📹 How to Start Your Own Cleaning Business in 2024
Introducing how to start your own cleaning business in 2024. 4 steps to start your own cleaning business and make huge amount …
How do I clean the inside of my house?
Deep cleaning is a crucial process for maintaining a clean and tidy home. To avoid overwhelming yourself, break the process down into smaller, manageable tasks. This deep house-cleaning guide provides six basic tasks to start with, followed by room-specific chores. This checklist is useful before hosting guests or when daily clutter accumulates. It can also be followed as part of your annual cleaning regimen in the spring or fall.
To begin the deep cleaning process, declutter each room and find a new place for any visible clutter. Save the items behind closed doors for another day to simplify the checklist. Clearing clutter makes deep cleaning easier and seeing tidy surfaces can boost motivation to continue. This whole-home cleaning checklist is useful before hosting guests or when daily clutter accumulates. By following these steps, you can achieve a clean and tidy home that can pass a white-glove inspection.
What is typically included in a deep clean?
A normal cleaning session involves vacuuming and cleaning surfaces, while a deep clean involves moving furniture, ornaments, and kitchen appliances to thoroughly clean the entire home. Deep cleaning is essential for removing bacteria, grime, pet hair, and dust from the property. It involves moving furniture, ornaments, and kitchen appliances to dust shelving and clean underneath them. While regular cleaning sessions keep the home looking good, deep cleaning ensures that all visible surfaces are clean and tidy. Deep cleaning goes deeper into the cracks, under cabinets, and furniture, removing everything to maintain a clean and organized home.
What type of cleaning is the most profitable?
Starting a commercial cleaning business can be a lucrative venture, but it can also be challenging due to the highly competitive industry. Commercial cleaning is the most profitable type of business due to the high demand and potential for significant revenue. Commercial cleaning jobs typically have higher budgets and involve cleaning office buildings, schools, hospitals, factories, and warehouses. Specialty cleaning businesses, on the other hand, focus on cleaning services that require specialized skills or equipment, such as crime scene cleaning, mold remediation, and hoarding cleanup.
These businesses have a niche market, may require specialized training or certifications, and can offer higher prices, substantial profit margins, and a smaller market for these services. In conclusion, determining which type of cleaning business has the potential to make the most money is crucial for business owners to maximize their chances of success.

Such a fun and interactive way to know more about cleaning business! Here’s our take on this. If you want to make it in this industry, you need to know how to do more than just clean. You want people to trust you to their home or business and allow you inside their property while they’re away. That is why the number one piece of advice you need to consider is to perform background checks on potential hires. This is to ensure the safety of your business, your workplace, and especially, the welfare of your clients.
I can’t imagine leaving a home in that state. I’m so sorry you had to deal with that. I never considered myself to be a clean-freak, but I must be. I have a check list of cleaning tasks that need to be done weekly, monthly, or twice a year. The list is broken into 15-30 minute tasks. Each day, I pick two tasks. Once in a great while, I’ll need to spend more than an hour (never more than two) cleaning. Most days, it’s not over 45 minutes. By the end of each task’s timeline, it’s done. I used to do a spring and a fall deep clean, but I always dreaded them. The task list method helps me keep my house clean without being overwhelmed.
Great Job, Ladies! New sub here. I’ve always deep cleaned my apartments when I moved out. My landlords were amazed and I’ve been told that “No one does that.” I also deep clean apartments before I move my things into it. Like others have said in the comments, you should treat and care for things that aren’t yours better than you treat and care for your own things. Guess it’s just the way we were raised, with respect for others and their things?
You actually clean the top of the cabinets! My landlord hired cleaners to do a move-in clean after the last tenant left it dirty. The place needed a deep clean and they just did a basic maintenance clean. The kitchen needed so much work, I did a MUCH better job myself after they left! Love to see you giving so much love to these new tenants.
One tip I heard on another cleaning website and I thought was brilliant…… she lays pieces of wax paper on top of the kitchen cabinets so there is no greasy dusty build up, she just picks up the wax paper, gives things a wipe and puts new wax paper down….cheap and saves so much cleaning time and products ! Blessings
I read a story once about ladies who cleaned with Lysol. They prided themselves on the fact that if someone came to their house they could smell Lysol because it indicates their house was clean. For myself, I got cancer at the age of 46, I began researching cleaning products that have cancer causing chemicals. I was shocked. Bleach for instance is so incredibly toxic. If used properly it’s not so bad, but we tend to overuse it. I also became extremely sensitive to scents. So I must be very careful of anything that has artificial scents added. I admire how deeply you clean this place, I must tell you I do not believe I’ve ever moved into a very clean place like this. I always found something needing to be cleaned.
