Ways To Improve A Bathtub Without Having To Renovate?

This article provides a guide on how to update an old bathtub without replacing it. It discusses various methods for updating the bathtub, including cleaning and repair, replacing fixtures and hardware, refreshing caulk, refinishing the surface, installing a bathtub liner, upgrading the surrounding tiles, adding accessories and décor, and enhancing lighting and ambience.

One of the most common ways to update a bathtub without replacing it is by resurfacing it. This process involves adding color, new textiles, increasing shower pressure, rethinking grout, mixing metal finishes, upgrading lighting, hanging artwork, and adjusting the timber frame. To remove and replace the bath, you will likely need to remove the tiles in front of it and adjust the timber frame to support the new tub.

To update the walls, you can declutter the medicine cabinet, store towels, washcloths, extra toilet paper, and tissues in the bathroom closet, add a cubby or shelf to the shower, repaint the walls, switch out the hardware, replace the shower head, upgrade your shower curtain (and bathmat), improve lighting, and swap out the hardware.

If the tub itself is less the problem than outdated tiling around it, a new set of tiles or a fresh wall surround might be a good solution. Painting the bathtub with varnish is also a valid solution for those with limited time, budget, or simply wanting to renovate the bathroom’s look. Other options include installing gorgeous wall surrounds, replacing your bathroom vanity, adding storage in your bathroom, and painting the bathtub with varnish.

Can old bathtubs be resurfaced?

Bathtub refinishing takes 4 to 5 hours and takes an additional 1. 5 days to cure, which is crucial for a durable and long-lasting finish. Resurfacing costs an average of $459, while replacing a tub costs an average of $3, 020. However, resurfacing is not always the best solution for all bathtub repairs, as it does not address underlying issues. Bathtubs can last up to 20 years even after refinishing, especially when properly maintained.

Resurfacing is not the only solution for bathtub repairs, as underlying issues may need to be addressed. If repairs fail, it is inevitable that a new bathtub is needed. To have your bathtub looking like new, contact a professional bathtub repair company like 919-747-4800.

How to make a bathtub look modern?

Replace old tiles around the tub with new ones, choosing a color that complements the bathtub and the rest of the bathroom. This will instantly make the bathtub seem newer and cleaner. If you want to save money on retiling, consider using a rustoleum tub and tile refinishing kit or using baking soda and lemon juice to scrub away dirt marks and grime. Investing in a new bathtub liner is worth it as it brings a new and modern look at a fraction of the price compared to uninstalling and purchasing a new bathtub. Bathtub liners are made of high-quality acrylics and come in various colors and designs, allowing you to let your creative juices flow with this option.

To refresh your bathroom without complete renovation, consider updating your hardware, replacing your vanity, decluttering with storage, and integrating a luxurious bathroom upgrade. Hardware can make a significant statement in a bathroom, as it can show off the room’s style. Antiqued brass hardware can look great with exposed brick or traditional designs, while bright chrome can pop against dramatic wall colors or ultra-modern spaces. Mixing and matching hardware, such as a brass towel rack with bronze lighting, is an affordable and fun way to add a touch of elegance.

Another way to refresh your bathroom without renovating is by changing your faucet. There are numerous interesting faucet styles available, from minimalist and sculptural wall-mounted options to traditional nickel selections. Choosing a different finish than your hardware can create a modern look, but it’s recommended to have two to three different finishes in the room to maintain a cohesive, styled look.

In summary, updating your bathroom hardware, replacing your vanity, decluttering with storage, and integrating a luxurious bathroom upgrade are simple ways to give your bathroom a fresh look without breaking the bank.

  • Do you have to take out All the tile from the top of the tub to ceiling? Or can you just take out the 1st few rows of subway tiles? I have a partially renovated bathroom, but they kept the old cast iron(or maybe it’s porcelain) tub and it’s very shallow; I’d prefer a deeper tub. Just trying to see if the whole bathroom has to be re-renovated? The floor tiles around the tub were replaced too, so they’d probably have to come out too 😤
