The inside cabins on a cruise ship are cabins without windows or any outside space, located in the ship’s interior rather than along the ship’s exterior. They are usually the smallest and least expensive stateroom category that can be booked. Inside cabins are usually the lowest-priced and run down the inside center of the ship on each deck, with no window. Oceanviews run along the outside.
A true “run of the ship” means that you can be upgraded to any cabin on the ship, including inside, outside, porthole, large window, obstructed view, balcony, etc. These cabins are closer to the center of the ship than “outside” ocean-view and balcony cabins, making them more stable in rough seas. A fun inside room upgrade is a virtual balcony room, which is a fun inside room upgrade.
Inside cabins are typically located in the ship’s interior rather than along the ship’s exterior. They are assigned to passengers sometime before the ship sails, generally ranging from 2 weeks to when they check in for their cruise. The typical cruising yacht will include galley/eating, head, saloon seating, stateroom/sleeping berths, and navigation purpose-built spaces and fittings.
In summary, inside cabins are the lowest-priced and most popular types of cabins on Royal Caribbean ships. They are located in the ship’s interior, with no windows or outside space, and are designed to provide a comfortable and secure environment for passengers.
📹 Why You Don’t Do Interior Work While The Ship Is In Drydock
This episode is a discussion of the work that will and won’t be done while the ship is out of the water. To send Ryan a message on …
What is run in maritime?
A run is a precise point of sail wherein a boat is sailing directly downwind. To maximize efficiency, the sails must be fully eased out.
What does run of the ship mean?
ROS (Royal Ocean Service) is a cruise ship system where passengers are assigned a cabin before the ship sails, usually ranging from 2 weeks to check-in time. This system allows passengers to select their own cabin, which can be either an outside or mid-ship cabin due to seasickness or the ship’s less rocky terrain. The downside is that passengers may be upgraded to a higher-level and more expensive cabin than they paid for. Some cruise lines may even put passengers in empty cabins or suites to make them happy.
Some people believe that ROS means getting the best available room when they are selected, but this is not always the case. Some passengers may get a better cabin, but it is a gamble. Some passengers prefer lower outside cabins due to their location on the lowest passenger deck and the quick elevators. Some passengers may be upgraded from inside cabins to outside or even suites.
I personally would take the ROS if I booked the lowest, most reasonable stateroom on the ship and take my chances. It is a crap-shoot, and it is important to be cautious when booking ROS.
What is the lowest level of a ship called?
Orlop deck is the lowest deck in a ship, usually below the waterline, and is the horizontal structure that forms the hull’s roof, strengthening it and serving as the primary working surface. Vessels often have multiple levels within the hull and in the superstructure above the primary deck, similar to floors of a multi-storey building. Decks have specific names and serve a primary purpose of structural support and weather-tightness.
The deck serves as the lid to the complex box girder, resisting tension, compression, and racking forces. The deck’s scantling is usually the same as the topsides or might be heavier if it is expected to carry heavier loads.
On ships with more than one level, the term “deck” refers to the level itself, while the actual floor surface is called the sole. In modern ships, interior decks are usually numbered from the primary deck, which is 1, downward and upward. Some merchant ships may designate decks below the primary deck by numbers, and those above it by letters. Decks may also be called by common names or invent fanciful and romantic names for specific areas of the ship, such as the lido deck of Princess Cruises’ Love Boat.
Which cabins should I avoid on a cruise ship?
Cabins on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class of ships, including Oasis, Allure, Harmony, and Symphony of the Seas, are designed to be soundproofed but not located above the theatre or clubs, below the pool, above/below a busy restaurant/bar, or near lifts. To avoid noise pollution, cabins should be located above the pool, below a busy restaurant/bar, or near lifts. Specialist cruise consultants are available to advise on these matters. In addition to standard balcony cabins, new categories have been added to the Oasis class, offering views of the Boardwalk and Central Park areas.
What does interior mean on a cruise ship?
Interior cabins, also referred to as inside rooms, are the smallest cabins on cruise ships. They are often situated within the interior hallways and offer a limited amount of space, storage, and natural light.
What is the interior of a ship called?
A cabin is defined as a room within a boat, which may be utilized for either sleeping or as the entire interior space. A casting deck or platform is an elevated surface utilized for fishing activities, offering unobstructed views of the surrounding aquatic environment. A clam is a fitting utilized for the attachment or looping of a line, while a cockpit is a protected, enclosed space on the deck of a boat, utilized for the control and steering of the vessel.
What makes a ship run?
A ship’s engine powers propellers at the back, pushing it through water. The rudder assists in steering. When not moving, a heavy metal anchor can be lowered into the water. Ships are used for various purposes, including trade, warships, industrial, and pleasure vessels. Trade ships carry various cargo types, such as container ships, general cargo ships, bulk ships, tankers, and refrigerated ships.
Warships, such as aircraft carriers, cruisers, destroyers, and submarines, are used by the military for various purposes. Warships have a flight deck for takeoffs and landings, while cruisers, destroyers, and submarines are used for other purposes.
What does running a ship mean?