I use baking soda in a bowl with a few drops of essential oil. Just leave it out for 12-24 hrs. A tip I got from my mom (who was a housekeeper for 40 yrs) was to cut an onion in 1/2 & place where needed. Onions absorb odor, then toss. Bonus tip…if your rice burned a little, toss a 1/2 onion in it so your rice doesn’t have that burned smell/taste. Hispanic moms are the 💣 Love your content!
Re: smell. From post-move out tenant cleaning experience, I think the smell you encountered may have been from maggots. I once cleaned a house with a fly problem where the smell wouldn’t go away no matter how clean all surfaces were. Turned out, there were maggots behind the baseboards. Once we removed all the baseboards and cleaned underneath, the smell finally disappeared.
I rented a 3-bedroom 2-bath mobile home for two years and I did such a deep clean when I moved out the landlord’s were extremely surprised because they’ve never had anybody clean the way I did, told me when most tenants move out that usually replace carpets and everything else but with me they didn’t have to do that. They gave me back my deposit within a week with a letter of thank you for keeping the house so clean. And I didn’t have to clean the dishwasher because I hate using a dishwasher I think dishwashers are nasty so when I moved out the paperwork was still in the new dishwasher
My landlords NEVER had to clean my apartments when I moved out. I was taught that you take better care of “borrowed” goods than you do your own and leave it cleaner than when you got it. The thought of leaving my dirt behind for someone else to clean is unacceptable. My landlords loved me. Fast forward to age 69 with progressive osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. I need help cleaning but can’t bear the thought of someone else doing it. My hubby just doesn’t have the same standards I have so I try to do things myself and spend 2 days to a week recovering. Anyhow, the landlord occupation is not for me because people just don’t care like they used to…
I haven’t watched any cleaning v ideos but interestingly this popped up on my feed a week after I discovered my former brother-in-law hermit dead in his house… (I’m the only family he had left that EVER visited / checked on him since my ex died) … and it smelled horrible when I found him. I was told by a retired firefighter to put white vinegar in plastic or glass bowls all over the house and change it out every few days to rid my BIL’s house of the dead smell. I haven’t done any cleaning yet, but the vinegar has helped, so I can get in there to start cleaning… I think I will try this Zep when I start cleaning. I KNOW this is totally off subject for this article – BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A WILL IN PLACE and it is current – even if it is totally hand written AND signed/dated (you don’t have to have an attorney create one for you).
Years ago I moved into a, “clean it yourself house and you don’t have to pay the security deposit” 😁 The kitchen walls were so dirty and greasy they were brown. That’s the 1st time I used “Grease Lightning” and witnessed the most powerful grease cutter ever! The grease on the walls just melted off it was the craziest thing to see. Also used it on the windows that were so brown and filmy from cigarette smoke and obvious years of not cleaning and same thing happened, it just melted away 😁
I cleaned a rental that was full of flies. The reason was they didnt take out the trash and flies had laid eggs in some chicken scraps in the trash. The eggs hatched and the maggots had crawled out the trash over the floor into and under every thing in the kitchen where they had hatched into flies which were all trapped in the house. It was gross. You guys are the best!
I use to deep clean rental properties and it is a lot of work when you ACTUALLY clean the entire environment! I always start from the top, and work my way down. The most difficult part for me was bidding on jobs because there was almost always more than expected on the surface. I always took things apart as far as I could to get to the deepest parts. Like ovens, at 19:02 that bottom looks like it comes out. You can clean it easier and then clean underneath that where the oven cleaner and other crumbs and juices) drips through! I would also run the oven at 350 for about a half an hour to “bake-out” the oven cleaner smell, and any cleaner/debris I missed would be easier to see for a final touch up as well. Do you do that as well? So awesome to see a like-minded deep-cleaner who puts in the effort like you do!
I am so happy I don’t have to deal with tenants anymore, most of them just don’t care about your property, and they live like pigs!! I felt for you while perusal this article, I’ve been there, killing myself, scrubbing and cleaning filth left behind by tenants. BTW, In my home I move, and clean behind my appliances three times a year. You did a great job 🙂.
Thank you so much for taking great care and showing consideration to the next tenants moving in. You don’t know them, their situation or circumstances but you treated them with kindness and respect by cleaning so thoroughly. If everyone showed the same type of humanity and decency this world would be a better place 👍🏾 Thanks for all your efforts! You never know the impact you’ve had on the people who have used the places you cleaned! 💖
Great job cleaning ladies! I just finished last week cleaning my kitchen the same way. My husband pulls my fridge out so I can clean behind, underneath and on top of it. The same for the stove, oven and lift the top and clean under the top. Washed all the cabinets and baseboards. Anything and everything gets cleaned, it’s such a good feeling.
