In 1577, Teresa of Ávila, a Carmelite nun in Spain, was asked by her superiors to write a spiritual guide for her Carmelite sisters. Her manuscript, The Interior Castle or The Mansions, was first translated into English by E. Allison Peers. This modern update of the book increases access to Teresa’s teachings by applying modern devices for comprehension. In 1852, Rev. John Dalton completed one of the first English translations of the book.
The book describes the seven stages of union with God using everyday language to explain difficult theological concepts. It is a cornerstone book on mystical theology and is as inspirational and enlightening today as it was when it was first written. The Benedictines of Stanbrook express their gratitude to the Very Rev. Benedict Zimmerman for having kindly revised the book.
St. Teresa of Avila’s books are integral parts of Spanish Renaissance literature, Christian mysticism, and Christian meditation practices. The most popular translation is the Mirabai Starr translation, but the language may be skewed from its Catholic roots. The definitive edition of St. Teresa of Avila’s The Interior Castle, translated by E. Allison Peers, is available from Waterstones and includes a fresh spiritual commentary by Dennis Billy, C.Ss.R. The new edition is the only edition that includes the original text and a new spiritual commentary by Kieran Kavanaugh, O.C.D.

God bless. Buy it before we won’t be able to, should God forbid the socialists take over and do away with these spiritual treasures

I’m not saying to stop trying, but you must admit this doesn’t make sense.

She, Saint Teresa would have been offended to have a translation to all spiritual seeks outside the Catholic spirituality for she believed there was no salvation outside Catholic Church . She died saying she had been a faithful daughter of Catholic Church so to work and promote a “loose” translation is a big betrayal to such a great Catholic Saint 😢