Ruth, a tight-knit CEO, is known for his ability to control a business or organization effectively. He is known for his discipline and has no patience for laziness. Ruth’s reputation for running a tight ship ensures that the new CEO brings order to the firm. The translations for Ruth’s English are available in various languages, including Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Arabic, Bangali, Catalan, Czech, Danish, Gujarati, Hindi, Korean, Marathi, Russian, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
What is the entrance and run of a ship?
The entrance angle and run angle are the angles formed by the tangent lines of the bow and stern water lines, respectively. These angles are crucial for understanding the behavior of a vessel, as they help in determining the stability and efficiency of the vessel. The entrance angle is crucial for navigation, while the run angle is essential for navigation and stability. Both angles are essential for accurate navigation and safety.
What is the run of a ship?
In the context of maritime engineering, the term “run” is used to describe the narrowing of the sides of a vessel at the hooding ends, where they meet.
What is the interior cabin of a ship?
Choosing a cabin on a cruise is a simple process, with options including suites, balcony cabins, ocean view cabins, and interior cabins. These cabins are located within the ship’s heart, offering no views but can be cost-effective but may affect sleep. The lack of portholes in interior cabins is not a major issue, as they are often the best deals on the ship. However, choosing an interior cabin may not guarantee access to the ship’s amenities, as you are still a paying customer.
For those who sleep like a log or are prone to motion sickness, it is advised to steer clear of interior cabins. They offer immediate access to the outside world and can make it easier to oversleep. The main advantage of interior cabins is that they can sleep like a baby, but they may also cause pitch-black darkness when all natural light is turned off. This is beneficial for those who prefer sleeping in the dark but bad for those who rely on sunlight for wide awakeness.
📹 Lucrehulk COMPLETE Breakdown & Interior Tour | Star Wars CIS Ships
The Lucrehulk battlestation was one of the most important ships during the Clone Wars, and perhaps in all of Star Wars history.
Ryan, may I suggest a subject for a article series? Show us a day in the life of a crewmember – where their bunk is, where their duty station is, where they would go for meals. Show us by walking between all the spaces a crewmember would use in one day – an engine oiler, a gunner’s mate, a radioman, etc.
If you had unlimited money for drydocking, I would say reactivate the traverse/elevation system for one of the main turrets, but I think you said in a previous article that you guys just don’t have enough shore power to actually fire ’em up. Something else I’d like to see is all the screens in CEC to be lit up with mock displays of whatever they would be hooked up to, but I’m not sure how feasible that is.
The sheer logistics of providing services and the costs of keeping a ship safe in a dry dock are astronomical . It does make sense to only do underwater work and with the hull openings sealed there isn’t the need to remove any internal equipment . Ryan’s priorities are right, but once out of the water there may be other discoveries that would test the budget . These are old ships and this will be the first opportunity to inspect parts that haven’t been seen for many years .
I would love to see at least some of the ship’s systems come back to life. I agree that turrets rotating and guns being able to elevate and decline would be wicked cool. I know ever seeing her move again under her own steam is a unrealistic pipe dream…But hell, I’m old now. Had a chance to fly in a B-17G when I was 19 and a member of a museum. I also got to drive the M4 Sherman on occasion.I love the old tech. But to see a Iowa class have her screws spin again…I can keep dreaming, can’t I?
If you have any ballast tanks still containing liquid, that might be worth doing while in dry dock. They’d have the facilities for properly disposing on any oil or fuel that was in them, and you wouldn’t have to worry much about lugging barrels up through the ship if you pumped them out while at your pier.
Interesting question Ryan. If had infinite money what would I like to see done…… I am sure there is many who would disagree with what I think I would do but. That is their choice. First off if had unlimited money. I would look at the thickness of the hull itself. If it is less than half what used to be or close to it. I would completely rehull the ship. That way there is no worries for the hull for at least the next 80 odd years. Next, like others i would love it if the turrets could be rotated and the gun raised and lowered. Now. I know in previous articles you have said there simply is not enough capacity in the existing power supply from the shore. So there is a couple of options here. 1. upgrade the shore power to be able to handle it (which would also increase the yearly costs) or 2. find a reasonably large empty room which is reasonably easy to access from outside the ship (realising that panels might have to be cut out) and install a big diesel generator capable of supplying enough power for lights etc. or even putting on on the shore and getting it wired in. I think though, it would be better located within the ship that way it could provide heating to keep the inside of the ship warm not allowing condensation to form. If within the ship then all would need is a diesel line run from its location to somewhere external which then could have a diesel tank on the shore connect too. (does not necessarily need to be diesel, it could be gas etc) I wonder with those guns sitting so long already without moving has it “flattened” the bottom of the hundreds of rollers already considering the weight of the turrets.
I guess for an in-service ship they might also major interior work in a drydock if that required the really heavy shipyard cranes (such as the interwar rebuilds where the engineering plant was replaced as part of going from coal to oil. Though, come to think of it, that particular upgrade might have required moving sea chests and other through hull openings; so at least part of it might have required drydocking anyway).
What type of bottom paint do you propose to use and what color will it be ? Also please do not paint the hull gray too low on the hull as Missouri did. Her black Boot topping should be much higher as she is riding high in her unladen condition. I believe New Jersey, Iowa, and Wisconsin have their paint scheme correct in all aspects as it now stands. Thanks for the article.