I read where you can take like a hand grater like for cheese or finer than cheese, and after you clean the windowsills, grate a small amount of Irish Spring soap down onto the windowsill and the bugs won’t come back. I haven’t tried this yet but I’m looking forward to this. Hope this helps. Thank you for the taking the time to show us your products also, because I am not a good housekeeper and I need all the help I can get but I can’t afford to hire anybody. However if you’re in San Antonio let me know and I will definitely hire you. I will find the money
I spent over 10 days cleaning my last vacant apartment that the tenant left. It was filthy, I finally had to hire someone to help me, she was awesome. We found rice under the refrigerator, stuck on the cabinets and under the stove. Question, did your mom return the deposit? I had to have the cabinets redone because of the grease, what a mess. I wonder how people can live like that.
I noticed you used a brush from a dust pan and brush set to clean the side of the cooker. Can you please explain why you used this rather then a sponge or cloth? Personally I move my cooker & fridge out every week when I clean my floors but that’s only because I have two JRT (Jack Russell Terriers) who love to play with they biscuits and the go everywhere! However, as much as I would love to move the washing machine out to clean behind and underneath it, it’s such a tight fit and so heavy I physically can’t move it and I don’t have anyone to move it for me, so I’ve improvised and put a guard up at the bottom so nothing can go underneath it! Thank you for showing us how you do a “move out” clean, it was great to watch! 🥰🥰
I wish my landlords had hired real professionals like you. All the landlords I’ve had hire cleaners who claim to be professional but will only clean just enough to make it LOOK clean. Every time I move into a new rental, there are cobwebs everywhere, grimy window sills and frames, grimy floors, carpet coated in pounds of dust. And the bath tubs are their own horrors. It makes moving in so much more stressful than needed because I have to deep clean the new place while packing up and moving out the old place.
Open a bag of new charcoal briquettes, spread onto opened bag they came in and leave out for 2 – 3 days to absorb any bad odor. Discard briquettes afterwards. I read this tip years ago and used this method once to absorb odor in my car trunk left from a gallon of milk with a loose cap which spilled into my trunk carpet on a grocery haul.
The dead flies in the windowsills may have been from an insecticide, being sprayed onto the blinds and windowsill. I always clean and spray my windowsill with Bengal insecticide to kill the occasional fly that may be my house. Flies will always fly to windows in an attempt to get outside. However, I do routinely clean the windowsill and blinds thoroughly. I may have two or three flies to clean up not hundreds.
NIce job! I’m dealing with a move out situation as well. I was going to do it myself, but it was quickly apparent that the task was bigger than I could handle alone. Even the cleaner wasn’t able to get everything, like the places where candle wax is now a part of the bedroom carpet, and she was here six hours! I’m going to buy or borrow an iron and try that. I’m more bothered by the things that are broken or have gone missing. It makes me sad, because I’d never treat someone else’s space and things like that.
I may have ananswer to the flies: I lived in an apartment for 4 years that periodically would fill up with large blow flies. It was horrific. I learned by lots of investigation that in some old buildings they will hatch inside the walls and then find a way to the interior of the dewlling. I know for a fact that rats/mice died in the walls because I could smell them. The happiest day was when I finally found a house out in the country and left that hell hole.
Gee, I wish my apartment complex management provided such a service for move-ins. I always thought that it should be mandatory to hire people to clean, if not have a staff to do so. I think I will add this to my list of suggestions for my city. Thanks for your integrity, responsibility, and diligence!
When you bring home a frozen chicken or turkey put it in a pan to thaw out. The packaging always leaks and I had a turkey thawing that ended up with blood going down the fridge, into the drain hole below and underneath the fridge itself. What a mess and awful smell. Stale water in a window AC unit will also draw flies like the dickens. You did a wonderful job here, I’d hire you in a flat minute for twice whatever you’re being paid now!
The amount of love and care you put into cleaning i am in awe!!! This is serious motivation for me to clean my new home before moving in! I really hope your new tenants appreciate!!!! Coming from my moms now i am seeing we never did this type of clean at her place we only did deep cleaning for spring but not a move in clean
This was the most thorough cleaning ever. My adult daughter accidentally burned microwave popcorn in a bag and the whole house smelled. I cleaned the inside and outside with baking soda, vinegar and some water solution but there’s still a slight smell. Any ideas on what else I can do besides getting a new one lol
AWESOME article!!! I like the idea of wax paper on top of the cabinets. I pretty much clean like this and I was trying to figure out the best cleaner to use on my wooden kitchen cabinets and lo and behold, I already have some Dawn Powerwash. Can’t wait to get started on my kitchen. I clean out my refrigerator (shelves and drawers, all of it) several times a year. I hate a messy refrigerator. We also take our refrigerator out twice a year and the stove once a year to clean under it. But it is only my husband and I who live here, and a short haired senior Chihuahua so under those appliances, it isn’t too bad. Thank you for a great article! Be safe and take care. ❤
For cleaning the microwave you should use a glass bowl put two cups of water and two tablespoons of either white vinegar or lemon juice. Microwave on high for five minutes. Let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes to cool. Then carefully remove glass bowl and glass turn table. Clean with damp cloth starting inside top, sides and bottom. The steam usually softens any stuck on food. Plus you can be cleaning something else while it’s steaming up.
