To measure windows for inside-mount blinds, use a tape measure to find the width of the window and then measure the length of the window. For outside-mount blinds, select a spot for the mount that is about 1 ½-3 inches (3.8-7.6 cm) above the window and measure from the mount location to about 2-4 inches (5.1-10.2 cm) below the window. To ensure the best fit and coverage for your windows, follow these steps:
- Measure the inside of the window frame’s width across the top, middle, and bottom.
- Measure the height at the left, middle, and right side.
- Measure the depth of the window to know how deep the blinds can be.
- Measure the width inside the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom and round down to the nearest 1/8-inch measurement.
- Use a steel measuring tape to get the depth of your window frame from the edge of the window’s surface to the edge of the window frame itself.
- Measure the height you would like the blind to be by measuring top to bottom. Be sure to measure high enough to cover the entire window and provide maximum coverage.
- Measure the width of the window sill from the top of the opening to the window.
- Use the shortest measurement for Sheer Shades and Vertical Blinds. For all other blinds and shades, use the smallest inside width and subtract 3/8″ for clearance.
- Measure the height in three places: left, middle, and right.\n10
