They send the file to an Office supply store? Or an online printer like Vista Prints? Then it will have to be shipped to them & they’ll have to purchase frames and put them together. This is the thing that people don’t seem to comprehend when starting an Etsy shop and/or an e-commerce business in general – results don’t happen overnight. If your expectation is to make quick art and sell it quickly on these shops, you might as well throw in the towel now. Like with any business, getting traffic to your site is key. You need traffic to convert to sales. Most people get discouraged after a month or two because they see little to no traffic and think it means their products aren’t good enough. Which leads ro failure. If you believe in your work or what you are offering, then sticking with it, putting in the effort and continuing to learn how the business works to bring traffic to your shop, is the only way to have a successful business. I know a few people that started from scratch with their shops. On average it took them 6-8 months to start seeing steady, profitable sales. All three are about 2 or more years into their shops and doing quite well. Now they are implementing AI work into their process and things have really taken off. So it takes time. Just like any other business. No different than starting a YouTube website. It doesn’t happen overnight. If you aren’t willing to invest your time, effort and money, then you won’t see the results. So this was a good article for anyone getting into the space. To understand this is a marathon, not a sprint. Set your expectations, base those expectations in REALITY, research the business and put in the work. These are the keys to making things happen.
Something else I want to mention if you just opened an Etsy store it’s important to know that anytime you change or edit your Etsy listing it will take at least 24 to 36 hours to actually get it back into the algorithm. So keep that in mind every time you make an edit or change to your listing, you will not see much traffic on that for one to two days he needs time to get back into the algorithm.

Agreed, without marketing there is no traffic, conversion is another aspect but if you can combine both it works. However, from experience a store that makes about 5k to 6k a month generates about 1K to 2K a month. Don’t forget your fees and expenses. It’s ridiculous, better to start your own store with it’s own products and marketing yourself. The other major expense is dropshiping. It’s as if the producers are trying to take profit from the retailers. It’s gotten insane but the days of Manufacturing, distribution, wholesaling, and retailing are changing. Retailers are doing all the work and getting the short end of the profits. It’s insane!!!!

People on Instagram seem to like them, and I really enjoy creating them. If I set up an etsy shop and got 2 sales per month I’d be thrilled that anyone liked my stuff enough to actually spend money on it and hang it on their wall.
At last! A realistic AI art article that doesn’t promise we can all make $15,000 a month from a few prints. Its not easy. Even with the ads, its about 25c-45c a click, and you need a lot of clicks to make a sale. So with low profit items, I even find the ads are costing more than the profit on the sales they generate.
This was a hard dose of reality. I have been reading/watching everything I could find on AI art sales online. I’m an old school artist and this is all new and scary. Younger ones take this newer tech for granted but older artists have to learn the language and how to generate material. This kind of stuff will flood the platform even more and push out the real artists. I feel sorry for them. I think there may be a law coming soon saying AI art needs to be marked as such. Wow, selling AI art prints seems like a tough challenge. It’s interesting to see the artist’s process from generating the art to printing and advertising it. I can understand why they chose to sell physical prints instead of digital ones. Print-on-demand services like Printful seem convenient, taking care of printing, packaging, and shipping. It’s a shame that the artist’s Etsy account got suspended, but it’s good to hear that they were able to resolve it and continue with the challenge. The artist’s struggle to get views and sales on Etsy is quite disheartening. It’s surprising that most of the visits turned out to be bots. It must have been frustrating to have only a handful of real visitors after 18 days. It’s understandable that they decided to try running Etsy ads as a last-ditch effort. Finally, after running ads for five days, they made their first sale. It’s a relief for them, even though they ended up with a negative net income. Overall, it seems like selling AI art prints on Etsy is a challenging endeavor. It requires niche targeting, effective keywords, and possibly running ads to gain visibility. While this artist didn’t make a significant profit in the 30-day challenge, they believe that with more time, they could have potentially turned things around. It’s a valuable lesson about the difficulties of selling art online.
Question is, do we avoid tagging anything with “AI” to avoid customer knowing that this are made or generated by AI. I don’t mind trying to make and sell with ai art, but if I am forced to intentionally ignore or notify my customer that this is AI generated it feels like I’ve made sales base off their ignorance. Does it make a difference? Not to some, but to me …. if I gain support, I want the right category of people supporting.
What about Copyright Infringment? Having myself applied for protection from the United States Trademark and Patent Office, a lot of people think they will grab some art somewhere and sell on any platform to make some quick $$$$. The USPTO asserts that if a person or artist creates art which is his work, that image, photo, drawing, sketch, watercolor, oil color, etc becomes his art and gets copyright protection even if he didn’t not actually file with USPTO. Trademark is a different deal, If you file with USPTO to protect your product, mark, slogan, music, you are issued a registration which means people are not to use your creation, logo, art, etc. Patent is a different animal like if you invent something, your invention will be protected too. So having said this, people should not rush to grab someone’s work and peddling on platforms as if it was yours with the exception the art or creation is public domain. Here also, USPTO decides what and what is not public domain. Take a few art classes and start watercoloring or oil painting what you like or create art digitally on any software. You can use sketchbook, Canva, GIMP, Paintshop Pro, Coreldraw, etc. You can even use ipad with electronic paint. You can even use just carbon pencil, once your art is done scan it and fit with the platform’s specs as far as DPI, pixels, size, ratios is concern.
Don’t bother using Etsy and the fake sells these articles provide. I’ll tell you why as someone who uses Etsy and made 1190 USD in revenue per month. 1) Etsy Seller help service is horrendous, they recently removed the live chat option as well so goodluck receiving any helpful email from them when you encounter a problem and oh let me tell you, you’ll definitely encounter a problem. Most they’ll do is rephrase what’s in their TOS and written FAQs or most of the time they just link you to those pages instead of providing you help. 2) payment reserves, you’ll get this for absolutely no reason, their stated reasons for getting your payment reserved in your account is literally 1) making your first sale, 2)making an influx of sales, and how their terms on how payment reserve works is extremely scummy. Theyll say your money will be release from reserve if you use a DISPATCH YOUR ORDER WITH A VALID TRACKING ID, what they don’t say tho a valid tracking ID means you have to buy their ‘Etsy shipping label’ and only that even USPS is considered non valid for them. Joke. Essentially their withholding your payment just so you can buy their shipping labels and they take 10% off every sale you make plus another 2.5% if you’re not in the US. 3) their copyright system is a joke, literally, anyone can report you for copyright and it will never get properly reviewed. You can literally submit a copyright report without an Etsy account and using a gmail account you created 5 mins ago, all with fake credentials and it’s not uncommon for your competitors to fake report you just to take your listings down so their rank higher, especially if your shop is blowing up and you’re still a small shop.