I would recommend being more careful with those heavy duty cleaners like she used on the stove etc because they can spot and discolor some floor finishes! so always remember to slide newspaper under the edges of the stove or fridge etc BEFORE spraying to catch the drips and stuff! if no newspaper then use paper towels or even a plastic garbage bag.
There is no way I would ever leave a property in filth smh. I lived in my home for 17 years. We sold it a year ago. At settlement the realtor of the family purchasing my house asked who did you hire to clean the house it was spotless. I told her I cleaned the house and she was shocked. She said most people never do that type of cleaning. The family was appreciative. I don’t play that filth.
To live with all those flies and tie a bag of bread behind the fridge to absorb orders rather than clean the mess…..I hate to say it but there was a murder in that place 😢 You two did a great job ! I wish I could clean with my girls, but I can do nothing to please them 😏 They can’t work together either, we all clean desperately 🙁
Furniture hides everything . As a cleaning business owner of 30 years, I approve this message! You did an amazing job. I always wonder why people can allow dust sitting in vents that are at eye level . How do they sit there and just let the dust grow. However, it’s a business for everyone. Some people just hate to maintain their home. I’ve seen so much it doesn’t shock me anymore. I’ve had to remove old food stuck to the fridge, including cat hair in the fridge. Have you gotten the blood off the toilet seats and floors? I’ve had a dead body in a house but didn’t know and I didn’t go in, because the home hadn’t been renovated yet. You explained what you do very well. I enjoyed perusal !
Don’t forget to check the water drain tray under the refrigerator; that stale water smells bad!! That is a small refrigerator; way too small for me. Last time I rented, I bought myself a side-by-side refrigerator and put it in the basement. When I moved out, it was the kitchen refrigerator when I bought a house. I do a deep clean every 6 months. My kids complained but when her friends mentioned their home was really clean even their bedrooms, they smiled. Carpet is shampooed 3 times a year; it’s a light beige color and I did not want stains or dirt being trampled into the carpet fibers. Plus 18 year old carpet looks new clean.
No LIes Here: When I was a tenant, out of respect for my parents’ teaching of ownership and out of gratefulness to my landlord, I made sure that my move-out clean would leave the place to be cleaner than when I moved in. I had two landlords GIVE me not only my security deposit, but the money they would have paid for a professional cleaner. Fast forward to 2023, I”m a landlord and I truly attribute having passive income from rental property stems from me being a good steward over any property I was given the favor to dwell in.
I’m such a germaphobe when I move into a new place. I clean everything as you have shown. (Well minus the vents and moving appliances) but when I do I always find items of the previous tenant, grime, and dust. Blech! I get grossed out and friggin tired cuz it takes me DAYS! Im also pissed cuz the cleaners the owner hired were not thorough. So I appreciated seeing your work! That said, the next rental I get, I hope to hire a company as thorough as y’all for my peace of mind!
I enjoyed your presentation of the cleaning. As a professonal cleaner myself, I found that when I was hired to clean an appartment between tenants, I was only paid at most $45. I could have never cleaned like you did even though I wanted to.I only tried that type of cleaning twice. Early on I was introduced to an all most all purpose cleaner. “Fast Orange hand cleaner”. Even on new construction of luxury homes, I have used it on mirrors, marble. tile and any other construction dried on sloopy stuff that was left behind, without a scratch. Leaving it on dirty ovens ( think BBQ pits)😅and stove tops over night if you can, otherwise, put on liberally first thing before anything else and then clean last. Optionally, you can put plastic wrap over it keep it wet.