Ryan did say, “Infinite money!” Once you’ve got that, all engineering challenges can be solved! Activate every single system you can on that ship, WITHOUT violating the contract with the Navy. Infinite money! Once you’ve got ALL of the turrets training and elevating, have special fireworks shells designed so that you can SAFELY put up a broadside from the entire main battery on the 4th of July! Or anytime you want, for that matter. Make giant Santa Claus hats for the funnels at Christmas time! Infinite money! Come on, y’all, use your imaginations!😊
So I had a decent idea 💡. At first I was thinking you should add a smiley face for the next curator… but then I had a great thought. You could sell hull space to put donor names. It won’t change the ship above the water but the donors will know. Make the price point such that you can employ a painter and make enough to do some projects… there is plenty of square footage under there!!!
Another answer is, because New Jersey is also in really good shape. Look for rusted out rotting structures in New Jersey and there’s just not that much that needs the level of attention that requires heavy maintenance crews while in drydock. What can’t be done with the ship in the water? Those are the things you do in drydock. That’s all.
Add another shore power line like another Iowa, to have the ability to move the turrets. Other than that, cosmetics to keep rust stains off the paint or paint her back to the black dragon to differentiate her from the other Iowa’s. Repair all the turrets so they can move, prior articles with getting the locking Pins out.
I always thought that the best thing for all museum ships would be to provide guided tours or have someone in each main area explain how things worked and why. Whether volunteers or paid, I think it would make a huge difference in the way people would think and treat the ships. I personally would pay or pay more if I knew there would be more information shared.
I guess im a little surprised that the Navy doesnt give you at least some funding for maintenance, since in a way you are keeping the ship not just for the public but for the chance (though unlikely) that it was ever needed again… (Though maybe you do receive some and i just haven’t srrn the articles where you mentioned it yet…)
If you had infinite money? It would be awesome if you had a full time paid crew that could operate the ship, minus weapons of course, then people like me could pay to stay a few night whilst the ship was going up and down the river or at sea and play sailor for a few days. That’s what I’d love to see. But i always want things that aren’t even close to being possible lol.
If you had an infinite amount of money, I would say build your own drydock. The ship could float until work needs to be done, at which point the drydock is drained, the ship goes on blocks, and the work gets done. Once the work is complete, then the drydock is refilled, and the ship refloated. I suppose if you dream big enough, finding some way to build a climate controlled building around the ship would be nice from a preservation standpoint (no rain indoors), but the operation and upkeep of such a colossal structure would probably exceed the operational costs of the ship. Good thing for an unlimited amount of money.
Well, with unlimited funds, I suppose you could just keep the ship in a permanent drydock indefinitely, so you could drain the water every few years to remove growth from the hull. And also to keep the ship in water that wont be moving, due to tides, currents, etc. Other than that, I’d say it would be nice to get one of the auxilery diesels operable, so it could be used to power bulge pumps in an emergency.
At least one “Operational” representation of every type of weapon system she’s ever carried “outside of the missiles because DUH” I also think it would be AWESOME and very educational to have at least 1 functional boiler. Definitely not reactivation of engines or anything, just one boiler for special events and educational programs.
If you guys have infinite money, restore all the main battery and gun so that you guys can do a bi-anunal cruise out to sea and do a full broad side firring blanks. Like enough powder for the blast effect but nothing more. Even if New Jersey would need to be towed to place, so be it. But a bi-annual or annual firring of the main battery would be awesome.
You can’t compare what Texas is doing to what BB62 needs to do. 5 years ago she was in danger of sinking and now she’s getting most of her sides replaced. NJ lives in fresh water and never got to that condition plus you never know what they might find once they see her bottom so you have to allow for that. After that you can pick at the other things.. it’s a good plan
Are there things that (if they were needed) would cost the same in the yard as at the pier? If the same people would be doing it with the same equipment and it doesn’t change the time in dry dock at all, would things still be more expensive to do concurrently? Even if there were things like that, likely the only reason to do them would be if they would require closing to the public, so the question is basically hypothetical.
With unlimited money and the advantage of having all Iowas left it would be cool to get them into different periods of interpretation, e.g. New Jersey back to Vietnam era and Missouri back to end of WW2. article idea (if not already there): What period would you choose for each ship if each should be shown in a different period?
In a perfect world I would restore the boilers, engines, guns and CEC\\bridge to near ready, working condition (but vitally disabled to comply with navy). Show everything ALIVE (or a facsimile of it), how it really worked back then! Let people see the living ship as sailors did years ago! That would be incredible. And impossible. C’est la vie.
I’m curious about the triple bottom, are the levels accessible? Are they maintained and panted as well as your bilges? After that safety issue I agree with the many other that powered turrets would give her a great WOW factor. Perhaps unblanking the sea chest for the good auxiliary generator and getting it running could give you the required power with out the expense of extra shore power cables and demand charges.
I know this will never happen but imagine one of the battleships being restored to running condition and doing a goodwill cruise among US allies. I live in Australia and can’t afford to travel to the us and i would love to see a ship like the new jersey sail into Sydney harbor. And get to board her and have a look around. Who knows what the future holds.
