Are Teachers Employed By The Department Of Interior Schools During The Government Shutdown?

The House of Representatives is pushing for spending cuts, which President Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats oppose. The government shutdown has minimal or indirect effects on public school teachers, who are not paid during a shutdown. However, some members of Congress have reintroduced a bicameral bill in 2023 called the Federal Employee Civil Relief Act to allow federal employees to receive back pay.

During a government shutdown, most federal workers are divided into furloughed and excepted employees, with the only impact being cancellation of field work. To avoid a shutdown, Congress must agree on crucial spending legislation and pass a federal budget by September. Teachers are not federal or state employees, but their staff will continue to work during the shutdown.

Federal employees generally fall into three categories: those whose salaries are financed through means other than annual appropriations and those who work for agencies or programs not funded by the annual appropriations process. Teachers are state or district employees and have worked through budget crises.

A government shutdown affects various federal agencies, but even non-federal employees can still have an impact. Premiums accrue over the course of a shutdown and are taken out of employees’ first paycheck after the government reopens. Some critical services will continue as employees work. A government shutdown will directly impact Oregon’s approximately 28,500 federal workers, who on average make about $72,100 a year.

Is a school district a state or local government agency?

California’s K-12 schools are managed by independent government special districts, known as local education agencies or school districts. These districts are separate from cities but report to county Offices of Education. The state has final authority over school operations, with an appointed State Board of Education setting key policy and a Department of Education under an elected Superintendent of Public Instruction executing those policies.

The federal government also provides financial aid, particularly for low-income students, with mandates to follow specific rules. School districts are overseen by elected boards of trustees, who set policy and hire a superintendent. Boards typically have five to seven members.

Which workplace is run by a local government?

The responsibilities of local government encompass a wide range of services and facilities that are essential to the daily lives of citizens. These include the management of city utilities, libraries, fire departments, public swimming pools, parks, and law enforcement.

Are local government workers civil servants?

Civil servants are defined more narrowly than public sector workers, including police, teachers, NHS staff, armed forces, and local government officers. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) provides quarterly estimates of civil servants employed. Each body is organized into ‘departmental groups’, with the secretary of state having ultimate ministerial responsibility for the organization. This is done even when staff numbers are reported separately to their central Whitehall department, such as Ofsted being grouped with the Department for Education (DfE) departmental group.

Are teachers employees of local government?

Public school teachers are government employees, working under government direction and control. They receive salaries, benefits like healthcare and retirement plans, and must adhere to government regulations and ethical standards. Funding for public schools varies by location and jurisdiction, with local property taxes funding some schools, while the state provides most in others. Federal funds also play a role in financing public schools through grants and programs. Some notable public school systems in the United States include:

Public sector employees are employed at all levels of government, including federal, state, and local levels. They include law enforcement officers, fire fighters, teachers, school employees, and local government employees. Public employees are recruited, appointed, or chosen based on merit, following rigid hiring guidelines. Examples of public employers in Australia include the Australian government, the Australian National Police, the Australian Department of Education, and the Australian Department of Health.

Are local government employees considered government employees?

A government employee is someone who works for the U. S. government, the State of California, a local city or county, or any other public employer, such as a school district or transportation agency. They have different employment rights compared to non-government or private employers. Government employees are generally protected by the U. S. or California Constitution, such as freedom of speech. However, they are not protected by the First Amendment (Freedom of Speech) while working.

Government employees’ speech may be protected if they made it in their capacity as a citizen, while public employees do not. For example, government employees who write to a local newspaper, discuss politics with co-workers, or make public statements outside their official duties retain First Amendment protection because their activities could have been engaged in by people who do not work for the government.

Are schools local state or federal government?

The 10th Amendment to the Constitution established education as a state-run function, with each school district managed and funded by local communities and state governments. The quality and standards of education vary across states and towns, with both federal and state governments playing crucial roles in shaping the education system. The federal government has historically played a minor role in education, not issuing any educational policy until the 1960s. Both federal and state governments work together to ensure every child has the opportunity to learn.

What is the difference between a local government officer and a civil servant?

