This video demonstrates how to remove and re-fit a central heating radiator after decorating. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to prepare the radiator, including fixing it to mount, nipping up the left and right side, opening both valves, and bleeding the radiator until air stops. The system pressure gauge should be just below green before refurb work is completed. After refurb work, the radiator can be reattached to the wall and filled with water to get back up to speed.
There are two methods of taking the radiator off the wall: draining the water from the radiator and a more clever method where no water is lost. Removing a radiator is relatively simple, but requires someone to help lift it. Turn off the radiator at the valves and place a towel on the radiator. Close the drain-off valve, close all bleed valves, start letting water into the system, and Bleed air out of one radiator. Slowly open the valves again to allow water to gradually fill the radiator. Check for leakage between the radiator and the valve.
Refit radiators, open valves, repressurize the system, and bleed rads. Turn off the radiator, place towels and a bowl beneath it, undo the radiator valve nut, and drain water from the radiator. Once the radiator is full of water, remove it and follow the steps to repressurize the system and bleed rads.