I’d definitely like to see all the missing superstructure and mast equipment replaced on the the ship. If not the real thing then mockups that look real. Missing radars, the missing harpoon tubes, that sort of thing. Add more moving parts to make the ship look more like she did on active duty. Also, reapply the interior coatings on all the below water spaces for preservation. You never know when the next time they get replaced will be.
Does anyone know when Texas will be done and start being a normal museum ship again. From what I heard, it will be stationed in, or around Galveston. The reason I ask, is that I was thinking of taking a cruise out of Galveston and would love to see Texas. I was thinking late 2024, or even early 2025.
The question of the freeboard coating to me would be about if you can do a better job in the yard without the motion and any water spray or similar issues created by being in the water vs in the drydock. If you can do a better coating in the yard I’d be thinking about it. If you can do just as good of a system of coatings at the pier, then yes leave it to then.
It makes perfect sense to only do work that’s pertinent to the exterior and through-hull elements when in dry dock. Not just for monetary reasons, let’s say for the same of argument that NJ was given free time in a dry dock and unlimited money… dunno for her curators, but i’d be nervous about all that weight outside. NJ isn’t getting any younger and a boat’s structure isn’t meant to stay out of water. I would consider all her out of water exits fast travel towards damage. Possibly exaggerated, but if structures greater and harder have broken when taken out of context so can she.
I was going to say something about having the turbine engines or boilers reactivated for stationary use, but since the turbine itself has so few visible moving parts anyways, I almost wonder if some kind of sound system in one of the engine rooms to simulate the turbine hum would be viable. Or perhaps some way of getting the funnels to puff “smoke”? Do your engine room telegraphs work? That might be a fun thing to show on a tour, depending on the route. It could be timed so that two different tour groups in different parts of the ship reach their end of the instrument simultaneously, and the guides “talk” to each other for a moment while demonstrating.
I know you cant start the engine’s but if i have a car and dont start the engine in it for mont’s, maybe year’s the parts just corroding tougather and practicly have to renew te full engine, cant run just after 2-5 years staying even is i change the fuel and oil befor try to start it. If i let run for 5-10 min any 2-3 monts at least its a way less problem even after a decade to start the same enegine. I know you have cleared the fuel tanks to avoid leaking problems, and other changes happend. Its not a possibility under official controll, out of water to do some maintinance on the engine’s and generator’s ther is 100% a way to block unaccepted use of it ?
If you had infinite money, you could get the engines running, hire a crew who can run it and do a world tour stopping at major ports and run tours aboard the ship and you Ryan get to sleep in the captains state room and the real Capt. Well you put him somewhere else since you are the one with the money.
Infinite money is a fun prospect because there’s your realistic, grounded answers like have the ship in a more thorough drydock to make her as complete and sound as possible so she lives essentially forever. The more fun answer is to use your infinite money to fund her reactivation and training of all the sailors and officers needed to crew her so that the firepower for freedom never goes silent again.
The “infinite money” question is easy, and you probably see it coming- Re-activate the ship in Drydock. Your contract may prohibit it, but do you really think if you approached the US navy and said “Hey, we have 10 billion dollars for this reactivation, will you let us do it or take the ship into USN care to do it yourselves” they’re going to say no? With infinite money there is a point at which they’d say yes- the deal can be altered. Honestly speaking, though, I genuinely do think that if by some miracle any of the Iowas could raise enough captital to re-activate and prove they can maintain it in that state that the Navy may strongly consider giving it the go-ahead, because the recruitment and propaganda value of having a fully operational battleship is pretty huge. Even just sailing it up and down the US coast would be a massive win
If you had infinite money, I’d like to see something similar to what Missouri did during the movie Battleship. Maintenance run under own power (with Navy supervision of course.) Take her out to sea and fire a blank shot or fireworks/star/illumination rounds from all 9 main battery guns. Full broadside, movie style. Great to see on nights like the 4th of July too.
I always think thar at some point, one Iowa should be reactivated for historical purposes. Surely, it would take hundreds of millions and definitely require Navy personnel, but if the Navy does it with Uss Constitution… why not an Iowa? Surely, as said, it would cost n times more than the Constitution. However, dreams are inexpensive.
If i was a Elon Musk rich kind of guy i would simply pay for every single system on the ship to be fully repaired and certified, every single inch sandblasted, treated and put back into 100% working condition Hell i would put some dough in the pocket of the navy and have the propulsion system back on, turn it into the first museum ship cruise ship experience, so to speak
With Infinite money, I’d like to see every system be restored to working condition., a crew trained to sail the ship, and the ship used as a cruise ship, where people could take trans Atlantic trips…. And sail to the most historic sites in the Pacific. The ship would also sail alongside active fleets, especially those with super carriers. Goes without saying the cruise would include being on the ship as the New Jersey shelled naval island firing ranges with actual live rounds from 5 & 16″ guns.. And of course passengers would get to shoot down drones with WW II vintage 20 and 40 mm anti aircraft guns. YOU SAID “INFINITE MONEY.” 😀😀😀
seems like the dc systems in the ship would really, really hate voltage irregularities especially with the lack of an sufficient ground.. maybe totally off base there but even 12v systems can be totally compromised in this way. that is also without the nightmare of cathodic protection regardless of voltage or phase. even welding on a car with the electrical systems in play is a bad idea I just can’t even imagine when you throw in things like cathodic protection shore power insufficient grounds ECT. figuring the least of the issues would be blowing half the bulbs on the ship..