Local government officers are paid employees of councils, responsible for supporting the council and maintaining political neutrality. They set the council’s strategic direction and policy framework, while officers deliver council policies and ensure the day-to-day operation of the organization. Officers can be categorized into front-line and support staff, with front-line officers providing services to the public and support staff ensuring smooth operation of front-line services and the democratic process through administrative, finance, legal, communications, and IT support. They also have obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and Public Sector Equality Duty 2011.

Which state spends the most on education?

New York schools spend the most on K-12 education per pupil, followed by California, Alaska, Vermont, Florida, and North Dakota. Alaska receives the most federal funding per pupil, while North Dakota receives the second-most. Vermont and Kansas receive the second-lowest amounts per pupil in federal funding. Vermont’s state government spends the most per pupil of any state government to finance education. Hawaii supplies the second-most state funding, while Texas’ state government supplies the lowest amount of educational financing per pupil.

Educational funding influences spending, but states rarely spend 100% of their public school funding. Alaska receives the most federal funding per pupil, while North Dakota receives the second-most. Utah and Kansas receive the lowest amounts per pupil, while Vermont and Hawaii provide the most state funding. Overall, public education funding influences spending, but states rarely spend 100% of their funding.

Who runs public schools in the US?

Education in the United States is primarily a state and local responsibility, with an estimated $1. 15 trillion being spent on education for the 2012-2013 school year. The majority of funds will come from state, local, and private sources, with 92% coming from non-Federal sources, particularly at the elementary and secondary levels. The Federal contribution to elementary and secondary education is about 8%, including funds from the Department of Education (ED) and other Federal agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services’ Head Start program and the Department of Agriculture’s School Lunch program.

Despite its small share of total education funding, the ED works to maximize its impact by targeting funds where they can do the most good, reflecting the Federal role in education as an emergency response system.

  • I went to D.C. one year on vacation. There was trash in the pool in front of the capitol building. It had all drifted down to one end and me and a friend spent about 30 minutes picking bottles, snack food bags, cups, styrofoam and other assorted trash out of the water. There was no government shutdown and yet no workers were out cleaning up, or had been for some time apparently. I was actually quite disgusted with the way my capitol looked. When I was done a few people, out-of-towners like me came up and thanked me. They shouldn’t of had to.

  • 1:13 “Does contaminated food smell like freedom?” Right. As if food producers are doing anything differently during the government shutdown. Those who would cut corners on food safety to make a little extra were already doing it. Those who care about providing a quality product to their customers will continue to take the necessary steps to do just that.

  • Nice article. Silly how you ignore history. Government regulation doesn’t keep our food safe, but competition does? Tell that to the meat industry before the muckrakers wrote about how unsafe it was. How it was so unsafe that foreign countries weren’t buying meat from the US? How the government started regulating the industry because it wouldn’t regulate itself? There was competition there, but it didn’t seem to help keep food safe. How about how the banking industry before the recession at the end of Bush’s term happened because there was no government regulation to protect people from them? How they took advantage, got rich, and left tens of millions of people with a lot less than they started, and then expected the government to bail them out by holding all the customers of the banks still in business hostage? It is like the politicians who argued that certain parts of the civil rights bill protecting racial minorities; voting rights were no longer necessary, because “racism wasn’t a thing anymore.” Yet afterwords, those politicians took advantage for their own political benefit. Expecting companies to regulate themselves due to competition, or because of concerns for their reputation, without any government body overseeing their behavior, is a lovely dream that simply will never come to pass.

  • He’s wrong about grain farmers; those guys operate on razor-thin margins and have to compete globally to survive. I’m not saying we need subsidies in order to have grain farming, but I am saying that removal of subsidies would cause a massive shake-up in the farming industry, and 80% of grain farmers would be wiped out (if not more).

  • For everyone asking this: 1). The majority of government workers are deemed “essential” and continue to work despite not getting paid. I encourage you to think about what would happen if your boss required you to work without pay. 2). This has only really lasted a week or so because of the holidays. Most of these workers could survive a week or so. 3). The longer it goes, the more drastic the effects. People don’t feel it now, because all those invisible things keep getting done by “essential” workers, but how long could you go without pay (while working normally)? 4). Workers are being steadilly recalled and deemed “essential” because surprise surprise, these people actually do jobs that are needed.

