Is It Possible To Put Murphy Oil On Internal Wood Doors?

Murphy Oil Soap Wood Cleaner is a popular product for cleaning wooden furniture and floors, especially when cabinet doors start to lose their shine. To clean wood cabinets, mix warm water with Murphy’s Oil Soap and use a soft cloth or sponge to gently wipe down the surfaces. Avoid using abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals.

For outdoor furniture, Better Homes And Gardens recommends using Murphy® Oil Soap to freshen up plastic, metal, glass, or wood items. For smooth crown molding and door trim, use a pole with a rag wrapped around the end. If you have wooden doors and cabinets, Murphy’s Oil Soap can also be used for various other surfaces.

For varnished wood interior doors, apply Murphy’s Oil Soap by wiping down the surface of the door in the direction of the grain and towel drying to remove excess cleaner. This will make your doors look shiny and new. Murphy’s Oil Soap sprays on as a thin liquid and works like magic to remove dark spots that often appear on wood doors where everyone’s hand(s) contact it.

Murphy Oil Soap works wonders on hardwood, laminate, tile, and linoleum floors but has other surprising uses. Mix it with water to create an all-purpose cleaning solution for the entire area, then use it on the walls, floor, sinks, counters, toilets, and showers.

For door hardware, which can collect germs and dirt, use Murphy’s Oil Soap. Apply the oil soap to a rag and wipe the entire surface of the door in the direction of the grain. For solid wood doors, ideally wipe down with a soft cloth and Murphy Oil Soap. Wood front doors should be cleaned with Murphy Oil Soap, while other types of doors can be cleaned with mild soap and water.

  • Thank you for another great clear, concise article! That makes me wonder … all the beautiful old homes we have and all the apartment blocks in Albany and Springfield and those places had tons of wood casing and trim (and back porches in the case of the apartment blocks). All they used to do with the wood was rub them down with oil, decade after decade (making them perfect for fire!). Then paint became available for the DIY-er in, I don’t know when, but then everyone painted over their woodwork. How do you think that was possible? Probably because the paints were oil-based? I was recently in a place with a very large, custom kitchen from the 1920’s. All the cabinets had been painted over in a high gloss oil paint, tough as nails. Then, Lord knows when or why, someone painted over it with water-base, maybe in the 70’s or 80’s, telling by the color. All the paint can be pulled off in huge strips. From the back of the paint it looks like there was no primer. Form the sheen on the oil paint under it, it doesn’t even look like there was the slightest roughing. What a mess.