All the money? Bottomless bucket? Dig out and create a berth/drydock. Upgrade shore power. Re-hull. Repaint everything. Anything not present get some good machinists to make mock up replicas. Repair any systems that can be repaired while someone alive still has some clue how to do some of those analog things. Have the pier entrance area done up like a military pier in preparation for deployment. Then build a building over it, the whole thing, but make it like that crazy Vegas dome theater screen. Boom…. We’re in the Persian Gulf, or off the coast of Lebanon, or in the Pacific or at the mouth of the Gulf of Tonkin…. Full bore full size diorama. Along with multiple “movies” for the period of interpretation, could have ship history and class of ship history in the program lineup. Plus have a couple dozen HT’s on staff permanently, maybe a Navy diver or three. Let’s get silly if we’re going to talk about ALL the money!
If you have unlimited funding, fix up the museum ships as museums. Then build a fleet of BBGN’s! Think 47 cm, 55 caliber, 3 gun turrets forward, and vertical launch tomahawk / harpoon cells aft. (Think Yamato, only bigger and faster.) Bulbus underwater bows to cut down the bow wave. Propellers similar to the modern submarine screws for speed and efficiency.
If I remember right, the pre war Lucrehulk had the add-on generators while the wartime Lucrehulk was able to use military grade reactors to avoid bad child actor related losses. The wartime refit would also feature 185 quad point defense laser batteries, a staggering 520 assault laser cannons, and 51 quad turbolasers. Most of the turbolasers were moved to the outer ring so I imagine that the quad point defense lasers could basically create a killing field inside the ring. The point defense lasers probably couldn’t even scorch the armor on the Lucrehulk. They would also receive even greater shielding so the likelihood of an enemy reaching the reactor is even less. There aren’t really any good ways of out maneuvering these, just run and pray the Vultures won’t catch you. Spoiler alert: they probably can and will.
I think it’s a terribly underrated ship. It’s flaws make it more grounded, as its not some invincible super battleship carrier, it’s just a retrofitted cargo ship with a ton of space inside. It has a set role and fills it admirably. I like it when fictional navies have specialised ships that excel at a set task.
for a dedicated carrier ship I think its as close to perfict as you can get. its not suposed to be taking on capitle ships and usualy wouldn’t need to with fifteen hundred some odd vultres and hyena droids on board. and just one can subjugate a planet on its own in terms on troop carrying capasity. its a great shape and desine that works great for what it was meant for. I love this ship, if it ever comes to armada I’m so there to play it.
One of these would have been perfect for the Rebels to use as a Base, instead of Yarvin…Hoth…wherever. Massive internal capacity for fighter and Corvette maintenance (It’s large enough that GR75’s could fit inside), and general operations and C & C. Plus being CIS it’s mostly automated so crew requirements are minimal, important for the manpower limited Rebellion. And being based on a commercial cargo ship, spares are probably easy to find and it wouldn’t stand out too much if stumbled upon by accident by passing ships. The idea of using a heavy carrier for the Rebellion is not as a combat ship, but as a hidden base that can relocate when necessary. It should never meet enemy ships if all goes well. But should the Imperials discover your base, that is hidden in a abandoned system, well, that base just hyperspaces to another system, maybe making a double jump, before the Imperial fleet shows up. Imagine if Hoth base had been a Lucrehulk, spot Imperial probe droid and they are jumping in 5 minutes. If instead they detect a Imperial fleet emerging from hyperspace they jump instantly to coordinates they’ve already calculated, then from there they jump elsewhere. If your Base ship is in combat, something went seriously wrong. The only chance the Empire has is to drop several Interdictors right on top without any warning that the base had been spotted and make sure the Interdictors aren’t disabled before the ISD’s can pummel the Lucrehulk. It’s so obvious to use one in this role, that you could be forgiven for thinking that the Lucrehulks existed after the Rebellion, not before it.
The design never made much sense to me, but the way you explain and you see how it would work operationally, it makes total sense. Regarding your comments about time equals money when it comes to loading and unloading, I can tell you that when it comes to Great Lakes shipping; that is exactly how those big lake freighters work. So it’s like that in real life, too. Great content (as always).
I have read that the vessels built during the war and even some (especially if they were already in for extensive repairs) were retrofitted and overhauled with better shielding, more armor, and a vastly superior armament/weapon layout. Im sure this is all classified info, and couldn’t be confirmed or denied by our tour guide
Definitely an undervalued ship in Star Wars. My only complaint is that there are too many bits sticking out exposed. By only adding a little more mass the satellites controlling the droids can theoretically be withdrawn into the outer armor plating, which leaves more prime real estate for more effective weapon placements. You could also place the transmission dishes on all sides of the ship, so you’re not restricted to the sunny side of the ship facing the planet (why else would you need an actual dish anyway?). I personally think that closing off the center area with an opening hanger section would be optimal, if only befor the modular aspect. You could increase the cargo capacity if you wanted. Or you could tighten down on the weaker points of the defense system. Even better yet is a safe spot for fighter craft to scramble and be rapidly released in the event of an incoming attack. Or you could simply launch the invasion force that much quicker after popping out of hyperspace!