  • If the Democrats are not careful. The part of the government that’s closed right now could turn into none government jobs and handed over and ran by private companies. President will find a loophole and find a way to fund without passing the budget. If anyone that will find a way he will. And there you have it less government. No one hurt, but Democrats office holders.

  • Anyone who has ever been in the working world knows full well that any big business, corporate entity or other such institution can lose its top end people for unbelievable amounts of time and the systems in it will run just fine or even get better. If you really want to hurt a big system take out the bottom end behind the scenes people, not the top. Knock out the custodial/maintenance/services departments for even one day at any establishment and everyone will notice.

  • I love how this cherry picks facts to support claims while ignoring others. Sure there are some people helping the nation parks, but others have vandalized the parks. It also ignores that many Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Sure the workers will get paid eventually, but the creditors don’t care. They will shaft you for every dollar you have. People lose their house or car? Not the creditors’ problem. As for the food inspection, this isn’t a universal truth. There are plenty of examples in the food industry of oversight from disease to microplastics. In the modern era, businesses have been forced to become highly utilitarian to keep propping up there stock values or to compete with big names. The net result is them choosing profit over people. A nightmare example is Walmart. They have a habit of moving into small communities, overtaking local businesses forcing them to close, and then leaving because they aren’t getting enough profit. Privatization really worked in that example, uh? Or, how about dollar stores undercutting markets in those same communities. The stores that sell food, that is generally considered healthy, are pushed out of the market. Those stores simply can’t compete with dollar stores. The net result is loss of healthy food in those markets.

  • Thanks John for showing the democrats are proclaiming “manufactured crisis”. once again proving that they are the party who are doing what they say the Republican side is doing. (Russian collusion anyone?) I feel like many of the people are catching on to them. They are hurting their own chances for 2020 now. Haha look 2020 John! P.S. I especially like how you show that the American people are picking up the trash that the low life people are creating. It’s all a tactic. Most decent AMERICANS Take pride in our beautiful country and do not throw their trash everywhere.

  • Government shut downs are what make me so glad that healthcare in the USA is private sector, imagine doctors and nurses and allied Healthcare workers having to work without being paid OR having a shortage of hospital and emergency staff??? And also the wait times would be longer or you would have to pay more in the long run….. government shutdowns hurt the people working those positions and also hurts the people needing those services.

  • Only government should be regulated. By regulated I mean mainly its power. while government gets smaller, yes people lose jobs temporarily …. but the economy will start expanding in unseen speeds, that they will soon get a job again. And the life of every citizen and businessman will be much better. No more infinite bureaucracy.

  • With all due respect, sir, your net worth is something like 4 million? I bet you don’t have to worry about groceries or mortgage. Most of these government employees are living close to the poverty line and check to check. You are cold hearted. Portraying federal workers as rude and cry babies is disgusting. Have you no decency? Also, suggesting the public will spontaneously step in out of the goodness of their hearts is as likely as a socialist suggests people are not greedy and lazy. I blame Democrats and Republicans, and that thug in the Oval Office. Your grade: C -. Try again. This time without the deluded idea that corporations left unchecked will always do the right thing.

  • Crop subsidies are wrong-headed. Also, as long as the farmer gets their check at SOME point, they’re untouched by this delay. They plan year-to-year. They live on no income most of the year, and get a couple BIG checks after harvest (or after the gummint cuts them their subsidy check (or props up the prices they get)).

  • To this article, I would add a reference to how the VA and other Gov’t Departments are Usually repulsive bosses toward their workers. And how in any industry, private volunteers Need to be outstanding bosses or else workers will quit and find a different boss to work with and for, often as Self-Employers. I know someone personally who works for VA but also owns a private practice. He loves his private practice but hates working for the VA. Plus I know someone else personally who’s a hair stylist who forfeited 2 or 3 different private sector bosses because they were all scumbags towards her. But those are only examples from my own personal life.

  • The TSA is a joke not even worthy of capital letters. Those jobs were done by private contractors prior to 9 11 and people still get through with guns and knives and the bid cutters that were used during 9 11 were not prohibited. And the 80% that are working are lucky and lyrically only half of those are needed. The ATC are essential and they should be paid. Some core inspector nah.

