📹 Do Eclectic Like a Pro: Use These Interior Design Tips
Is your taste in interior design and décor vast? Do you find you want to incorporate all your beautiful pieces into your home but …
What is European eclectic?
The European Eclectic style, which draws inspiration from Western European architectural traditions, is characterised by a number of distinctive features, including shallow roof overhangs, well-defined chimneys, recessed entry porches and vertically oriented windows.
What makes a room feel elegant?
To add sophistication and elegance to your home, consider adding antique elements such as clocks, vases, and paintings. These pieces can be found at antique stores or flea markets and add character to your space. However, choose antiques in good condition that complement your home’s style to avoid clutter.
Add color, pattern, and texture to your home with cushions made of silk or velvet. These materials add a touch of sophistication and make the space more inviting.
Add a floor lamp in the corner to provide extra light and tie the room together, giving it an elegant feel. By choosing antiques that are in good condition and complement your home’s style, you can create a visually appealing and inviting space.
What is the difference between eclectic and bohemian?
Eclectic décor is characterized by a neutral color scheme, with pops of color added through accessories, artwork, or textiles. It often incorporates vintage and antique furniture in a controlled and intentional way, while maintaining clean lines and simple shapes. This style is more playful and whimsical, while bohemian décor tends to embrace more organic, flowing shapes.
Eclectic décor often blends high-end pieces with more affordable finds, creating a stylish and accessible look. It may feature layered textures, such as velvet sofas paired with jute rug and fur throws, but they are intentionally layered for cohesiveness. In contrast, bohemian décor may feature more abstract or dreamy artwork or incorporate textiles or tapestries as wall hangings.
To make eclectic interior design work, it is essential to choose a unifying element, mix and match styles and eras, be intentional with placement, create balance, and don’t be afraid to break the rules. A haphazard arrangement can feel cluttered and chaotic, while a well-curated display can feel sophisticated and interesting.
Balancing different colors, textures, patterns, or types of furniture and accessories is crucial to prevent an eclectic interior design from feeling overwhelming. Breaking the rules and trying something new can lead to unique and unexpected designs. Overall, eclectic interior design is a fun and creative way to decorate your home, but it can also be challenging to achieve the desired outcome.

What is eclectic interior design style?
Eclectic interior design is a unique and personalized style that blends different eras, styles, textures, and colors to create a unique and personalized look. It allows for creativity and freedom in choosing pieces, as there are no strict rules to follow. The word “eclectic” derives from the Greek word eklecktikos, meaning “to select”. To achieve an eclectic look, start by selecting a suitable color palette, such as yellow, green, ochre, turquoise, or red. A more subdued assortment of colors can give a peaceful and comfortable feel, while a brighter combination brings high energy and a sense of fun.
Add pattern and color to your room withrugs and wallpaper, characterized by bold colors and repetitive images. A Palais printed rug is a whimsical addition, while an accent wall picture frame can make a statement in any room. Molding like 123 Base Cap can be used to design rectangular or square panels for a timeless addition.
Eclectic interior design is most aligned with subsections of the style, such as boho eclectic or glam eclectic. Boho eclectic uses a texture-filled and nature-inspired palette, while glam eclectic uses deep colors and elegant statement pieces. Both can overlap, creating a dreamy feel with patterned canopy over a bed, end tables with greenery and odd trinkets, and contrasting pillows for visual weight.
How to design a bohemian room?
Boho bedroom décor incorporates a variety of elements, including hanging plants, earthy tones, low-lying furniture, vintage and global accents, natural elements, colorful textiles, and eclectic art. These elements are combined in a personalized, free-spirited space that blends vintage and global influences, resulting in a unique and stylish look.
How to make your guest room luxurious?

What is eclectic dress code?