Hi! I totally understand! I had rented property in past it’s amazing what people leave behind, one tip that I will give you take away bad smells is put out a plate or bowl of charcoal and pell apple on top, it will take away any bad smell, trust, if there a dead mice you can’t find, it will take that smell away with in a day, thanks! 🤗🥰
New subscriber here from New Zealand. I’m amazed by your upbeat attitude to cleaning your mom’s unit. It’s a lovely unit and they did not treat it well but you are really upbeat and that’s refreshing! I love the way you clean, you clean like me and it’s so satisfying to watch! In NZ we pay two weeks rent in advance when we rent a place. When we leave, if it’s not perfectly clean, including ceiling and walls, then we don’t get our initial two weeks rent. It’s a lot of money so generally people clean and clean and clean to make sure they get their money back. We even hire a carpet cleaner if there’s carpet and waterblast the outside of the house. It’s a really big deal, I can’t imagine just walking out leaving a place looking like that!
When I moved out of an apartment. I cleaned everything they tried their best to find something so they had a reason to take some money out of the security deposit. The apartment was cleaner than when I moved there. They asked if I hired a professional cleaner. They wanted to hire me to work for them.
Wow nadir cleans like that ever anymore! Thank you so much!! I clean behind my appliances about 3-4 times a year. But I’m crazy haha I also clean my walls about 2-3 times a month and yes to the grease as a Mexicana my husband is like why do you use lots of grease to cook lol I say but you eat it don’t you? Lol my question to you is how to clean popcorn ceilings that are in my kitchen that may have that grease ?? 😮
Do you ever clean older mobile homes? Mine is a 2000 model and the cabinets are those cheap ones that are basically card board covered in a weird paper. I am looking for ideas on how to clean them gently and also, since I have cats that like to use them for scratching, the best way to patch them before painting. Just wondering, in your experience and your mom’s, best gentle products to use. Thanks.
In my retirement community, I volunteer with a team of residents who organize an estate sale if a resident dies or has to move to the nursing home. We are often shocked and saddened at how dreadfully grimy some homes are even though they have weekly maid service — because the maid service just does a light, slap-dash surface clean unless you pay them extra. You’ve got to deep clean a couple of times a year, at least. You’ve got to move furniture, clean baseboards, dust the trim, etc.
People doesn’t know how to respect others property. I think all landlords should be allowed to do a house inspection once a month and if it’s starting to get really filthy and stinky then house keeping should be allowed to go in and clean. Make that part of rent like 20 monthly like you would for a monthly pet fee. It should be non negotiable if living like pigs. The ones that actually cleans homes of course wouldn’t be charged but can be if getting like others than yes. If you have pets then it’s a must. Maybe people wouldn’t be so filthy. I’m glad I own my home now but when I rented I respected the home and it was cleaner than I moved in when I moved out.
i live in South Florida, roaches are a big thing down here .so i clean behind my stove n fridge every month sometimes more especially the stove n spray behind, it and caulk all crevices.i also put an open can of coffee in the bottom stove draw and near my dryer vent that leads outside. roaches cant handle the strong coffee smell. now coffee is more money but i dont care once a month 3 extra cans .and they dont like cleaners so i spray like pinesol or fabuloso around the baseboards everyweek and on my outside patio.i might get 2 roaches in my house a year. and they never get out alive. also put all food goods in plastic containers like cereals, rice, flour, pasta, cookies .and i always put my defrosting meat in a plastic container so no leaks. and garbage out of house every night.
Hey, it’s your nose hairs. I used to work in the emergency services here in the UK and had to attend a lot of houses with people who had passed away. At first I would smell that smell for hours, sometimes days after leaving. Only thing that stopped it? I started waxing out my nosehairs. Otherwise, while attending, I use blue face masks layered with Vicks vaporub or Olbas oil in between layers or an N95 mask!
I have a tip. To clean out smell that builds up in an oven or microwave. A cake tin half filled with water, heat this in the oven until boiling with some rosemary oil in the tin. The microwave can be thickly sprayed with diluted detergent inside. Put a cup half filled with water and lemon oil. Bring to the boil. Remove the dish and wipe out the detergent and handwash the dish.
Love your articles and I get more cleaning ideas, ty. What’s 5he lemon product called? Have u ever, cleaned a cockroach invested place? I clean an apt for a couple of guys. I eat my lunch standing up and don’t put my food down or the cockroaches beat me to it. Their Apts spray but it doesn’t help. I put sticky traps down there filled with roaches. 8m thinking of putting roach killer stuff b3hind the refrigerator and oven where 5he animals can’t fit. Any ideas? Not judging just conserned.ty.
I spent over 18 hours cleaning the house we rented, the day before we were set to move in! It was vile and yes, I was furious. The landlord was so apologetic and took two months rent off (£1250/mo at the time). My husband and I left the house spotless upon moving out. Our landlord sent us our deposit plus the last month’s rent that we paid. He was a brilliant landlord. (Apparently his cleaners never showed up when we were to move in.)

