The measuring guidelines for arched and circle top windows are as follows:
- The “high point” of a radius top window is the length from the bottom of the window (B) to the tip of the shutter’s arch (A).
- The low point (also known as the “short side”) is the length from the bottom of the window (B) to the tip of the shutter’s arch (A).
- To measure for arch window shutters, always have a metal tape measure before starting to measure. Timberlane provides visual guides and clear instructions for squared and arched windows.
Measuring windows properly is essential for ensuring smooth installation and a great end result. Use the steps outlined in our measuring instructions based on material to obtain the basic dimensions required to order arch top shutters. For vinyl shutters, measure for composite shutters.
For arched shutters, measure the width along the top of the window, then along the bottom. The height of one side of the window may differ from the other.
The exterior shutter width should ideally be half of the full window width. Measure the width of your window, not including any frame or trim around it, for an authentic look. Arched openings need to be measured at the center of the top to the bottom. Shutter height decisions will be based on this measurement.
The standard arch drop is a 1:1 ratio, meaning that the difference in height from one side of the shutter to the other is equal to the width of the shutter. To find the width, measure from left to right at the bottom of the arch. For the height, measure from the very center of the width to the highest point on the side jamb.