An eclectic outfit is a collection of various pieces that don’t have to go together in any way, shape, or form. This freedom of expression and style is often ridiculed and looked down upon, but Carrie Bradshaw’s closet exemplifies eclectic fashion. The fear of making a mistake often stops people from taking chances in life and fashion. To make the fashion risk easier, there are three steps to create an eclectic outfit:
- Start slowly by starting with a theme of contrast, which is about mixing multiple fabrics, colors, patterns, and prints. Mixing multiple fabrics, colors, patterns, and prints is all about opposites. The easiest way to start is by making each piece work with one another, not every item should go together, but they can work in pairs. To make it all come together, throw in a completely random accessory. This approach allows for a more relaxed and adventurous approach to fashion.
What are the colors of eclectic?
An eclectic design style is defined by a diverse color palette, encompassing a range of hues from red to green, yellow, turquoise, ochre, and grey. There are no specific rules governing the selection of colors or materials. Deriving from the Greek term “eklektos,” meaning “select the best,” this style presents a synthesis of influences from diverse historical and cultural contexts, enabling the formation of a distinctive and individualized style.
How do I maximize my guest room?
To maximize your guest bedroom’s floor plan, consider the following tips:
- Downsize the bed to create more space;
- Remove unnecessary items;
- Maximize storage with innovative furniture;
- Decorate with light colors to make the room feel bigger;
- Use mirrors to make small rooms seem bigger;
- Keep décor to a minimum;
- Use wall space;
- Add a cozy rug;
These tips can help make your guest bedroom a more spacious and comfortable space for you and your guests. By following these tips, you can create a more comfortable and functional guest room that can host friends and family during the holidays.
What is the difference between boho and bohemian design?
Urban boho is a style that combines elements of bohemian design, such as rattan, macramé, and ethnic patterns on pillows and rugs, with modern and unexpected elements. This style is distinct from classical bohemian interiors and can be achieved by adding modern touches. To create a modern boho home, one must first define boho style and answer the question “what is boho style?”. Doğtaş, a modern furniture store, has compiled a list of to-do lists for creating a boho home.
📹 BEDROOM MAKEOVER *Vintage Eclectic & Cozy* + DIY Wall Length Headboard!
Today we are continuing work on the Guest Bedroom Makeover! In last weeks video we finished the painting, wallpaper and …
Hi there,I’m in Adelaide, Australia. I’m 68,a Nanna and Great Nan. I’ve been perusal you for about 3 years and I have to tell you that I love everything you do ….but….. the guest bedroom you have just finished is my favourite! Probably because it is an older style decor as well as green being my favourite colour. You are a very talented young man and you are creating a beautiful home. You should be very proud of yourself😊 Well done🎉
How such a young man has such a mature, sophisticated eye is beyond me. What intuition and understanding of interior spaces, never forgetting scale, lighting or texture – common mistakes for novices. It’s not just filling a room with pretty things but addressing what makes a room “polished” and magazine worthy. In my book, you’re AD 100 certified.
Okay, I have to admit….I hated almost every item in this room individually, aside from the dresser, the chandelier and the curtain rods. I was questioning every choice you made. Then the reveal came and my mind was absolutely blown by how well everything worked together. The room looks incredible and inviting, and your vision really sings in this room. I was actually gobsmacked by how much I liked it. So, I’m here to say I was so wrong. This is why I’m not a designer, because never in a million years could I have envisioned such a room. So well done! Your guests are so very lucky.
I love grandmacore lol it’s so cozy and calming, it reminds me of a happy childhood I’ve never had – like clean laundry hanging under the sun and delicious cookies freshly baked by a loving grandma, so I’m glad the style is having such a big comeback and I’m definitely taking some inspo for my own space ❤
Do you know what I love best about your makeovers? The way you stick to design on a dime, real people affordable style, using things like those bargain priced high-end nightstands (I mean, who has that kind of $$, nearly $6K, for 2 nightstands??, c’mon man), finding a great priced beautiful dresser, and making your own designer headboard. Please don’t lose this as I’ve seen other YouTubers do ….
To me, this room has a very strong Laura Ashley vibe with the printed wall paper, wood work painted a strong complementary color and traditional elements including some ruffles on the pillow shams. The only exception is the light fixture. The overall look seems like it could be part of a home on an estate in the UK.
