Methods For Staining Interior Doors In Commercial Settings?

Staining a door is a simple and effective DIY task that can enhance the appearance of unfinished commercial doors. To begin, remove all hardware, sand and clean the door with proper preparation, set up a flippable workstation, apply wood conditioner, then sand smooth, apply stain to desired color depth, apply 2-3 coats of polyurethane, and hang the door. For “Soft” wood, apply stain when temperatures are between 50° and 90°F and relative humidity is below 80. Apply stain to all exposed edges and brush or wipe it in the direction of the grain, using smooth, even strokes. Wipe off any excess.

These instructions are designed for use on fiberglass, carbonite, composition, and other simulated wood grain surfaces, as well as stainable door frames. Thoroughly read and follow all the instructions, applying as many coats of stain to achieve your desired look, sanding and cleaning surface between each application. Once your desired look has been achieved, apply a minimum of 2 coats of sealer.

To stain a wood door, remove doorknobs and locks, sand old stain off if necessary, clean the wood door, remove weather stripping, stir the stain to mix, apply the first stain to the door, wait 24 hours for it to dry, and apply the second stain with light and equal pressure across the entire surface. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry open the cans of stain and apply it to the door with a pad or brush.

To properly stain a wood door, follow these steps: choose the right stain color, remove the door from the frame, sand the door, stain the door, remove excess stain, air dry, and lightly sand a primed molded door with 220-grit sandpaper. Apply the stain to the door with even wiping motions while working the product into the wood and following the grain.
