President-elect Donald Trump has officially nominated Montana Congressman Ryan Zinke (R-MT), a retired Navy SEAL commander, as his pick for the position of Interior Secretary. Zinke, who served under then-President Donald Trump and resigned in 2019 amid an ethics probe, won the Republican Party nomination for the position. The 55-year-old Montana Republican will oversee over 20 of US federal land and will report to the president of the United States.
The secretary is a member of the United States Cabinet and reports to the president of the United States. Zinke, who was a former secretary of the U.S. Interior Department under then-President Donald Trump, stepped down in 2018 amid ethics probes. A transition official said Zinke has a mixed record on conservation and energy policy.
In announcing the nomination of Zinke, Trump praised his military background and praised his military background. He also mentioned that there will likely be many familiar faces returning to the position. Zinke was nominated on December 13, 2016, and confirmed on March 1, 2017. He later resigned from the position on January 2, 2019.
The Senate has confirmed all 22 of President Trump’s Cabinet-level nominees, with one failing. Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, Commerce, and Wilbur Ross are among the 22 nominees.
