To make a door quieter when closing, consider using lubrication on the hinges and latches. Regular application may be necessary as friction can develop over time. Soft close hinges and quiet closers are some of the best silent door closing solutions to reduce noise from slamming doors. Soundproofing your doors can enhance your quality of life, whether you work from home, live in a bustling urban area, or simply want a quieter living space.
To make doors close quietly, follow these simple steps:
- Use a smart straw spray lubricant to stop squeaks and loosen rusted parts.
- Use weatherstripping tape to close small gaps in the door frame. Weatherstripping tape is like foam with an adhesive side that will stick to any surface.
- Realign the hinges, install door bumpers, install foam seal around the door jamb, soft close door hinges, automatic quiet door closer, rubber door silencers (metal doors), and silent door latch covers.
- Use white lithium grease for internal components to quiet down metal-on-metal and slow down the sound.
- Use soundproofing foam made of thick and sound-absorbing materials.
- Place felt pads around a door frame to soften the blow of a closing door.
- Try placing thin foam or felt stick on the inside of the door frame where the door contacts it to lower the sound of wood to wood.
- Use HushBumps Polymer Gel, a low-cost solution that provides soft padding against the door when it closes and prevents it from slamming shut.
In summary, lubricating hinges and latches, realigning hinges, installing door bumpers, foam seals, soft close door hinges, automatic quiet door closers, rubber door silencers, and silent door latch covers can help make doors quieter and more comfortable.

Something that is missing that I can’t find any information on it. How do you put lighting in a soundproof room? I’m doing a living room next to a bedroom, I’m soundproofing both of them. My installation is currently 2×4 full of insulation, all outlet/switch box have putty pad, sonopan, resilient website and 1 (maybe 2) fire-rated 5/8 gyspum board on all wall and ceiling. I had plan to install pot light, but these will create many huge hole in the ceiling from the gypsum to the sonopan themself. And more, since they are installed into a octogonal box, this box need to be fixed to the joist which will remove any benefit of the resilient website. I know there’s some that you can “clip” directly in the drywall, no back box required, but then it means I will have very little space between it and the sonopan for airflow and could put too much heat on the sonopan and start a fire, not a good idea. I also though about doing bulkhead but these require to be attached to stud and joist, again making the resilient website useless… So how would I do a basement ceiling in a soundproof room where light need to be installed?