Love this room. The wall-length headboard really looks great. The wallpaper and Eastlake dresser are amazing together. Like the texture and length of the curtains too. For me, the chandelier with their funky globes and the rug a nice both have an energy that is different than the rest of the room. You did a super job!
There are no words about how I felt during the reveal. Even though I watched step by step as the room came together, I wasn’t prepared for how the room welcomes you in wanting you to cozy in and stay. You did so many unexpected things here, the wallpaper, the lively green paint, the black rope trim. I don’t know what magic you have that you find such amazing pieces for unheard of prices. How to pick a favorite? The nightstands, the lamps, the dresser and mirror? Each a treasure by itself. The headboard is beautiful and anchors the room, along with the rug and curtains, they bring such warmth to the room. God has blessed you with a mind that creates beauty.
The sail boat/steamer picture reminds me of days gone by when off the coast of California they had floating casinos. Some of these maritime vessels shuttled people to and from Catalina Island. This was during the 20s The lady in the small painting reminds me of a lady of the 20’s. The Etching; the trees could be native to California, long before it became what it is today. So nice to watch Drew capture the history of California. I wonder Drew are you a spirit from days gone by a previous resident of California. Drew. Read John Stienbeck. East of Eden, Travels with Charley, and many more. Make sure you get a few of his books to add to your decor. Your guest would appreciate it. God Bless😘.
A small thing, but one I just did on the chandelier over our kitchen table, was to replace the darker color, dingier looking candle sleeves for each light bulb with white candle sleeves, especially since your wallpaper background is white. It’s amazing how refreshed the chandelier looks afterwards. The ones I replaced were not only dingy, but had the fake wax-drip look on them. Inexpensive, easy update. Love your room transformations, Drew!
omgomgomg After months of perusal you and being so in awe of your taste and design decisions, like I could never do that myself, you picked the same seascape and frame from Target that I did! Maybe I have taste after all, (or maybe yours has just rubbed off on me lol) Beautiful room as always Drew, and the piping!?!! Inspired!!!!
Your dresser is a very similar style to mine which I purchased for £50, mine has a Mahogany top though and I love it. All my bedroom furniture is antique mahogany, my friends thought I was mad because they were all buying cheap modern furniture but I live in a Victorian house so it was in keeping with the home. I will never part with it. The best buy was my Mahogany bed and footboard, a steal at £10 !!
I love it! I know “Grandmacore” is the trendy thing to label this, but for me it is THE quintessential elegance and it’s it’s so REAL! It’s not affected, or overdone, or pretentious. It’s as if you walked back in time to when real people furnished and decorated with real, functional, exquisitely crafted home goods. I would want my whole LIFE to express this value system. Well done, Drew! I will say while the ceiling is probably traditional, it feels stark. Maybe in your travels you can find some tasty mouldings or something to fancy it up. Perhaps it could be a different white that doesn’t stick out. The wallpaper is outstanding. Lastly, it would be enchanting to find a couple of vintage-y bathrobes for guests. I’d be over the moon to wear an og robe and sleep in that room.
New to YouTube, I have fallen in love with your website 💗 I love your style and design. And I’m getting wonderful ideas on how to decorate my ADU. Just a quick question, I’m horrible with color. Example shades of grey, green and purple can look all the same. Any suggestions on how help distinguish color?