Nice cleaning job!! This is how I like to see it done. I would like to comment on the place itself. That is a horrible paint job where the wall meets the baseboards. And where the gas line is coming in, someone obviously painted over rotten or damaged wood. You do such a nice job cleaning, why would you let such horrible craftsmanship be ok? I don’t think your mother is going to buy new curtains between tenants, they cost more than blinds. She probably plans to wash them. She should have been honest with you. Your cleaning is top notch though.
Wow! What a job you had to do. Great work! I’d like to know why you scrub with the cleaners and then generally wipe off the soap without removing it with clean sponges and water first. Without rinsing thoroughly, you’d leave soap residue behind. Soap residue would be likely to attract dirt, dust, etc. Maybe that’s in your editing, but it seems like you spray the cleaner, scrub the soiled areas, and then just wipe that off with a dry cloth. Am I missing a step? I had renters who said they “did a good job cleaning” and it was horrific! They must have fried chicken every day and there was grease everywhere. I hate using caustic chemicals, but this called for the big guns and many repeat scrubbings.
I had that stench in my home,I scrubbed every nook and cranny and still 🤢🤢🤮,Now I don’t keep things on top of my refrigerator so I never thought to look up there but I figured well I’ll dust it right can’t hurt and there it was A Bag of chicken patties Omg so freaking nasty thankfully it was bagged so easy clean .I told my husband and he said yeah I was looking for something I must have set it up there,uh yeah because I’m to short to reach it hence why I didn’t see it lol
i’m soooo hurt we had our house ready and nice for selling it and than my bf decided to rent to this family with kids and didn’t put no agreements in place they paid once or twice and stopped paying and he still let them stay there a little while longer and than we finally got them evicted and now we plan on moving in and we come and it’s destroyed so nasty they didn’t have no water on no electricity they was pooping in the toilet with no water they smoked in our house EVERYTHING is yellow and we are having to move in ASAP while it’s like that i’m so depressed i’ve cried and cried and i’ve been so depressed lately and have 0 energy to even get this going but we have too they destroyed the walls put holes in the wall the paint is peeled placed they left trash in there everything is yellow the blinds are messed up like even the freaking washer and dryer is yellow they destroyed the furniture and we had a mattress cover on the bed and they took it off and the bed is yellow and stained we did some cleaning today but i’m pregnant and have been sick there’s spiders and roaches everywhere i’m just so upset and don’t even know where to start i’m so overwhelmed with it and than having to live in while pregnant is even more overwhelming and i’m so upset and we don’t have the money to hire anybody to help clean i don’t have much family i’m extremely depressed i’m having such a hard time i’m perusal articles to help me get motivated i’m thankful i’m not homeless but dang why did they have to destroy the house !
Ok questions… are y’all in Cali? How long did this take you? It looked like you’re fast! 2 weeks ago I did a move out clean on a 1/1 like this and it took me 14 HOURS!!!! OMG, I wish I could insert pictures! The RAT poop was 1in long or bigger. The drawer of the oven was full of it. The holes in the cabinets were giant! And when I pulled out the stove, silverware was stuck to the walls of the cabinets!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣 The local cleaners didn’t show up so a lady I clean for called me. I live just over an hour away. I didn’t want the job, but I really like her and extra money is always good! Let me tell you, I regretted saying yes! The dude had blankets taped to the walls & window frames w duct tape & electrical tape 😆 then he had curtains over that, hung with SCREWDRIVERS poked right into the paneling walls!!! And yes, she provided blinds. I throw it all away. It’s cheaper to replace plastic mini blinds at Family Dollar than to pay someone to clean them. I only charged her $400 (bc of size) but really it should’ve been $650-700. When I told my SIL that I gave her a deep discount bc she always uses me and is good to me, she said….I like her too, but my time is valuable and how is she sooo good to you? Bc she pays you for the WORK YOU DO? She knows what your work looks like, that’s why she calls YOU. And if she doesn’t like your price, don’t call. She is notorious for having me go do a job then asking what she owes. She’s never complained or not paid. But the bigger ones I’ve done (like $1200) I made a quote for her to sign.
Hi! My daughter recently moved into a 2 story home and as we looked through the home after contract was signed and deposit was given and she started to move in, we see that the house was even more dirty than meets the eye. Layers of the owners living conditions, dirty from top to bottom. My daughter had no choose but to clean it because she needed to move in. What advice can you offer me. So far we cleaned at least 5 times the walls, floors, deep clean bathrooms, windows, backyard. We have reached out to the owner already to discuss because we have found mice. My gosh, the ac has a film of dirt.
I need your help with my wall. When I moved into my apartment, they painted the wall next to the stove. When I went clean it, the cleaning products I used took the paint off, revealing years of grease on the wall. I have used every product over the last 5 years, trying to clean it. Nothing works. Any suggestions?
