like the Mickey Thompson ATX P3? I run a heavy expedition equipped 4Runner towing an Offroad trailer here in TX. Lots of highway miles but when on trail we’re primarily dealing with sharp rock and gravel roads in NM, AZ, CO and UT. I have the General ATx but lost 2 back tires this last trip out to the Kofa Wilderness in AZ to rock punctures….so a little cool on them now. Thanks any help!
Does anyone have long term reviews on these tires? I was all set to pull the trigger on ordering a set for my Tacoma and then I was advised by my local tire shop these tires have been known to become hard and slick over time based on the rubber compound that Cooper uses. Not sure if he was trying to sell me a different tire or if he has bias against it. Can you confirm or dismiss this claim?
I really like these tires alot. I’m so torn between these and the Mickie Thompson Baja atzp3’s which i currently have on my rig and love as well. I wanted to change up my wheels look a bit and these tires really stuck out to me in my search. I’m leaning towards these though as my next tire but i want to be sure they’ll last as long as the MT’s did. I drive mostly on road and the Mickies have performed really well. I like what I’ve seen and heard in this review thus far and its bought me one step closer towards my decision making.
Hello, Could you please tell me if this tire requires a side mount on the rim? I don’t like the colored letters on the side so I have asked the workshop guy to mount the tire with the letters inside.Unfortunately they are a bit noisy than I expected and I’m afraid is due to the side mounting. I used to have a 1977 DODGE CUSTOM 100 2×4 P/U. It originally had a set of skins on it when I first bought it, I replaced them with a full set of COOPER DISCOVERY RADIAL SST 235/75R15 MUD GRIPS on it, And I’m glad I did. Because that Truck never got stuck in the Mud, Didn’t slide on ICE/SNOW, Went through WATER CROSSINGS 12 in deep: WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. I will definitely get another set for a future off roader if givin the chance, no problem.
Cooper doesn’t consider this tire to be a true mud tire, I think it competes more with Dick Cepek Extreme Country tire in my opinion, I would like to get your thoughts on other brands and styles of tire that this Cooper SST pro would compete against. I’m trying to find a good blend between an aggressive highbred and a mud tire for my new Ford F250 super duty with a gas engine. It has the stock Goodyear Wrangler Dura track tires on it. I think they look and perform OK for what they are, was wanting a little more aggressive look and a little more off-road performance but not wanting to go too far and lose road handling characteristics in wet weather or snow conditions. Not wanting to change rims, so they will be going on the original stock 18 x 8 black wheels, so I’m thinking tire size of a 305/70R18 = about 35×12.5 anyway I would like your input on this if possible, whether it’s a recommendation for a certain tire or company and or a tire or company that you would not recommend for my set up. I don’t do a lot or what I would consider any extreme of roading, but when time calls for four-wheel-drive to be needed, Whether that is going through a muddy corn/bean field,creek bottom, or hauling a truck load of wood up a steep washed out dirt/rock access road, I need to know the tires that I have on it are going to be enough to get the job done and not leave me stuck or stranded with a puncture/flat.

I plan on taking long trips to the locations where I’m going to wheel, so ride quality and noise are very important to me. I was considering the Yokohama Geolander X-AT, Nitto Ridge Grappler or the Mickey Thompson Baja ATZ P3. These Coopers look great, but I’m thinking those meaty chunks will cause comparitively more noise than my front runners. Given my requirements, what would you recommend? I’m open to your suggestions even if they don’t include the tires I’ve selected thus far. Thanks in advance!
Great article! 🫡 I’m on my 4th set of Cooper STT Pro muds on my 2014 Tacoma (35″). My truck is my daily driver and I off road/overland/camp/hunt once or twice a month. These tires have been getting pretty good mileage before swapping, but they really excel in the sand and snow over other mud terrains. They seem to be about the same as most other mud terrains in mud and on rocks. The only thing I’m doing differently with my next set is going to 37″ instead of 35″. 👍