Credit score is not something used in all countries though. In France, they determine if you are eligible to get a loan (e.g., to buy a house) based on the ratio between your salary, your expenses and your savings. Basically, if every month you ‘burn’ all your money, you’re perceived as riskier than someone earning less but consistently making deposits to a saving account. I feel in the US people tend to buy things they don’t need with money they don’t have… The only times I feel one should need a credit is when buying ‘big’ things (house, car, etc.). Not for a TV. Etsy ads aren’t very good. With every seller flooding every niche with every kind of Print on Demand product one can imagine, the ad costs are competitive, which raises the price. A store with a good conversion rate is approximately 2%. Tips: 1. Don’t use clickbate images. 2. Don’t use stock images already found online. 3. Etsy’s algorithms take about 30 days to properly place a new product listing in the right niches, categories, search keywords, and suggested items. So don’t expect many sales within the first 30 days, even if you spend money on ads. 4. Have a minimum of 25 listings (5 listings for each of your sub-niches) listed for a minimum of 30 days before advertising.
Heres a problem. Printful charges: when I did this, its gonna cost about 13-15 dollars for a 12X12 inch frame and today, about 30 dollars in shipping Etsy charges: Etsy is gonna charge you .20 cents per listing a month WHICH MAY NOT seem like much, but considering your ONLY gonna profit 2.00 per sale that adds up PRETTY quickly, and odds are your not gonna have a ton of customers buying your products right away unless you have money to begin with to spend for advertisement. The final cost after shipping was about 53ish dollars, and I am only making 2 dollars out of that 53ish. I mean, yeah you ARE using other people’s resources to do this work, but considering your charged .20 cents per every listing a month vs how many sales you may get, its questionable weather this is logical to do right now. Now, if there is something I am missing in this please let me know, all rude or responses with intent to insult me will be ignored.

The only thing that actually works is building a massive following on other social media websites and using etsy as a place to sell. Driving all your own traffic. Which is hard work, luck and time based. ** Do you have an easy method to make money that did work?

Honestly not worth the time. My shop was up for two months and favorited by three ‘influencers’ with over 3 million subs each (one had 7.2), I was one of two or three these people favorited but I got a sum total of zero sales. Etsy is bloated with sellers in the big spaces and when someone likes yours, Etsy shows them other stores that they may like better. I read 92% of all sellers on Etsy make under 500.00 a year. Better places to do business imo.

I think you did a fantastic job with the designs and I think they were niche enough but I don’t think Etsy is a good platform for new accounts to sell. Etsy makes it very difficult for new accounts to have views & traffic even if you pay for adds. I think you would have done better on insta, pinterest and Tik Tok

I would love to see more of the art that you listed. The ones that you show aren’t very attractive and also not what most Etsy buyers are looking for. Watercolor art is big on Etsy. So, while others in the comments are touting the honesty of the article (yes, the honesty is nice), there isn’t enough information to say that selling AI art on Etsy just doesn’t work. It can work, but many factors have to be in place, including art that Etsy buyers want to buy.
So this man is literally selling copyright infringe art pieces. What’s going to happen when he has pay the art the AI system stole from real artist ? Y’all don’t get it…that shit is stolen. First, thanks for the article. I’m sick of all those phonies holding up money and making get rich quick articles. They should be shut down. Second, get a drawing board, sharpies, felt pens, make original art. Sell it at craft fairs. You will then really truly make $400 or $2000 a day. Your customers will tell you what they like. I just sold some art to a man who made $60,000 on one month selling wall art at galleries and shows and direct to his clientele. I have personally made over $4 million in sales of my crafts over about 40 years. That translates to about $45,000 a year in profit. Get of your butt!