I think I would have called the police and had them check out those bloody rags. I have a friend who had a cleaning company and when she was slammed with clients, like Christmas and other holidays, I would help out. I can tell you all that there are houses that people live in that are just GROSS. Food left in bedrooms and bathrooms so dirty you wonder how this much dirt and trashing can happen in 2 weeks. Yes, even people who have regular cleaning service have gross houses.
Hi, so I found a beautiful home I want to rent but the Landlord is having the previous tenants clean it for the next tenants. I don’t even know if that’s legal but any how I don’t think they will clean thoroughly. So what are all the things you suggest I do or make sure is done to insure that the home is clean enough as if it was professionally cleaned? Would I need to go as far as fumigating you think
I used to clean for 2 families During the years my children were in grade school….every week, after cleaning the kitchen ……(I deep cleaned the first time I went in) each week, I would pull the drain tray out from under the refrigerator, wash it again THIS week, and then slide it back into place and put 1 c warm water in the tray with 1/4 cup of pine sol, fabulosa, Lysol, liquid gain or tide(1/8c)….. everytime the Fridge defrosts and THAT moisture goes down into the tray, the fan comes on and the whole kitchen and house Would smell clean over and over…..by the time I get back next week, I wash the tray and start over…..☺️…..I also started the crock pot on low when I got there in the morning…..so there was something hot to eat when people came home from work……I enjoyed it…..💗
Caustic (strong bases, with very high pH) oven cleaner like the original Easy Off, which contain strong hydroxides, will destroy aluminum, other metals, plastics like knobs and control panels, painted surfaces, flooring and many other things around a home. It has a super-high pH, the opposite of an acid, and literally burns off the grease. I wouldn’t use it on a stovetop unless I could check the stove’s manual to see if it’s safe. Also don’t use it in a self-cleaning oven, it will ruin it. Special PPE is needed to use it, especially strong-base resistant gloves (not all glove types work for every chemical), and eye protection are essential (chemical-resistant goggles). Ventilation and proper respiratory protection is very important, too, you don’t want to breathe these vapors, they will burn your lungs. That said, I still rely on Easy Off for cleaning many things like barbecue grills and oven racks (outside on a newspaper covered surface).
In the past we always cleaned after moving out of a rental. We always had to pay a deposit so we wanted our money back but never has a landlord gave us our full deposit or/if any. I took good care of the places i have stayed. I have been in this rental for many yrs and its hard for me to clean my trailer now because I’m disabled. It bothers me because I have always been a clean person! I need help😭😭😭 I just don’t let anyone come in my home so it’s really hard trusting ppl
Wow, what a great article! You know where all the dirt is, and get all of it! I wish you could come and help me get my house good clean! I used to keep a very clean and organized house, but 10 years ago, I became disabled. I can’t do the housework I used to do. I’m physically incapable of it. I loved working to make it sparkle… and now I have to look at dust bunnies! I love seeing how thorough you are!😊
This brought back memories! My dad would rent out apartments. Every time a tenant would move out my siblings and I would help him clean the apartment from ceiling to floor. It seemed no one cared how they left the apartments behind. My friends loved me when they would move into an apartment. I would tackle bathrooms for them and make them sparkle! Then I would help tackle the kitchen. You and your mom attacked the rental so fiercely! I was horrified at the sight of the dead flies. His bless your mom at how she decided to tackle the problem. Love your articles!
After cleaning my homes for military moves and helping others, and some of those houses stank, I realized the smell had been absorbed in the paint and carpet pads. So when a tenant moves out, you should paint the walls and ceilings and completely replace the carpet. Just washing the walls and carpets doesn’t take out the bad odor. Also, did you replace the broken shelf in the freezer?
those issues you described arent tenants faults, theyre bad landlords.. how many time i complained about flies in the home went on deaf ears but the moment a wall fell or the basement flooded with sewage he was there.. call your landlord or call authorities to condemn it and send the message.. also, move immediately..
When I moved into my last apartment, the previous tenants had let mold grow in the shower, so even after cleaning, there was this gross stain on the tile grout. When I googled how to clean it, it said to wet paper towels in bleach, lay them on the stains, and wait. But the fumes were making me and my cat sick, and it didn’t really do anything. Any tips on removing mold stains after the mold itself has been cleaned?
Absolutely awesome job. It’s like a totally new home. I was wondering what kind of white gloves are you wearing? I’m having trouble finding a pair that I can wear and still be able to work quickly with them on. My hands are in bad shape. What works best for you in this area? Going to order the Zep product’s you used. Thanks for this information.