So fun fact about your dresser: it’s probably worth more than you even paid for it! During the 1800’s Cincy was the 5th largest city and a huge exporter of many goods, including furniture just like that piece!! — and artisans from all over came to Cincy to help build that furniture. There were a few families in Cincy known for their quality and craftsmanship, and while I cannot for the life of me recall the name of the family that piece looks to have been made by, it looks JUST like pieces on display in the Cincinnati Art Museum (free to enter, btw — def worth a visit if you’re in town!!) (My guess is it’s one of the makers who wasn’t hit by the massive flood…I think that was 1832 or 1834? Your piece came after that, I think you said..? A lot of the furniture companies got hit hard and wiped out by that flood though.) As for the room: LOVE how it’s turned out!! I liked the green enough but I can understand why you wanted to swap. Personally, I got super excited when you were considering pink — I imagined a taupey sort of desaturated salmony pink, or like a desaturated blush pink… still, love how it turned out!! It’s a pity the layout with those windows prevented you from doing the headboard and bed in a better “command position” (feng shui), but considering the windows and doors and all of that, you put it in the best spot available — and that headboard and everything is just ~chef’s kiss~ glorious!!! 💖👻🖤
Your house was full of beautiful antique light fixtures, so I am confused about the choice for this room. I love the light fixture, but I think the overall style in the room needs to skew a bit more eclectic for it to fit. Perhaps the chair needs to be more vintage rather than antique looking. One advantage of the light fixture is that it certainly will give off more light than the more antique fixtures, which is nice for guests.
Drew, you did a really great job capturing a feeling with this room, as if it were first decorated in the thirties and was well loved as it was gradually updated. It isn’t giving one particular style but more a feeling that I am in a home that has been loved and cared for for a long time. It’s almost as if I can feel the generations of family who have been here. It’s as if you are attuning us to what it has meant to be part of the American community for the last 90 years. Welcomed, at home, storied, loved. Really special and resonant. ❤
Wow, just wow! This room reminds me of my grandmother’s sewing basket!! I would love to see the ceiling done in a rich chocolate velvet materia! It’s the dark of the wood that needs to married to the walls and ceilings. Pull out the depth of the room, the rounded corners, by going dark on the ceiling. 🌞🌻🌻🌻🌻
Brilliant revision color for the ceiling — I would trust your aesthetic w my life. Or, my dream home. Y DREW: Your curtains read like TEMPLETON PINK, on my device. Maybe your original impulse (always) was the correct one after all. My grandparents bought a home in 1931. Coved ceiling, kind of Spanish Revival-Welsh Cottage-Craftsman architecture). They had that precise color on their bedroom ceiling for decades (freshly repainted, of course. It was a lovely ceiling to sleep under. You’re a good one, Mr. Drew & darling companions, both Justin & cutie woofie.ASTLAKE is one of my top 3 furniture styles of all time. Gorgeous.
All of us here wondering how on earth you’re going to pull it off…but then you do and we are all so impressed!! That’s how I am too… my family can’t see the vision in my head when I’m decorating and designing spaces and often midway they’ll be like “ummm no it’s not gonna work… that’s hideous… I hate this or that…”, but when I’m done they’re like “OHHHHHH, that’s what you were doing! NIIIICEEEEE!!! I get it now!!” 😂 #TrusttheProcess
Cream ceiling change was a good move.👍 A friendly, unsolicited observation/pov…😊 — Not sure what the purpose was for covering the wall with a headboard when the bed isn’t that big. Also, wall mounting prevents easily rearranging room in the future, to freshen it up and prevent boredom over time. — Night stand lamps scale is much too small, especially with the expanse of the headboard. — Smaller pictures hung in grouping is OK, but hanging askew instead of across the expanse of the headboard, higher on the wall and more vertical, makes it look over-busy and crammed into the headboard. Low hung pictures above headboards can accidentally be knocked about with pillows. — Small heart stool seems out of place, useless. Overall, a welcoming, modernized Victorianesque guest room. Would keep scale of accessories in mind to prevent cluttered/cramped look in rooms with large chandeliers and wall furniture accents. Last suggestion– cutting back on unnecessary word qualifiers such as “basically”, “actually” and “like” is advisable, especially in long articles.😉
I am converted to this wallpaper, as I expected. I was all team tulips, but the background this floral block pattern created, and the green…😍😍😍 This is such a sweet and cozy little guest room. The taupes and oatmeals really pull the space together. And Drew, you’re such a master of layering texture. P. S. LOVE that chandelier and those table lamps.