  • Agree that the TSA should be abolished. Somewhat disagree on food inspections. Chipotle has to be hyper-vigilant about cleanliness because they’re a national and well-recognized chain: a few cases of contamination at one location can lead to a media hit piece which causes loss of business across the country. Your local hole-in-the-wall Chinese place has very different incentives. They do the very minimum required to pass health inspector exams — if that. Ever get food poisoning while traveling abroad? Most of the world has lax standards for food safety, and the private sector has apparently found that hiding problems is cheaper than fixing them.

  • I’m in favor of a permanent “shutdown”. Eliminate as many positions as possible and then bring back limited funding for critical shared infrastructure like air traffic control. So much hype in the media about the shutdown like it’s the end of the world… yet I go about my daily business unfazed. Seems like a good deal to me.

  • I see what you’re saying, but this is not really a government “shut down”; that term is a misnomer. Most government activity occurs at the state and local level, and they’re still in operation. Even most of the federal government is still doing their work every day. The president refusing to meet with Congress is a minor snag, not much of a “shut down” at all.

  • I know you TSA people are just doing your job. Just understand that there is nothing civil about respectable people having to get assaulted in the name of safety. It was assault until congress enacted law that says when done by TSA that it doesn’t count as assault. We might thank you in person but inside we’re reeling when you touch us. Have a nice day =)

  • Fake Gerardo is right about his examples but you can pretty much make these anecdotal arguments about anything. As with anything, whatever “evidence” one brings forward “proves” that person’s argument. Seldom does entertainment masked as political journalism like this meet basic scrutiny. As just one example, why not discuss the private companies where this trillion in debt goes and if, overall, they’re serving in the best interest of our country? So lazy, so myopic, such an irresponsible echo chamber.

  • *sorry so long OF EXPONENTIAL GROWTH OF NEED FOR RESOURCES AND LABOR. (Thats us.) “but they will get paid” is libertarian dog-whistling to externalities. heres the most simple form of why capitalist economics are NOT a science (neither are marxist)(rendering it completely irrational). In the last half of the 19th century, mathematicians and economists researched the application of mathematical (statistical; not the 1010 variety, the 5-6000 kind you take in college) modeling strategies to allow for infinite growth. They ran into problems with the math. Science has basically moved forward by inventing math. The scientist(s) reach a position where nothing they’re finding in invented math fits their observations (of results and studies, so net yet having concluded anything because of said conflict) so because they cant model anything to inter and extrapolate conclusions about the past and future, they have to put the chalk to the board as it were. If they do not succeed in discovering something we don’t know already then their hypothesis has been disproved. Not the end of the world, but thats the actual nuts and bolts of scientific discoveries in the sense of Laws and Principle and Theories. In interestingly the only real Laws we have arent even in Math (math has theorems and rules (like 6 total)), theyre in thermodynamics (expressed simply as ∆E= q + w or the change in energy (loss or gain) is equal to change in heat plus the work done): The First Law of Biology: all living organisms obey the laws of thermodynamics.

  • It’s amazing to me that anyone still finds Stossel persuasive. He is a broken record who, ironically, has a “one size fits all” solution: reduce government and denigrate the service of public sector employees. This article is a prime example of so many of the same tired canards about how the private sector must necessarily do everything better (libertarian magic dust) and that government is unaccountable (it’s much easier to remove a public official from office than eject the CEO of a transnational corporation).

  • This is so remarkably dumb. John, if your employer said you would get your paycheck in “maybe months to years,” you would quit. I’ll tell you what isn’t due in months to years, their bills. You think the trash problem in parks is solved forever because a few hundred people for a few weeks pick up 1/50th of the trash that needs it? Really? Half of the workers that are not getting paid are STILL WORKING, that is precisely why everything is fine. Yes, private contractors work super well in law enforcement… it’s not like there are any other variables to line times. Let’s privatize Amtrak too! That went well in Britain! Each company can own their own trains and all just share happily ever after. The only reason that the private tsa equivalent does better is due to a lack of job security. Introduce this into the TSA, and the same process will occur. Long lines happen when Congress diverts 30% of TSA funding. Do you know who decided to privatize these airports, THE TSA, without needing the approval of the airport, or government.

  • Whenever Stossel puts away the blonde wig and starts speaking English you know some truth bombs are about to be dropped!! And whenever he puts on the blonde wig, shaves that moustache and starts speaking Spanish you know some truth bombs are about to be dropped. Either way John’s dropping truth bombs!