I would like to know some of the cleaning products or fomulas you use. I use some of my own formulas as I like using more natural products, but I am alergic to alot of smells. Thank you, you did a great job!! I used to clean move outs and frat houses by the college. you have to have a strong stomach do some of it!! I just thought the next tenants would be happy. Thank you for sharing.
Cleaning an apt empty is very hard you take the stove apart cleaning all the parts the dishwasher and it’s parts and the refrigerator and it’s parts .Cleaning the AC unit cover and the inside of the cabinet of the ac unit .Bathroom don’t even get me started on that ugh .The outside balcony washing all the siding on it if it had it wash all windows inside and out all blinds fixtures lights carpet closet tracks sliding door tracks .People have no clue at all what it takes to clean an apt.i could go on and on with the things I saw and delt with I can’t even
Girl I can’t help thinking that there was defiantly a dead body in there that no one knew about!! I have only seen flies of that magnitude along with a strange odor that you can’t really explain and then the blood??? and the air fresheners tell me that the prior tenants were trying to get the smell out and more than likely became nose blind to it so they didn’t realize that it was so strong still! I mean rotten meat from a cow is not gonna produce thousands of flies like that and so much blood that you are cleaning it from multiple surfaces or areas, but the flies make me really raise an eyebrow! I don’t know!! On a positive note, you guys did a beautiful job!! I clean houses, too, and it is crazy how a lot of people in our line of work don’t know how to clean! I watch some articles and get stressed out wishing I could just jump into my screen and help, perusal your article was refreshing and satisfying!!!
The bread behind the refrigerator I think it was for the odor and also if the odor was still there maybe the floors and the walls already absorbed all the blood from the refrigerator and they never opened the door nor windows for te odor not be spotted outside? I would have asked why the condition of the refrigerator through email just to have their answer. Maybe I’m perusal too many articles from the crime scenes cleaners and they show why the odor would have never disappeared with regular cleaner products.
I think I accidently deleted my question. If not I apologize for asking again. I have a new wall oven that Im trying to keep looking brand new. The only trouble I’m haveing is with the racks. I bought amonia to soak the ones that come out in by putting them in a garbage bag outside with the amonia in it. One of the racks dos not come out. Any recommendations you have would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, I’m so glad I found your website!
I end up spending a lot of time rinsing. Especially on stove tops and ovens. I didn’t see you rinsing the oven cleaner or the orange cleaner on the stove. It looked like you just wiped it clean with a dry rag. Is that even possible?, I always go over the outside of the stove with window cleaner to make it shine. Because I inevitably leave behind water spots from rinsing or some product here and there. But all that takes time. You did it so fast, like one wipe down. How do you do that? Also, I know that Dawn power wash makes a lot of suds but I didn’t see you rinsing that either (which would make more suds of course). I feel like I’m wiping and wiping. Wash, rinse, dry and shine. Too many steps to make things shine!
I clean houses too and have struggled with a clients stove top for months now ive tried everything to remove the caked on baked on black char around the burners any suggestions. And its frustrating bc they dont stay on too of the house in between cleaning so i dont have all day to get that one job done help me plz
Your mom could increase the rent amount a bit to include weekly or monthly cleaning. That would be considered a bonus by the renter, your mom pays you, & added benefit is you’re seeing that the property is being cared for. The tenant doesnt need to know you’re the landlord’s daughter. As the population is aging, people like that more inclusive type of arrangement.
You are right – “clean” doesn’t have a scent. I noticed when going to other people’s houses, then coming back to my own, I notice a musty odor (I have 2 dogs and wall-to-wall carpeting in all but kitchen, hallway, bathrooms and foyer. There was a ceiling leak that was fixed but the carpet in the living room got wet, so I suspect that’s part of the odor. I’m sure the dogs add to it as well. You’d love me as a tenant – I do amazing move-out cleanings after myself and family.
I want to take care of the apartment I rent. I need to clean up my kitchen cabinets, where I store dishes, and canned goods and dry goods, etc. Once I remove everything from the cabinets. What is the best and safest thing to clean out the inside of the cabinets with Especially where I store food. Nothing looks really dirty. It just needs to be wiped out I think.
I really enjoy perusal your website. Love you cleaning ideas. I just moved into my apartment and they cleaned, but not deep enough for my liking. I have to get the tips of the cabinets, they are grimy. Thanks for that info. Blessings to you and your mom. I also don’t know how I would have done with all this flies. Lol
I hate blinds too. How would you clean mold on the window sill from the restroom we try opening the window and the exhaust but it’s so small. It gets dirty so fast is there anything we can use besides water and bleach I just feel like the bleach smell lingers for too long because of the size of the small restroom.