8:00: Hulk is also a type of ship. Typically an incomplete or nonseaworthy one. So a lucrehulk is basically a ‘Sheqelbarge’. Edit: googling this, it looks like the term is frequently used for ships that are more designed to be floating facilities than boats. Like a floating barracks, prison, or repair depot, which is similar to its role as a carrier in the movie.
This ship is amazing, and chalk full of potential even after being so powerful. I think its potential was limited based on the fact it was always used by a faction scripted to lose, but when you hear about what it could doz especially its size, it becomes very clear this ship was a behemoth. Seeing that shot where 3 of them were blockading a planet, after hearing their capabilities, gave me a newfound awe of them. Long live the CIS
Gotta say, if the Rebels ever got their hands on one of these suckers?! The amount of X Wings, A Wings, B Wings, Y Wings, and troops here would be DEADLY. Maybe with a few Venators there as well for that solid, well rounded lead ship for the Generals to command from (Venator can have many roles) and shoot, bye bye Empire.
One of my favorite ships. Always wondered what a beefed up version could really do. I always imagined adding several reactors to provide enough power to cover the thing in quad cannons. Regardless in my opinion it’s the best flagship/control ship for a fleet as it can handle itself in a fight and it has Amazing sensors and communication equipment.
The Lucrehulk it’s a fortress with the engine but not enough firepower for bring justice on the size of the ship. Why? 1 – Because the Ruusan contract denied enough firepower for every ship before the Clone Wars 2- because the Neimodians are Trader and so their think to make a profit not the efficiency for their ships and army. P. S. Sorry for my English 😭
I always thought one, or even better a couple of these, would have made great rebel bases, park them just outside the galaxy, where we see them at the end of ep 5. It should have been refit as a of mobile defensive fortress, and even had starfighter production inside it, as opposed to used to attack the Death Star as it was. Sure this would have meant all their supplies and stuff would need to he hauled to it, but if there is one ship the rebels had in abundance it was the GR-75 medium transports so that shouldn’t have been an issue
Fun Fact: The ship that Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan boarded at the beginning of The Phantom Menace and the Droid Control Ship that Anakin destroyed are not the same ship. The ship at the beginning was Viceroy Nute Gunray’s personal flagship Saak’ak, while the Droid Control Ship was the Vuutun Palaa. The entire bridge crew of the Saak’ak was transferred to the Droid Control Ship when the invasion was completed, which is why we see the same crew on both ships. So far, neither Legends nor Canon have revealed what happened to the Saak’ak after the Trade Federation fleet ended the blockade of Naboo. So it’s possible it was still in sevice during the Clone Wars or even the Galactic Civil War and beyond.
also this ship has a HUGE amount of troops and things inside it, THATS INSIANANANA BANANA! EDIT:it had a bit to exposed radio towers tho. had a desent number of castistrofic flaws, if it fixed thos it would be EXTREMLY effective. i think a mix of quad lazer/turbo lazer/ion cannons, would make it a much more effective ship. another problem is the fact that its are REALLY god dame long and make it that you could have probs 100s of guns not able to fire forward. if its front was closed that would be better and have it FULL of generators for shelding and guns at the front and have a few on the sides. as well as maby have a few versons for that have equall number of guns all around in case of the 360 battle like the battle at corasot. (sorry for the bad gramer).
The name of the vessel does NOT come from the word “lucrative.” It comes, *quite OBVIOUSLY*, from the word “LUCRE,” which means “money” or “wealth.” “Lucrative” is an adjective sharing the same root word as “Lucrehulk,” but it is not the “source” of “Lucrehulk.” “Lucrehulk” is a simple, quite straightforward name, meaning “great mound or bulk of wealth/money.” GREAT article, though! Seriously! I find your articles informative, relaxing, funny, and enjoyable.
This should’ve been the Rebel Alliance mobile HQ. It could’ve been modified with extra generators, point defense weapons, engines, missile launchers and stronger shields. In 1BBY in legends I would’ve had 2 wings of r-22 y-wings whotecloaks and z-95 while having 24 cr90s as attack or escape crafts. Also could’ve been mobile shipyard fixing ships 350 meters and smaller in hangar bays.
I’m going to Heavy militarize the CIS Lukehulk putting 4 Heavy laser turret beams weapons on it. Putting 6 Mediun Laser turret beam weapons on it, and I’m putting 8 light laser turret beam weapons on it. Like on the Old Starwars Battle Front II game . And i’m also adding 25 + extra Weapons of each kind of weapons on the CIS Lulkhurk Class destoyer of Everykind on it of different types and kinds of TurboLasers on it, have Double twin Tubo lasers on it, have Heavy Turbolasers on it, have Long Range Turbolasers on it, have more Quad Turbolasers on it, Have Ion canons on it, and Have some retrackable missle pods on it underneath, and have some defensive laser cannons underneath it. Each Hanger will also have and hold 12 CIS Super Tanks, 24 Advanced Spider droids, 50 Hail Fire droids on it, and also have 25 Homing droids onto in the hangers. Each hanger!! Added 50+ Droid Tri fighters onto the hangers, and also will have 10 DROID Gunships on it and in it.