  • Scam……..Yeah ok john i guess air traffic control isn’t important either.??? Just thought id mention that little insignificant. Occupation. Last. People in the world i want to be distracted. While at work. Because there worryed about being put in the street.because they can’t meet there bills. What a bunch of b.s. you really need to hang it up John. ?

  • Well government is necessary for the climate! If we didn’t have grain subsidies we wouldn’t have ethanol diluted gasoline! No one is going to pay more for less efficient fuel, it takes government subsidies to make more expensive less efficient fuel seem like its actually cheap! Heck, that goes for health care too! And government has finally made poverty a viable career options, what would happen to the people who depend on that?

  • I’m a federal employee who’s not working. Fortunately, I’m not living paycheck to paycheck. (I’m actually a ten month to full year seasonal, and look forward to my time off with no pay.) Employees who don’t have savings to last at least a month only have themselves to blame. On the other hand, we’re still six months behind on last years pre-refund tax examinations. But then again, people shouldn’t get a refund if they didn’t pay anything in. It’s not my fault, or Bill Gates or Zuckerberg’s, that you can’t support the children you chose to have.

  • I just feel sorry for the government workers though. I mean if it does continue much longer, it could affect our economy. Even if they eventually get paid, I’m kind of worried about what will happen in the meantime.. Makes me feel very uneasy as this goes on. I mean, if you lose your job without warning, the bills still come. It makes me feel sorry for them.

  • When I was in school, math, science, English and history were the subjects that mattered to me. I never would have thought skin color or gender ideology would matter to a child like me. To this day I don’t see color or gender when forming an opinion about someone. Their character and action are what makes me decide what my opinion about any particular person turns out to be.

  • I’m a “person of colour” and even I feel awkward when teachers constantly bring up race in school, the class already gets along and this constant reminder that we matter and that we have less privelidge just divides us and makes race a constant topic in our minds. After all we’re in school can’t we just learn and be treated fairly it’s 2023

  • This young fella is 100% Spot On!!! 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻! The World has indeed, Gone Mad! We are all HUMAN BEINGS! That is our Uniting factor! We are all in this together, people! No matter what shade, size, shape, ethnic origin, standing, gender, education, financial standing, occupation, religion, marital status, political views, age, sexual orientation (& whatever else I’ve missed) … WHO CARES??! Because at the end of the day, we are all just PEOPLE. It takes a whole lot of variety across human beings, all over the planet, to make the world go round ❤

  • “I’ve never noticed race more. It’s become the first thing I notice when I meet someone, which has never before been the case.” This quote hit me so hard because I’ve noticed the exact same thing in my life. I was raised to treat everyone equally and throughout my childhood and adolescence nobody ever noticed or cared about colour, we were all just people and we were all the same. But ever since these activist movements have taken over mainstream society I cannot help but IMMEDIATELY notice the differences between myself and others. I feel like all these movements have accomplished is creating more division and tension between people than ever before, and society is far worse off for it. Mad respect to this kid for standing up for himself.

  • Im from Ireland. When I was in school (2016 specifically) our ‘religion’ teacher came in and threw on a article of one of Trump’s speeches and would pause every few seconds to explain why what he was saying was evil or racist or bad. At the time I really didn’t care and, like many in the class, just sat there and blankly stared at the wall behind him. If I was back there now, I would have reported his poor ‘teaching’ to the principle…

  • This kid has a much stronger spine than those suits in Capitol Hill who call themselves leaders. He has more courage than all the woke media/Hollywood/corporate houses who claim to be worth trillions of dollars. He has more integrity than today’s teacher who claims to be shaping young minds…. He is already a leader who remains to be elected by people… God bless you young man, God bless you…

  • What they don’t realize is, Jesus Christ Himself says, “don’t worry they hated me before they hated you” they hate us because we’re not of the world (satanists) we’re of God. All these that push hate are aligning their selves with the Evil one (satan) and Most Certainly will be judged by Almighty God for their wicked hearts (souls)

