Vacuuming Dust Out Of Window Coverings?

The cleaning of window treatments involves regular, light dusting, using a microfiber tool like a cloth, glove or duster, and vacuuming with a soft brush attachment. The frequency of cleaning depends on the material, design, and orientation of the window treatments, as well as how quickly dust accumulates.

For horizontal blinds, the process is the same but with a side-to-side wipe from the top slat to the bottom slat. For large doors or windows, glide your vacuum dust-brush tool over the panels to keep them fresh. Spray cleaner and cotton socks are also effective for dusting blinds without removing them from the window frame.

To clean blinds with soap, remove them from the window and wash them in your bathtub. Use a vacuum with a hose and upholstery brush attachment to easily dust the blinds. If you don’t have an appropriate vacuum, you can also dust the blinds by wiping down each slat with a soft cloth with mild soap and warm water.

For fabric shades, curtains, or drapes, lightly dust or vacuum with the upholstery attachment. Use a soft cloth with mild soap and warm water to spot clean. For Roman shades, dust or vacuum to remove dirt. If washable, remove all dowels from flat shades and leave strings attached. Wash according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

In summary, proper care for window treatments includes regular, light dusting, using a microfiber tool, vacuuming with a soft brush attachment, and spot cleaning. Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for maintaining the appearance and longevity of window treatments.

  • Thank you so much! I have 10 windows in my living room alone. I had finished 3 windows when I decided to Google “cleaning venetian blinds without taking them down.” I have no bathtub (just had a modern bathroom installed), and this method saved my life. Finished the other 7 windows in record time. They are sparkling clean.

  • The method that works best for my cleaning of blinds is using Clorox wipes. The wipes do a superb job of cleaning and I can get in between the strings that support the blinds structure as well as do both sides at once. I just grip the wipes by my hands. Everything smells very clean and sterile. Cleaning goes very quickly.

  • Those new “dusters” looks like cut up dryer sheets on a stick. I find them useless. I still find the “feather dusters” sprayed with pledge of better use for those in between dusting for blinds. However, I love the tongs method for cleaning blinds this is the most practical I’ve seen in my search. This is the article I was looking for, thank you, my search is over.

  • I need to clean a really really dirty refrigerator and more importantly bathroom. I try to get small homes and make money off of them. I tried to do the cleaning myself but in this case the bathroom is a disaster zone. Any advice? The regular type cleaning stuff just isn’t doing the job on the walls and the shower floor. I don’t want to discolor the walls because there’s really nothing wrong with them. I think there were some squatters living there for a while before I got it and they were just using it whatever way. Help please. I’m going to subscribe anyway but if anybody can help me with this please let me know cuz I’m kind of new to the whole buying homes and trying to make money and fixing things myself

  • Well dang you mean to tell me I been looking at my humungous long set of liveing room vinal blinds for a few weeks trying to figure how to tackle them the easiest and that’s alllllllllll you gotta do? 😒😒🙄wow. They are so long and thick I hate to even tackle them . No problem now. I’ve been trying to cme up with all these tricks and trades. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂they are a bummer to even take down so thanks.

  • I’m confused, did this guy just show people how to take a rag and wipe the dust off some blinds? Do they know you can use this same wiping method to clean their kitchen counter, wash their car, and their bodies? How did they clean all these things before? In the comments everyone is writing about how helpful this article was. I doubt if everyone is being sarcastic.
