Is It Possible To Go Inside The Ghostbusters Firehouse In Los Angeles?

The Firehouse 23 in Los Angeles, known as Engine Co. 23, is a working fire station that was used for the interior scenes of the Ghostbusters Headquarters. Although the interior shots were shot on a set in Los Angeles, the firefighters of Ladder 8 welcome visitors and are happy to show off their collection of items and pictures from the movie franchise. The firehouse is usually noted on filming tours of New York City, but if you want to go on your own, it is very easy to find.

In 2022, Episode 10: Ghost Stories of a Haunted Firehouse covered the history of Fire Station 23 in Los Angeles, better known as the interior. The building was only used for external shots of the Ghostbusters’ firehouse, with the interior shots being a combination of a Los Angeles setting. In early summer, YouTuber Ghost Beacon gave a rare look inside Engine Co. 23, the Los Angeles fire station. Although it is not operational, it can be seen from the entrance and is not overly busy.

The Hook and Ladder No. 8 station, located in Tribeca, is not operational, meaning you usually cannot get inside. It is in the middle of what is often referred to as “the neighborhood”. If you live locally and are thinking about going to see it, it is important to note that it requires preapproval as it is not operational and is in the middle of what is often referred to as “the neighborhood”.

Why is Ghostbusters banned in China?

Chinese culture has long been dominated by secularism, with any depiction of ghosts or spirits being explicitly forbidden. Even with Western culture and policies, films with ghosts are still banned in China. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, Noah, and Ghostbusters were banned due to the fact that neither the 1984 classic nor its sequel were ever screened in China. The China Film Company, which handles most foreign films in the Communist country, believes there is not much market for these films. The Ecto-1 set is not designed to fit inside the firehouse set, and it is not necessary to remove parts. For expert builders and those seeking movie-to-lego accuracy, purchasing 2 or 3 sets of the firehouse set can be enough to fit the Ecto-1 correctly. However, removing a small “pretend” box and desk may be necessary. The car can fit inside the set, but it requires removing some “incidental” elements like the furniture on the first interior floor. Overall, the set is suitable for both beginner and expert builders.

  • The Millennium Biltmore Hotel is the location for the some of the Academy Awards ceremonies. Walt Disney received the Oscars for Seven Dwarfs at Academy Awards event at Biltmore Hotel in 1939. Also, the Black Dahlia murder case involved the Biltmore Hotel. A very historic Los Angeles location. Enjoy your time here in the Greater Los Angeles area!

  • WELL DONE SIR!!! In June, I tried to get out to the exterior for the GB fire station, but there were far too many vagrants and open drug use going on, so I wasn’t about to leave my vehicle. I’m so stoked that you were able to experience this and share the other experiences as well. Huge Jeopardy and Wheel fan so thank you for that as well!

  • Jay, this article is awesome. I was born in ‘75. Ghostbusters was a HUGE part of my childhood. I have been to LA/Hollywood/Burbank a few times. I have to say that if CA state income tax was 14% I would love living there. I have a friend who worked for Screen Gems in Burbank. I went to a taping of The Tonight Show w/ Jay Leno. I also have a fellow stage hand that worked on Big Bang Theory.

  • Nice article man!! I have visited the NYC locations and Sony Studios but I have never been to the Firehouse/ hotel interiors!! Noticed you didn’t see the giant hand painted picture that was used at the end of GB2. It was in the prop room next to some proton packs and a set piece from afterlife. This was a real treat, thank you for sharing 🙂 Scott

  • BTW, I’m super excited for March 22, since that is when Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire comes out. I’m so excited. I don’t have the 1st 2 on DVD, but I do have the Ghostbusters: Answer the Call (Melissa McCarthy one) & Ghostbusters: Afterlife on DVD. Once this new one hits DVD, I want that one too. I’ve got to get the original 2 on DVD as well. That way I’ve got them all!

  • Awesome vid. Ghostbusters is definitely in my top 5. I loved afterlife also I thought they they did justice to Harold and it was just a fun well rounded movie like the 1st. I’m scared of the next installment because of the director but I hope it turns out just as fun of a movie ro enjoy. Keep up the good work❤❤❤.

  • Unbelievable! GBTVG Sedgewick interior level uses locations from the actual Biltmore hotel used in GB1 THAT WEREN’T SEEN IN THE MOVIE! (ceiling detailing main room, reception desk, large hall on right of entrance, ceiling light panels, vases, flowers, indirect lights on hallway ceilings, etc. Incredible!)

  • I was actually at the filming locations in NYC when they filmed the 1st & 2nd Ghostbusters at several locations back in the 80’s, some of the vehicles was used from a friends prop car business, i was actually in the scene by the NYC municipal building by city hall, also the 2016 Ghostbusters car, some of the lights 🚨 was gotten thru me & used by the car builder

  • Another great vlog on another one of my favorite films!! My brother in-law was a FDNY firefighter in Harlem for many decades and was able to get access to some of the New York filming locations. I just finished perusal the latest installment of the ghostbusters movie franchise the actual 3rd one that included Harold Ramis as a ghost due to his unfortunate passing which was filmed by Ivan Reitmans son. I believe his name is Steven Reitman. The next ghostbusters film will be coming out soon in the future. Ghostbusters afterlife frozen empire. I absolutely love the ghostbusters franchise and not that stupid remake from the 3 women. Some people probably liked it however not this guy. I’m looking forward to see what else you got coming up!