  • I went to a school with mostly black students. When i was little i didnt want to be white anymore because i wanted to be “part of the club.” What i really wanted was to be close with people. there were many friend groups (all black) who treated each other as brothers and sisters. i wanted to have friends like that but any time i tried to become friends with kids who seemed nice, i would immediately be addressed by the color of my skin (white girl) and was even told once that i was “too white” by someone i thought was my friend. I dont want to pick a side, i just want everyone to see each person as they are: some random shade of orange

  • I was a teacher in the public schools for thirty years. This young man is right. I don’t see a good future for public education. Parents who have the means will send their kids to private schools or homeschool their children. I can’t blame them–parents want what’s best for their kids, and many of our public schools are not good places now. When I started in education, and for most of my career, the Golden Rule was: KEEP YOUR PERSONAL LIFE AND YOUR RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL BELIEFS OUT OF THE CLASSROOM. In the last five years of my career, 2015-2020, we received daily emails warning teachers NOT to push their personal beliefs or talk about their private lives in the classroom, and these same teachers would answer with “It’s my free speech right.” We older teachers were horrified. A generation of teachers are now retiring from the classroom, and the younger generation of “activist” teachers are going to destroy public education. The classroom is NOT your therapy space. The classroom is NOT your political platform. You’re supposed to teach students HOW to think, not WHAT to think.

  • What a speech. I dont care who prepared it, if its him or his parents. But this was epic and was really required to be read out loud. Plus he saying he’s leaving the school sends a really strong message that schools like these are now responsible for destroying the development of children, development which is something thats a primary function of schools

  • This was absolutely devastating, a quite brilliant speech by this young man, the look on the woke woman’s face at the end of this article was priceless. If this young man went into politics, he’d get my vote & I bet I wouldn’t be the only one either. This young man has an extremely bright future in front of him, his parents must be bursting with pride.

  • The sad thing about this is that the school board doesn’t care what he thinks. They don’t care what anyone thinks. They think they are right and they listen to no one that has an opposing view. They just say, “I’m sorry you feel that way.” They are like programmed robots who spew this garbage to our kids and think it’s wonderful.

  • When I was in school in the 90s, we were encouraged to share our own personal opinions and to be able to hear other opinions in order to grow – it’s a scary world when not only are children being told the opposite but their very teachers are afraid to speak up. I would’ve taken my children out of that school so quickly. Thankfully my kids are in a school with rational thinkers

  • I wonder what the board’s reaction to that. There is a hope with new generations. I am Asian but I am so proud of you, son. You should never back down because of political agendas like this forced upon you. School shouldn’t force political views, but to educate young ones and teach morality. They failed as teachers. They failed as the peer human beings. No matter the skin colors, everyone is equal in rights. Stop saying that you guys promote inclusivity while you express exclusivity and segregation.

  • In high school, I had an English teacher that was extremely liberal while I am conservative. When doing homework assignments I used to write about my views, which starkly opposed hers. During class discussions, and one-on-one conversations with her I’d still often express views that opposed her own, especially on religion (I a Christian, she an atheist.) She was a wonderful woman and constantly encouraged me to keep learning and writing the way I did. She gave me excellent scores to reflect my hard work. She was one of the only teachers that didn’t treat me like trash because of my background. I genuinely feel incredibly sorry for the growing number of young students nowadays who do not have teachers like her, and are effectively being told to “SHUT UP.” OPPOSING VIEWS ARE VITAL TO HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS. Teachers with opposing views are the most vital resource of education we have in our society. She deserved more as a teacher, and these closed-minded modern educators are an absolute embarrassment.

  • When my niece (white, blonde, blue eyes) started kindergarten (pre school I think it’s called in America), she made a friend called Flo. She talked about Flo all the time, what they’d done that day, the games they played, how fantastic Flo was etc. At the end of the year, she invited me to her final day celebration. I met Flo for the first time. She was a seeet little girl. And she was black. My niece had never mentioned that … because it didn’t matter. It wasn’t important to her. Flo was just her wonderful friend. Fast forward 10 years and now it does matter. My niece is now tole to respect and appreciate that Flo is different. But she never thought she was. Flo didn’t think she was different, and neither did any of the other 5 year olds. But they all, including Flo, are now being told that she is. If we all just let children accept each other (without the interference of adults, both at home and at school), by the time they’re adults, this conversation will be unnecessary