I actually teared up at the reveal .I’ve been a fan for quite awhile You and MaCenna are beyond talented. I can’t compare but LOVE everything either one of you buy,build, create, thrift,fix, build,flip,paint or decorate and,now,wallpaper. You were born with an innate gift for design and lucky for us you’ve chosen to share your inspiration and ideas with us. This house you have purposely curated is out of this world. Green is my favorite color (any shade ) I know it’s there but I think painting the ceiling quieted down the room from screaming green. If that makes sense You’re simply brilliant and I just thought I’d say so. Blessings .
Wow, stunning! That dresser is to die for. And the light fixture!! And I love the wallpaper and the green trim. How will the green paint on those window cranks hold up, though? I didn’t even know you could paint that type of trim! I would have kept the other painting for the center instead of that boat one, but other than that I loved everything you chose. (Yes, that was me shouting “NOOO!” from the other side of Pasadena when you swapped out the painting). 😉 I think your only problem is that when guests visit they aren’t going to want to leave that room.
Great job as always! I’m concerned about the leather beside tables because they can be easily ruined by a sweating drinking glass plunked down on it’s surface. One of your over large circle stone pieces would hopefully solve that problem and be so beautiful in the pink stone. If it were me I’d get a stone tray the same size as the table top with flannel underneath. Total protection from any spills. Which do happen on bedside tables 😅
It feels like you’ve stepped back in time here to and early 1900s farm house! Something about the East Lake dresser, bedspread, wallpaper and floors, I actually gasped “wow” when I saw it. The light in that room is fantastic and just adds so much to the atmosphere. Really unexpected given the vibe of the rest of the house but you absolutely knocked it out of the park. Kudos to you Drew.
Yayyy.. been waiting on this article! That’s one massive headboard!😮And gorgeous too!! I did love the green ceiling, but i agree with the paint color change, brightens it up a bit. And looking at it from the reveal it really beautiful. (Putting the wall paper up there would have been a bit too busy i think.) The curtains are so pretty, they look really good! What A steal on the nightstands!😮 I love the lamps, the shades are awesome! I love to collect old lamps, love putting them all around my home! There’s just something about lamp lighting 🤷♀️ I’ve always wanted an antique marble top dresser.. another steal! I say it every time.. And I’m saying it again.. Another perfect space, another gorgeous room!! This house just gets better & better! If I ever get out there i want an in person tour!😄 You always nail it!
Drew, yours decorating projects get better and better. What in imagination, skill, and how you visualize is amazing. I know it’s a Spanish house, but this room gives me Victorian vibes. I love it. The green ceiling looked good, but this color looks great with the wallpaper! Once again, you have done it!!! ❤ 🙏
It’s so ELEGANT in an understated, humble, timeless way. Love this one sooo much! I feel like it was a journey perusal, definitely a labor of love. It’s cheery and cozy and everything just fits together so perfectly wow. That dresser was a score. The bedding, the lamp, omg the walls! P.s idk if you see it but the art looks like outside the ship, the ship itself, and the lady inside the ship! I thought that was so cool. You should feel very proud of yourself Drew! P.p.s I adore seeing Winnie, I blow kisses when his little face hits the screen, can’t help it. ❤❤
Crazy amazing!😍 😎👑 fit for royalty! So beautiful and sophisticated! My goodness you keep out doing yourself. I love the full headboard. And the leather end tables, I guess I could go on and say the black cord trim is also a favorite of mine! But everything is too. Its just so lovely and cozy!watch out no guests are going to want to leave!!⛪ you have created the perfect guest palace!
Wow great room. The only thing I would have done differently is the black trim on top of the headboard. I would have used the black piping to not add a think horizontal black line across the room. That aside, for the first time ever I am actually going to try one of your DIYs! I’m doing a headboard! Exactly like this… minus the black trim. Not sure how I’ll over up the gap now that I think about it… I’ll figure it out.
This is so incredibly beautiful and I think this is seriously my favourite modern day take on the vintage aesthetic everyone has been going for. It’s totally what you’d imagine a grandmothers, cozy cottage bedroom for guests to look like. It also reminds me a lot of the aesthetic from Emma Roberts house tour that I know you loved! (Except better?!)
