How do I make my porch light smart?
To enhance outdoor lighting in your home, consider replacing old bulbs with cloud-connected ones with built-in radios that sync with your home network. Affordable options include those that can connect directly to your phone or router via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Zigbee-compatible bulbs require a hub to translate signals, such as Philips Hue Bridge, Amazon Echo Plus, and smart hubs from Wink and SmartThings.
If the bulb is not directly exposed to the elements, you can choose any bulb, but for weather-rated bulbs, such as Feit’s “HomeBrite”-branded Bluetooth floodlight or Philips Hue’s weather-rated floodlight, opt for weather-rated bulbs. These options are available in a two-pack for $50.
Where should lanterns be placed at home?
Candlelight is a magical element, especially during the fall months. Indoor lanterns can add a cozy atmosphere to living rooms, with smaller ones adding an ambient glow on sofa tables and larger ones anchoring the room when set in corners or at the foot of chairs or side tables. However, it’s important to consider the lantern’s height when using them on tables, as taller ones may obstruct views. Indoor lanterns can also serve as eye-catching design elements, especially for extra-large or oversized ones, ideal for corners, fireplaces, or bathroom vanity locations. For ambient lighting, flameless or traditional candles can be a great addition.

Thank you so much for tuning in today! I hope that you all enjoyed these porch decor ideas, and give them a try! These are great for a covered porch, but if you intend to place in direct weather, use a weather proof protective finish. Also, add weight to the barrels (rocks etc..) and secure the lantern to a sturdy structure to prevent tipping. Enjoy!!!
The lantern is awesome! Love that you used black – makes it look so high end. Dividing the hanger is clever and looks beautiful. The other options of lights or a candle are great making it easy to change it out through out the year! I love this lantern. The Two Tiered Barrel Planter is so unique and beautiful. Love that it’s tiered and it’s just an amazing look. It’s got a fantastic construction that will withstand the elements of outside. I also feel this planter coordinates so well with the lantern! Definitely making both of these projects for my porch!!
It’s really hard to say. My grandson is getting married October 8th and it’s going to be one of those barn wedding. Both of this would be great for decor at his wedding, just painted a different color. The lanterns would look great sitting on the floor with fairy lights and a little floral. Maybe on the table with the grooms cake. Now I’m getting excited. But I definitely loved the tiered planter and with some floral and lights also. Thank you for sharing!!!
Hi Dee. This one is beautiful! Two questions. I apologize if this was stated but I missed it. 1. How many boxes of tumbling tower boxes did you use(or # of blocks) And… 2. What are the dimensions without the fineal? I’m going to have to order the blocks online if I can’t find a nice clean and stocked store near me. They really need to up their game so we don’t have to stick to purchasing minimum amounts. That’s a bit frustrating 🤷 But anyway. Great job. Your creativity amazes me
You are 100 percent my favorite crafter. I adore everything you do. Thank you for filling up my crafter’s list for at least a year or more! You have kept me busy and trust me when I say that this past year has been hard. I lost my crafting drive when, I lost my brother to cancer, my mother to parkinson’s and my grandmother to natural causes. Then my 16 year old son was in Childerns Hospital after the doctors found a cyst that was 4in thick and 5in wide from a wreck he was in. Now my 30 year old was diagnosed with something called STV. Life has been has been mentally tough on me. So I try to keep busy with crafting. Thank you for being a positive mental support for me. 😍

Did you just BREAK OFF a zip tie. 😲 Did I miss something, was it not a plastic zip tie? I need my needle nose pliers to just help pull them tight. I just love your wood projects! I can tell from a picture when they just pop up, when it’s one of yours. 😊 I know you try so hard to please everyone and I can well imagine that you probably get posts when some feel you’re not. I don’t have, and not sure if I will be able be to buy a circuit (spelled ?). So I just waited on new posts. You did not disappoint, I just love ❤️ these and can’t wait to make them!! You are my favorite for so many reasons. Last thing, I know you’ve listed it for us a couple of times (and I’ve tried to find it 😂) at least some of the main size screws and things you use most. 😬 I’m trying to build my little box, my husband was very impressed that I even had a little sectioned box to put his contributions in. I would like to have my own so I wouldn’t have to go to him when when one of my few things don’t work. Thank you and again HEY HEY, you are the best!
These both are my favorites 😍. I love, love your projects. I’ve learned alot from you. I appreciate how u explain everything so it’s easy to follow along. And your creations are brilliant and beautiful. Truely👍. Thank you, I so look forward to your next article. I’m making these 2 projects for my porches this year.

My daughter has just had her first house built from her design and I think that she would absolutely love to display all of them on her indoor front porch!! My youngest daughter saw these and wants them first. LOL thank you for sharing 💕 blessings..
I absolutely LOVE those barrels Dee‼️ Managed to find n get myself a few this year. But you ALWAYS take a neat Dollar Tree piece n turn it into something FABULOUS girl‼️ These are fantastic my friend!!! Did you put so gravel in the bottom to weigh them down n help keep them upright? I definitely would if I decide to dupe these. Thank you SO very much for sharing your brilliant ideas n crafts with us‼️ We are truly blessed to have your talent made available to us n for that I’m sincerely appreciative❣️💜💜💜
Beautiful as usual, and of course a favorite??? Umm, I love them both! But the lantern is phenominal. I’m digging through my scrap wood today. My brother is a cabinet designer. He does some really beautiful work, and keeps me loaded up with all kinds of wood. I’m so lucky. Thank you again Dee. You’re truly amazing! 💞💞
Girl, you knocked both of these diys outta the park 👋. That lantern is super cute and looks so high-end painted in black. Loved the look with the fairy lights too. And that tiered planter is also super cute. Funny thing when you were putting the screw in the bottom of the planter while turned upside down, it looked like a lamp shade..🤔💡. How versatile is that 😂. Thanks for sharing your creativity with us. You’re awesome! 💜
Good afternoon She so Crafty Dee, This is first time perusal your diy article website. I found it accidentally. I am glad I did. I love both diy items. I may try the planters. I just finished making a lantern with picture frames. I will subscribe to your diy YouTube website from Louisiana. Looking to your next diy project. Thank you 🙏. You stay safe 😷 and stay strong 💪🏽.
If I lived near you I would try to be your BFF 😂, I just love your creativity, When I saw the tall lantern I said to myself “oh I could make that from the garden stakes I bought at a discount store near me”, then when I saw the article and saw that’s exactly what you used it was absolutely perfect, I am going to be heading to Lowe’s today to try to find those toppers that you use, I assume they’re in the lumber part of the store with all the balusters and what nots, probably under where they sell all the trim?
Oh Dee I love them both. I want to make both. I would have to make them for indoors since I really don’t have room on my tiny porches…LOL. I think I would love to add some little pot hangers to both. The lantern I would take one of the little square blocks from DT and one of the blocks like you used for the shelf and glue together and make a place to hang the pot hangers as if they were climbing the legs. I would also add them to the other one. You are so awesome and thank you for sharing your talent.
