  • I still have the original Philips L Prize light bulb with the metal base. The very first generation one. The one that has a weird yellow coating on the outside that really looks like a bug light. That thing was expensive too! It was close to $40.00 back in 2012. It has gotten run about 15 hours a day every day since 2012 and still works. A year later we picked up that version you are demonstrating and it lasted about 2 years being the porch light. Its really crazy how LED light bulbs have dropped in cost. Those really thick plastic bags are supposed to be reused. 😀

  • I have one of those earlier remote phosphor bulbs you mentioned with 3 plastic covers that come off. Blew my mind when i found our how white led’s were made, i had no idea they don’t actually exist, we just use phosphor conversion. I hear there are some that work with violet leds too, to get high CRI for professional photography and whatnot.

  • Remember do NOT buy low CRI 2700K lights. They are WAY too yellow to the point it goes towards orange. If you want warm white. Get a higher CRI version. Same with low CRI daylights. They are a bit bluer than the higher FRI ones. Also when you get light bulbs always look at the color temperature of the old CFL or LED bulb. And repeat, Do NOT buy low quality warm white LEDs. They have relatively low CRI and make everything pretty much look yellow. The higher quality warm white LEDs should not work as yellow. And the high quality daylight bulbs should not look as blue.