  • I agree with everything he’s saying besides him using the whole “socialism is better than a democracy” as a point to rile up the crowd. Socialism is an economic philosophy and even lends itself straight to democracy. If the kid were to compare socialism to capitalism, that’d make more since and be a more valid argument. A democracy is a political system where people hold the majority of power in deciding laws, leadership, and policies. Meaning “your vote matters”, which is hardly even the case anymore because of the circus that is legislature, house of representatives, gerrymandering, and lobbying but i digress. Socialism isn’t even a danger or an afront to democracy. Like i said, the ultimate form of democracy includes socialism and one could argue that democracy is ultimately socialist since it gives the majority of power to the people. There are people that say things like “I’m a Democratic socialist” but that’s totally redundant since they both essentially entail the same ideologies. Like i said, i agree with all the points he’s saying, but to use that as a comparison isn’t even accurate. Democracy has been dead for a long time, and I’ve noticed more and more people are saying “we’re a republic” as if we’ve never been a democracy. That’s also stupid. In all honesty, the truth is that we’ve been an oligarchy for decades.

  • Something i’ve noticed in high school (im still in highschool, a juinor) is that all non fictions articles that are assigned by the district relate to sexism and/or racism in some form of way. The way the sexism and racism is taught is against white males. For example the last 2 articles we’ve read mentioned sexism even though it wasn’t related at all. The author just added it to add it then added some one sided point to back it up. On the first article the example the author used was a male bullying a female. Never in school do you read about sexism as a female bullying a male. Never in school do you read about racism as a black/hispanic/etc bullying a white.

  • As a combat veteran sometimes it’s tough meeting ungrateful person after person, as well as seeing all the blatant hate for our country and our citizens because of the color of their skin makes you feel kind of angry. I say that to say I am extremely proud of this young man ! Seriously what a stud his parents should be proud! Common sense, and good morals are a lot stronger than people think. The Democrats would never be able to push any of their many garbage agendas if it wasn’t for the guaranteed victim class in each group. There will always be people that take help for the wrong reasons from the government, and that will always outnumbered the amount of people who are allowed to access that help for legitimate reasons. I hope many more like this young man stand up and speak out because they are the real bosses because they are the future.

  • I’m in grade 10, in a Canadian public school. This has inspired me to continue to spread the truth amongst my peers about everything that we’ve been lied to about by our school. This guy has the guts to take it a step further and call them out on their BS at a board meeting. He’s now inspired me to hopefully do the same, one day. God bless him and his family. Edit 1: The truth is being spread among my friends faster than ever before. The amount of people in my school who are against this BS is higher than I expected (something I didn’t realize), and very refreshing.

  • As I listened to this kid, the more I realized that just because his past generations have been racist to other races doesn’t mean that the school should use “equality” to cover up their actual plan. I support this kid. No matter what happened in the past, the past mistakes could be fixed by kids like him. This kid deserves a medal.

  • It’s easier to create a problem than it is to fix one. You pit the groups against each other instead of fixing it. That’s what happened with every place the British empire allowed freedom. They gave them independence but also gave it to the other half of the group. Thus causing civil war. Meanwhile they were so new as a government they depended on the UK for everything. Divide and rule.

  • This young man is a leader already. You cannot claim equality if you take from one to give to another. It is simple algebra. A balanced equation is balanced, not lopsided. When I see young people like this, it gives me hope for the future. If you cannot say what he did and be heard equally, you do not live in a free country.

  • It all comes down to a clear statement “EVERYBODY IS EQUAL”. You don’t need to list or put PEOPLE into multiple catagories. The more categories you create the more had feeling, animosity and inequality you cause. Anyone can be offended by anything. We’re all human, but it doesn’t always have to be as big an issue as some make it out to be. Think positive and treat “EVERYONE” in a way that you would want to be treated yourself. It’s simple.

  • This young man deserves an award or something. For any school saying that kind of garbage. ALL LIVES MATTER. End of story. As for that teacher that loves socialism, For God’s sake teach leave your views and beliefs out of the classroom. They have no business there. All this woke bullshit when is it going to stop. Come parents it’s time to wake up.