@MetaNerdz Lore You know, you can criticize a lot of things in the prequel trilogy (I hear your breathing Darth Jar Jar ;-p ) but the art design&ships and the showing of tech was marvelous in my opinion. And the Lucrehulk Shipdesign is one of this good things in SW. I really really like it. But didn´t the CIS upgraded those Lucrehulks alot in the Clone Wars? Wasn´t at least two different versions of that class serving in the CIS Navy? A slightly upgraded version like the original Droide Control Ship from Episode 1 and a retrofit Version with more weapons hardpoints and upgraded systems? But we know at least that the black sun has a handful of those Lucrehulks in there service, but strong modified to keep up straight to a Star Destroyer right?
Love this ship and it is for the 4th greatest and coolest military faction in SciFI only beat by 40k’s ‘Nids at #3. the #2 best is from the same 3 movies the Clone army. Only narrowly beat by the #1 being 30 +40k’s Dark Angels. ADR below is correct on the awesomeness of your quality, style, and format of lore and analysis articlees (but then you have always been my goto choice for StarWars in-universe coverage and lore anyway.
Just a pointer, on all variants there are 3 of those engine/main reactors, not 2. One for each engine :). Also, you can’t tell from most pictures, but those quad turbo lasers are insanely huge. They’re something like 50m wide with 70m long barrels. So they’d be good at sniping and have a lot of power, presumably to hold off capital ships from a distance or even bombard a planetary target from a distance if necessary.
Lukerhulk claimed size is impossible, just look at the docking of the Consular class ship the Jedi arrive in, the main hanger bay entry is only twice as wide as the ship, in Lukerhulks were 3km across that hangar bay entry would be twice as wide as the Consular is long. Likewise when the N-1 flys ito it the hangar opening (5:00 in the article) is clearly not more then about 12 times the fighters width which is just 80m total width. Overall that should make the Lukerhulk under a km across.
The one major drawback of the Lucrehulk battleship is its notoriously slow maneuverability. It seems designed almost as a space STATION that can repel starfighter attacks with its own immense complement of vulture droids and tri-fighters. Its turbolaser batteries are generally too slow to effectively destroy many fast fighters, and the scattering of these turbolaser batteries both inside and outside the ring does not maximize the battleship’s firepower for engagements against other capital ships, which typically would use focused wedge-shaped turbolaser power and/or turbolaser broadside attacks.
You’ve got it the wrong way round. Lucrative comes from the word lucre. Lucre is an old word which has Latin origins meaning financial gain or advantage, or greed for money. In modern English it has come to mean “money, especially when regarded as sordid or distasteful or gained in a dishonourable way”. Hence the phrase from the Bible, “filthy lucre”.
This ship along with the Providence crusiers and dreadnoughts as well as the Recussant light destroyers and dreadnoughts. Where the reason why the CIS was a devastating naval force! Had it not been for Palpatine’s machinations and if the Seperatist crisis had escalated on it’s own, then the Republic would have been crushed. Grand Army or not!
My allstar fleet composition: 2 Lucrehulks, with their fighter complement and invasion force. 4 Venators, with all the fighters and ground forces it can hold. 1 Malevolence (You know, the one with the ion cannon) loaded with all it’s fighters, and ground invasion forces. 3 Imperial star destroyers, loaded with fighters and a ground army. The tactics: have a planet or asteroid field to your back, with the Lucrehulks backed up next to it, the venators forming up to the top, bottom and sides of the Lucrehulks. The Malevolence directly in front of the Lucrehulks with it’s ion canon facing dead onto the enemy. The ISDs aranged in sort of a triangle around the Malevolence. The ships scramble fighters to run interference for the Malevolence until it can charge the ion canon. Then, have the fighters peel away from the enemy fleet at the last possible second. The Malevolence will fire it’s ion canon and disable most, if not all of the enemy fleet. Some enemy fighters may have given chase when allied fighters retreated, and/or some ships from the enemy fleet may have avoided being disabled by the ion canon. Just to be sure, bring up the ISDs around the enemy fleet to take out the remaining enemy fighters. Board the all of the enemy ships with the ground invasion forces, to either plant charges on the reactors of the enemy ships or to comandeer the enemy fleet to be weaponized as large missiles or as a shield for your fleet.
I’m sure I’m the only one who does not know the answer but please humor me haha how did you/they do the fly by/through different area of the ship? I just think that’s really kool! article/computer game or is it just some website or something? Either I love the way the article is done and really love the website! Right up there with Star Wars Theory for me
Every time I play Republic at War or any other Clone Wars mod for Empire at War, whenever the CIS invades one of my planets, they send in at least one of these bad boys, along with Droid Carriers and Providence Class Destroyers. The awful thing about that is, they have a butt ton of starfighters, and they send them in swarms to destroy whatever fleet I have defending my space station, and then the station itself! And in Rise of Palpatine, there are three gigantic hero versions of these ships, helmed by Rune Hakko, Sib Canay and Marr Tuk, which the CIS loves to send on raids against Christophis and Kamino (along with Admiral Trench, when he spawns on Ando)! Hate these things >:(
Well I was gonna make a statement about how that big of a haul would attract pirates but given the quick hyperdrive and massive amounts of vulture droids and turbolasers I probably wouldn’t try and steal one. Although if Pirates did get their hands on a fully-loaded one they’d probably have a field day.
