📹 Meryl Streep Meets Anna Wintour at Vogue
The pair had a frank and far-ranging conversation filled with humor and insight. Much is revealed in the interview above, between …
LOL, so funny when it’s so OBVIOUS that Meryl wanted to say: “Miranda Priestly……” and Anna was like: “No, we will NOT talk about when you played me.” However, OF COURSE Miranda Priestly was probably a fun release of a role for her. I mean, Sophie in Sophie’s Choice, Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Woman, and so many more. Meryl Streep has been in just about EVERYTHING.
Meryl is an actress and she’s a kind of a person that is direct, precise and sharp. Also, she is so used to be talking to different kinds of people with interviews, exposure and etc. but I’m sure that Anna does too but just in a different way. Meryl does not go around the bushes. She talks on a topic on point and she’s very clear on the subject on what she wants to say. Unlike Anna, she’s not shy. Both Meryl and Anna are strong and powerful women but different. Anna is a journalist, a writer and she’s more of a person that is reserved and takes time to structure their words and they are very good observant and deep thinkers. Look at the matter of how she ask questions. You’ll know it. It’s not because they have nothing to say but there’s a lot of things going on in their minds at once and it’s a mess. It’s hard to look eye to eye contact because they get distracted and get lost on what they are supposed to say. I am actually of the latter. If you see people that you meet and talk with them and they look the other way when they are talking, please don’t judge too harshly or quickly. They are trying to construct and reconstruct their thoughts and how to relay it in a matter that is understandable and relatable for everyone. Elon Musk is actually one of them. As a matter of fact, I’ve seen the debate of Elon Musk and Jack Ma about AI in Mars. Both are brilliant but there’s a lot of difference between the two of them. Jack Ma is well spoken but doesn’t seem to really get the idea of the vision of the future that Elon has in mind.
The part that struck me most: “I wish my mother were alive to see it.” In the end, that’s what it comes down to: we want to make our mothers proud…no matter whether what we’ve been called to do is in the glaring light of publicity or in a humble part of the world serving a neglected community. You’re living your best life if Mom would look at it and conclude that she had done a good job raising you, that all her sacrifices were worth the while.
I find the atmosphere so charged neither of them can be herself. Meryl more theatrical than usual and Anna talking as if she were reading a script. Two formidable, incredible women. If the interview took longer they might have had a chance to relax into it and be more themselves rather than feeding the expectations of others and possibly each other. Still, a great meeting of two great minds!
I do love the idea of Meryl raising daughters – she is the best role model. She’s right – you want to bring up the next generation of women to feel free to be themselves, it’s a fine line between ‘preparing’ them and ‘scaring’ them. I think things are moving in the right direction, but it’s sad that we’re not there yet.
I love these two women and what they represent for feminism. Perhaps “The Devil Wears Prada” was sexist when she made Anna Wintour look ruthless for being incredibly powerful and talented. If a man were to take her job, he would not be judged in the same way. But anyway, I loved the movie and what it stands for. I wish power was equitable and without sexist stereotypes.
I do want to say that Meryl Streep is definitely not an overrated actor. When I saw “Sophie’s Choice” I saw Sophie…I never saw Meryl Streep ever throughout that film…I was totally mesmerized by Sophie. I knew that that was THE MOST amazing acting…it wasn’t even acting, she transcended herself…body, mind and soul beyond words. I just couldn’t believe it. I haven’t seen an actor portray a character like that since. EVER! I also felt that way about Mary Tyler Moore’s role as Beth in “Ordinary People.” That was EXTRA-ordinary. Every time I see Beth in that film I want to scream and throw something at the television, she makes me so angry. She was so self-absorbed in her own denial.
…oh my, that was the most staged, pretentious and effete ‘chat’ I have heard in a long time…’Cue…action’…”…you should run for office” takes glasses off and plays with hair and adds “…you shoooood” …”oh NO, I think yooooooo should” looks down coyly in studied reverence …seriously…people actually listen to this and believe the actors are sincere?
Meryl Streep’s positivity to all of Anna questions was so refreshing. For example instead of Anna’s view of award season being “political” or “restraint” Meryl retorted with people being more “aware”. Loved her positive spin. Meryl was also inclusive in answering that BOTH men and women have difficulty in standing up for the truth.
two of the most beautiful, empowering, stong, classy, hardworking, and inspiring women in the world speaking together about important things so eloquently.. such a great article. “thank you, anna. i wish my mother were alive to see it. thank you.” meryl streep, why u gotta pull at my heart strings like that 😭💗
I like how Meryl Streep didn’t try to dress too hard for the meeting. Both women have left huge marks in their respective industries and careers and both have received the highest of awards to their success but Meryl coming with her clothing style like that? Wow, what a contrast to Anna’s personal style.
This was fascinating. Having watched both women iinterviewed with not so friendly interviewers, the energy dynamic between these two, was enticing. So much power each holds in their fields and though they are both aware of it, there is no wall or stiffness created by it. In fact they have a playfulness about it…which was the most intriguing.
Very cute and fun little 5 minutes! However, unless a person has some kind of “eye condition, or over sensitivity to light”, I think these folks….Whomever they may be, Hollywood, Music, Oh I truly don’t care who, but it is BEYOND RIDICULOUS for a person to sit around in these HUGE SUNGLASSES, when they are inside and especially when speaking to others. I don’t care if you’re “The” Anna Wintour, or Jayz. It’s SELF-SERVING, Arrogant, Overly ostentatious, and frankly just plain RUDE!
I just saw The DEvil Wears Prada in which the Miranda character played so Brilliantly by Meryl Streep is based on Anna Wintour. I don’t remembr that MIranda character ever doing any journalism, ever doing any interviews with Politicians or even Celebrities just Fashion stuff- no Political stuff except for Corporate Back-Stabbing Politics.
The only feedback that I would have is that I don’t like that they shot Meryl Streep in a downward angle during the conversation, I feel like it should’ve been levelled the same as Anna Wintour since they are both legends. Also, I really want to fix Meryl Streep’s blouse, it’s giving me OCD. Edit: That’s all.

I don’t doubt that Meryl Streep is knowledgeable in some areas, but this is so scripted, so heavily edited, that they seem clueless. Would they have so few useful things to say if they weren’t just bouncing pre-prepared statements off each other? I’m reminded of what Ricky Gervais said: “celebrities, your political views don’t matter; you have lost touch with reality so long ago, what you have to say about normal life doesn’t matter”