  • People agree with him, but still mention their race. Can’t you say “as an American, Italian, Puertorican, etc, I agree” or just “I agree”? See I didn’t mention my race before commenting. That’s how it’s done, if you agree. No offense, just giving an example. P. S. my race is Human, though I think Orcs are cooler😂

  • Poor poor kids. When I went to school in the 70’s and 80’s, NOBODY ever talked about racism the way that people are today and creating damaging stigmas that these kids will have to live with, probably for the rest of their lives. Back then, that, these sort of things just did not exist, and we all got along great. God I’m glad I’m not a student today, of any race, creed, or color; and none of which things matter (but that WE ALL GET ALONG). Shame on us for allowing this to Creep its way into society

  • This has been a thing for over 25 years. As an example of a personal experience that I had in 7th grade: my history teacher asked the class to write an African folklore story which was to be graded. I wrote a story about some boys in Egypt that encountered a haunted tomb. She gave me an F stating that it wasn’t African. I argued that Africa is a continent and not a country or a group of people but she wanted something about black people… That being said, I’m glad this boy is standing up for what he sees as truth and telling the faculty his perspective because the truth is that so many people will just accept something and comply and not question on the pretense that they must in order to survive in this world. Well done young man Edit: as this was a long time ago, it’s possible that she was an English teacher.

  • What a outstanding young man this is! His Mother and Father must be so proud of him! That was a well thought out, intelligent, straight to the point speech. Communists have pulled out all the stops and are more bold than ever. This kid is an example of how some are not going to just sit back when they spill out their poison to the schools!

  • “They started listing races…” Let me stop you right there! The mere fact they listed “races” is in itself racism. If they believe there are races like “Latino, African, Asian, Black, White, Purple, European, American, Indian, Australian…” then they are saying that there IS a difference between these people at their core. I.E, it’s not because they are individuals, it’s because their genetics belong to a demographic on the planet that they are “at a disadvantage”. I am of the belief that every human being is nothing more and nothing less than a human being. And it’s the individual strengths and weaknesses that determine how successful those people can be. I am then also of the belief that, if you are gullible enough to fall under the trap of culture, politics, religion or populism, then you deserve what you get until you break free of those cults. Everyone should make up their own damn minds about what is just, right, good, bad, honest and true. There is no “i am part of XYZ so therefore i AM XYZ”. There are so many ideologies, so many different viewpoints, so many alternate realities out there that no two people on this planet should be the same, statistically speaking. There are thousands of variables at play. And each variable has a whole range of values. Even if each variable only had a true or false, on or off, 1 or 0 possibility. 2^1000 is still a number that by FAR exceeds the human population of earth. If you for one second start believing that “you vote X therefore you are X, exact copies of all others that vote X” then you are delusional and needs to be corrected.

  • Wow! What an amazing young man, incredibly brave too. He’s so right in everything he said. My son attends university here in London and on the first day of Fresher’s week, they had stalls set up for every race as well as political stand and LGBTQ, yet nothing for a young white male or female. He felt that and that angered me. What is going on? My praise to both him and his parents and I wish him every success moving forward 🙏✨

  • You go Brad!!! You are incredibly smart and your parents should be so proud of you. Everything you have just said is everything I want to say whenever race or privilege is brought up. Don’t worry about having to leave your high school, they are obviously not evolved enough to deserve bright, logical students such as yourself. Lets hope you gave them bucket loads of food for thought. Take it easy and be Happy!! 😀

  • “They just stay silent and adjust their school work to reflect an acceptable opinion to secure a good grade” I live in cali and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done this. In Cali(at least where I’m from)there is an apparent agenda that they are trying to push in school systems, from junior high to college. I could literally write so much about everything I’ve experienced, the point is it’s wrong, schools are for learning not for having political views enforced.

  • One of the most inspirational, disturbing and interesting speeches that I’ve heard, regardless of his age. I hope the administrators of his school district took some notes, but this kid’s message obviously goes beyond his specific school. Best of luck to him, and we’ll see where we stand with diversity, equity and inclusion/wokism/CRT in 5, 10 and 15 years. I’m willing to bet that the truth rings louder than the lies.

  • Can’t we just go back to letting kids enjoy their innocence and their youth. Real life is gonna be hard enough no matter what you try and do. Because just like night and day you will always have opposites and that means good and bad. Kids were throwing racism out the window before all of this. But divide and conquer is the new agenda.