This is it. This is the one ship from just about any series I would desire above all others. No mouths to feed, full army and navy forces, able to be commanded by a single person (or if you really needed to, you and a few friends) this is the ship you could park in orbit and use as your own personal space station city, as it has enough space aboard to fit just about anything you could want. And if you got a fully loaded one you would not only get the crew droids, but tanks and vultures and troop transports. This is my highest fantasy. Screw the enterprise I’ll travel in a damn droid ship with a small number of trusted friends as commanding officers.
If they add the Providence class ships into the Battlefront 2 game, i hope we’ll get a good view of the think. Would be amazing if you could walk inside it and check out different areas, even the bridge and so on, as i think was something you was gonna be able to do in the original BF3. I have my doubts we will see, but i can hope we will.
I’d have stolen one of these, too if I could have after the clone-wars 🙂 – I mean come on you can haul cargo that makes you millions at a time with one (and not even the Hutts or other pirates could stop you, at least not if it is the battleship version (the shields can tank the fire of multiple Venators after all!), not to mention you could easily set one up as a mobile factory (for battle-droids maybe) Seriously, if the Rebellion had gotten say 10 of them they’d have been set for a while, even without the Mon Cal Cruisers (the Lucrehulk is the better ship after all, especially since they are all the same – while the Mon Cal Cruisers are all unique and hard to maintain!)
It’s a great design but with a few changes it would be much more feasible as a combat shit like the large hanger bay entrances where the circle breaks should be shut during combat and only the inner ones open and all defence turrets in the middles should have a set face up and a set facing down from.the center preventing ships from being able to enter the hanger bays making it more than powerful enough to stop fighters and landing ships and then on.the outer area of the ship due to its shap either in one area or all over the ship there needs to be a concentration of weapons to make it capable of fighting against capital ships then and only then would ship be a good combat ship
good article, but may i make the suggestion you include, or maybe even replace, atmospheric speed with vacuum speed? when available, of course. for those interested, the Incredible Cross Sections lists the Lucrehulk’s acceleration at 300 gs, or about 2941 m/s2, or (roughly) from here to the Sun in about 4 hours.
Corelia or Kuat shouldd have copied this post rebellion for the new republic it would have been so fast at economic rebuilding since they favored demilitarization. A cargo ship that can supply a planet and can shove all pirate attempts and can hold off capital ships of independent war lords from offworld and even the hutts or black sun would not bother challenging it. Could also stand toe to toe with Imperial remnants it encounter from backwater regions. and it would be awesome to have these escorted by centuries proven old republic design of sphyrna class hammer head cruisers as they were the symbol of the republic for centuries. But even without escorts the lucrehulk was as tough as a mon cala cruiser before mon cala cruisers were popular and in fact it is a big fat MC cruiser + 1000 GR75 blended into one. If this did happen they would have had an easier time with Yuzhon Vhong in Legends or First order in Canon. And my character is a retired bounty hunter turned steel trader and very well off as a rich merchant with a Lucrehulk as home base and just recently purchased 16 baleen class super freighters that can fit snuggly inside my ship. Thats from our table top SW RPG.
Empire vs CIS Question I was wondering what would a battle between The CIS and the Empire (and maybe with the help of the Rebels) would turn out. I feel like the cis would win by sheer numbers, but the empire/rebels have generally better ships. Preliminary info So let’s make this into a scenario. There’s a planet/system in the outer rim maybe even a bit into the unknown region where a CIS factory and shipyard has been left uninterrupted and secretly building up an army and fleet. This fleet/army consists of every droid, vehicle, and ship created by the CIS. As to how this installation was unknown and rather left to it’s own devices, let’s say this: During the clone wars (let’s say mid or late clone wars) the higher ups of the trade federation and CIS decided to make what was to be a reserve fleet/army, secret, off the books and nearly self sufficient. This installation would only be known by the highest in the CIS/Federation. However during the end of the Those who knew were killed by Anakin (thanks Ani!). So with the installation kept secret and running on its own for years on, not receiving a shutdown order(or whatever it’s called). We have our fleet/army, which we will dub : Ghost Fleet Zero(a better name might be needed). Now for the empire, we’ll keep the executors and interdictor (though the interdictors are kinda useless with the CIS having pretty much nowhere to go anyways) however there will be no death star(no planet busting this time) but let’s just say it’s in development as of this moment.
Probably the stupidest design I’ve ever seen. Whether for freight or military purposes (especially military) the docks/ loading bays are completely impractical for fast/ efficient use. The 2 large main bays effectively bottleneck each other, & the smaller bays inside the ring are reduced in efficiency by requiring additional maneuvering around the core to access them (not to mention the problem of defense addressed in the vid). These bays would have served much better on the outside of the ring.