  • WOW oh WOW Tampa, when I watch these old movies again as I’m a movie buff, I will pay a little more close attention to the scene f the filming locations, blimey I didn’t know that. Thanks mate those were great movies, you see the movie, but wonder if that was ana ctual locatin or a prop, but WOW thanks for the article

  • Did he say what they’re restoring it for? Are they gonna have it as a museum for the city? Or something like a Ghostbusters museum? Just curious as to what they’re planning to do with it, because it’s in a very bad part of town, idk how likely tourists would be to actually want to go there, so they could go inside.

  • Jay when my daughter was a PA for a post production company in LA she would have to go to the Sony lot to pick up or deliver things and ran into a friend who was carrying the original Star Wars 35 MM film that they were using to edit the Star Wars VII. He let her hold it for a few minutes. Very cool. Also she was there for a screening of Star Wars VII.

  • That was the correct elevator corridor, they just set up a fake wall with the lamp to block off the other doorway. Also, in the Biltmore is the staircase used for the stairs at Dana’s, the “tell me when we get to 20, I’m gonna throw up…” which if you pay real close attention in the film you can see which part is the staircase and which is a matte painting.

  • Actually Flew all the way to California to see if the filming locations of Ghostbusters it was a birthday present for my I was so surprised I was in shock. I was going down to California and it was my first time flying California that summer and I was so excited that was flying all the way California.

  • Wow such an awesome article Jay! Ghostbusters is one of my favorites and seeing inside the parts they filmed in LA is really cool. On top of seeing the article and pictures you took of the Sony tour blew me away. The Jeopardy pictures you showed gave me goosebumps. The Seinfeld living room & all the props in that room looks so neat. Thanks for filming and talking about your experience.

  • The details that go into that set are just mind-boggling. I LOVE that they did this with a practical set instead of trying to CGI-polish in everything. I would think as an actor it would be SO much easier to understand and get into your character when you can so realistically plant yourself into their daily lives.

  • Years ago I visited New York City and made a pilgrimage to the firehouse. Spent ages going up and down streets, failing to find the bloody place! This was during the “snow bombe” so few passers by, one lady coming out of an apartment had no idea what Ghostbusters was. Eventually someone pointed me in the direction of a building covered in scaffold and tarpaulin…

  • Please tell me they’ve taken lots and lots of high-res photos of every square inch. I want to see all the little bits and pieces of this set. It’s absolutely beautiful and how I always imagined it looking. About the only set that competes with it in my mind is the Turtles lair from the first TMNT film back in the 90’s.

  • I absolutely love listening and perusal Eve. Between this article and the tour of the labs, you can tell she is so passionate about her work and especially her work on this movie. There is a woman who’s never worked a day in her life. That passion makes all the difference and I know other set designers are just as passionate about their work, but it’s great to see a face to all of the others who don’t get the spotlight but work just as hard bringing these worlds to life for us. Makes me incredibly appreciative of her and other set designers as well. And thank you Adam and the Tested crew for making her feel like the most important person in the room. ❤️

  • This was great. I love the Ghostbusters firehouse. Such a perfect location for that story and those characters. I wasn’t expecting the set to actually be three separate floors on top of each other. I thought maybe each floor would be a separate set and they’d use movie magic to make it all seem like one location. Really awesome to see they actually built it top to bottom.

  • It would be great if they created a digital Ghostbusters reference library that contains absolutely every detail of the Ghostbusters world, a library so detailed it contains, as she said, the colour of the wall grout and brick castings…probably a copyright nightmare though, but great for the movie industry.

  • My wife and I went to the movies on Saturday and love it. Honestly, Phoebe is our favorite character in both Frozen Empire and Afterlife. I love how they developed her character, and just who she is the person, between the two movies. It’s also amazing how perfectly natural she looks on set, as young, black haired girl. if you go look at her in real life, she’s a young blonde woman, who actually looks to be quite a bit older than she really is. Whatever the case, she’s a wonderful actress.

  • I wish the movie was as good as the production design. It’s so disappointing how common it is to see this incredible level of loving care and attention to detail being put in by crew, just to have some disjointed mess of a film come out. Sometimes it feels like the people dressing the set are doing a better job of telling the story than the director.

  • The movie was the worst film I’ve ever paid to see. How did this film get the green light?! What a waste of money. I feel insulated as a fan of Ghostbusters. I canceled ALL my orders for Ghostbusters stuff after seeing the film. I feel like it beat me hahahaha. I feel like i need to walk away from Ghostbusters after that one

  • Very minor spoiler if that. Watched the new movie I didn’t like it. I gave it a 3/10. I even think the reboot couple years ago was better done with writing. This new film felt too much like marvel. And too wacky. And bit too female empowerment when I wanted strictly ghostbusting. The ending happened so fast it was a big let down. I strongly think bots are hyping this film up. Not the people.
