Looking good! I went through many red parts on my 87 always replacing them with newer looking ones until 2001 when I found a pretty mint black 90 interior. It was only missing a couple of the armrest plugs and one console cover, so those got dyed. I used fresh vinyl to cover the dash pad and the console lid. I might need to get those LMR armrest pads soon though. Great job!

J-Mac you are an excellent host, but I gotta be honest I bought 12 cans of the 90-93 black SEM paint from you guys and changed my interior from “porno-red” to black and the red is quickly starting to show its ugly face again. I know the prep was done very, very well and I know the paint is a good quality product, but I would recommend against using paints or dyes to change one’s interior color. Advice to others: Just buy OEM plastics in your preferred color when applicable. Thx

You’re better off going to a paint store and looking at paint chips to match the color. I painted the console with the smoke gray and the shade wasn’t even close…way lighter. You’d have to paint the entire dash and armrest to get this to work just due to the aging and UV damage of the existing interior color.
i know this is an old article, but another SEM paint job done incorrectly. if you read the instructions it clearly states to apply the sand-free first then apply color without letting the sand free dry. this process chemically bonds the paint to the substrate. don’t know why every interior paint article leaves this out.
Amazing, was trying to figure out a way to get new speaker grills for my 91 vert. Since they no longer make them and a friend suggested I just paint my original ones. I followed the instructions like I have with so many other Late model resto articles and nothing short of excellent. I just purchased your black 79-86 console dash pad a few days ago along with a can of your Canyon Red spray paint. Due to the black color of the dash pad, should there be a primer type base paint before spray painting it with the Canyon Red?
