@8:00 & @18:04 the seasonal expansion and contraction of large cross grain panels (seat and top) shouldn’t be restricted or they will buckle during periods of high humidity and shrink/crack during low humidity. Normally one end can be a fixed mount with other needed mounts allowed to move laterally to avoid this problem.
Nearly 2 years later, I’m curious if the table top or bench top has warped? I am asking since you glued and screwed rails under the table top. As the wood on the tops expand or contract, the rails will prevent the underside from moving, causing the table and bench tops to cup or bow. This is what I would expect from my own experiences though, and I’m curious what your experience has been.

Грустно за такой подход. Понятно, что это производство с применением дешёвой ручной силы, с акцентом не на качество, а на количество… в общем-то это и грустно. Имея такой арсенал крутого инструмента, можно делать более приятные шедевры, и так же в приличных масштабах. Конечно станет дороже конечный продукт, но оно того стоит, видеть безупречное изделие, а не стол, где лужа клея до сих пор видна, и скрученный на глаз.
I respectfully disagree with the title. The way I have found gives me the best use, and makes the most and easiest money out of scraps, are by cutting them into sticks of standard height and width but various lengths, and gluing them up to chopping boards. I cut them in 40*60 cm boards, and sell them for 70€ a piece. It doesn’t make for a very interesting article, though! 😉👍
What a clever idea especially the “bricks”. From one cat lover to another: Hope you’ve sealed the timber well. First thing I ever built was a large kitchen table. I just waxed the top as I wanted it to wear. Coming down the first morning obviously the cat was sleeping on the highest place. I shouted, she woke and peed in distress. Despite wiping it immediately there is still a stain reminding me of the cat that’s passed a long time ago.
