When planning a painting project for your home’s interior, furniture movement is crucial. Understanding the role of painters in furniture relocation can save you time and effort. It’s fun to discuss and eventually pick interior colors and determine how to deal with furniture in rooms awaiting new paint. Temporary storage is a great solution for those planning to paint the entire interior. For luxury furniture, space-saving tips can be used to move furniture efficiently around a room to paint.
To prepare for professional painters, it’s important to indicate where your belongings should be moved before the painting begins and remove furniture from the room as soon as possible. Furniture is always moved for interior painting to protect it and give painters plenty of space to access the walls. It depends on what furniture you’re moving as to whether it should be disassembled prior to moving. It’s easier to pack items that can be made into cover sheets and cover things if needed.
Painters move furniture at a cost, but there are tips on how to move your furniture before they arrive. The ideal time to paint any room is when it’s empty rather than holding all the furniture in the center of the room. We request our customers move all wall hangings, curtains, small items, and center furniture. We help if it’s bigger but never move it all. If the ceiling is being painted, the furniture will need to be moved again to make the ceiling accessible. If the room is not very large, the piled-up furniture may need to be moved again.
Most painting companies have their own Standard Operating Procedures about moving furniture. Ecopainting can help with furniture movement, while others may leave it up to homeowners. There should be at least 2-3 feet of space between all the walls and any furniture or decorations.

I’m an 87 years old male and have a solid wood desk 6 foot high and 5 foot wide and 2 foot deep and weights about a million tons. But I can lift it by myself to slip a slider under the bottom by using a length 1 x 3 hardwood about 2 foot long and a short piece of wood about 3 inches long and 1 and a half inches thick. All you do is slip the end of the 1×3 under the edge of the item you wish to lift and lift the other end of the1x3 up and place the short length of wood under the 1×3 close to the piece of furniture you want to lift and push down with your hand or foot and up comes the piece of furniture high enough to slip the slider under the leg.
1:03 I’ve lived alone most of my life and have had to move heavy furniture by myself many times. I just recently purchased furniture sliders and wanted to see if one person can use them without help, which you, thankfully, showed. The way I moved heavy furniture in the past was a little bit at a time. You can’t do this using only your arms. You have to use your whole upper body strength to do this: 1. Stand on one side of the furniture. 2. Move that side of the furniture away from the wall as far as you can (it’s usually only a half inch or so initially). 3. Switch sides. 4. Move the other side of the furniture away from the wall as far as you can. 5. Switch sides. 6. Repeat above steps. You can move the furniture more than 1/2 inch after initially getting it away from the wall. 7. As you are moving the furniture, start turning it towards the direction you need it to go. 8. If you’re having difficulty sliding the furniture on your floor, you may need to slightly lift up one corner of the furniture (using your entire upper body for strength) then slide the furniture while that corner is lifted. When I say “lift up”, it usually only has to be raised by a millimeter or so. I’ve moved heavy oak dressers; a heavy wooden loft bed; bookcases; and more using that method. It’s a slow process, but it works. I even have weak knees and can still use this method. I purchased the sliders in order to move things faster. Lol
Holy molly! With his build, he couldn’t move w/o those sliders?? He looks like he could lift that sucker with one arm, toss it around his waist like a hulu hoop, and throw it down the stairs!! GOOD NIGHT!!! My being 76 and weaker than a child..in trying to move my Lowrey ROYALE organ from bedroom to the LR: As I push and press against the organ, like a squealy little puppy, I’d likely spontaneously explode, cracking and shattering like a CHAMPAGNE glass onto the concrete!!😬BUT..I think Harbor Freight has these sliders. Using a lever I can likely shove the sliders under the cabinet…and watch what happens. Gads!! Maybe I’m strong enough that a sudden push would set the organ into motion…RIGHT THRU the bedroom wall. OMG!!
