In today’s video I’ll be giving you all some home decorating tips, styling ideas, and my go-to decorating tips for a high-end space.
How do I choose timeless decor?
Neutrals are a popular choice for timeless interiors, with a strong presence in the color palette. Beiges, greys, and whites are particularly effective in accentuating open-plan spaces and creating continuity. Unlike the 1960s and 80s, neutral palettes never date. However, adding personality and feeling to a home is possible. Warm whites create an inviting space, while cool whites are perfect for neutralizing spaces with natural light and minimalist style. Timeless interiors don’t have to be all white. Cool greys add glamour, warm greys create a relaxed feeling, and navy blues, dark greens, and blacks are often used to complement a neutral palette.

How to decide home decor style?
Dig into your design preferences by considering your favorite colors, materials, and whether you lean towards modern or traditional vibes.
Explore various popular interior design styles like Art Deco, Traditional, Industrial, Scandinavian, and Mid-Century Modern to find what resonates with you.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match different interior design styles to create a personalized space that reflects your unique taste.
How to avoid matchy matchy decor?
To avoid a flat interior design, avoid too much matching in home decor. Instead, focus on individual pieces that you like and mix and match styles. Avoid repeating fabric patterns, using multiple wood tones, and mixing and matching styles. Instead, opt for a variety of furniture sets, such as bedframes, nightstands, and dressers, in your bedroom or living room. Instead of buying the whole set, choose individual pieces that you like and mix colors and textures. Remember, matching is not a good thing in decorating, as it can make your home look one-dimensional.
What are the factors to be considered while selecting accessories?
It is of the utmost importance to ensure that the accessory colors chosen are in harmony with the overall ensemble, as this will contribute to a sense of visual cohesion. Neutral tones or subtle metallics are complementary to one’s skin tone, offering versatility for both professional and informal attire. The use of color in wardrobe choices serves to enhance one’s image and confidence. Accessories serve to convey one’s personality and individuality, thereby aligning with one’s personal brand.
How to choose accessories for home?
The term “scale” is used to describe the size of an item in relation to the overall dimensions of the room. In contrast, the term “weight” is used to describe the visual impact of a decorative accessory. Proportion is frequently determined by the item’s shape and size in comparison to the room.
What are the selection criteria for the interior accessories?
Before shopping for art and accessories, it is crucial to have a clear idea of the theme or style of your interior design project. Balance the scale and proportion, mix and match styles and textures, and add personality and meaning to your space. Art and accessories are the finishing touches that can make or break your project, adding personality, color, texture, and interest to your space. To choose the right pieces, start by establishing a thematic direction that aligns with the client’s preferences and intended atmosphere.
Select art pieces that complement the chosen theme, incorporating diverse mediums and styles to add layers of visual interest. Thoughtfully curated accessories, such as sculptures, vases, or textiles, contribute to the overall narrative and enhance the aesthetic appeal. By meticulously integrating a theme across art and accessories, the interior design becomes aesthetically pleasing and tells a cohesive and meaningful story within the space.
What is quiet luxury interior design?
Quiet luxury is a minimalistic style of luxury that is only noticeable to those who know about the brand, focusing on elegance and subtlety. This trend is gaining popularity due to the rise in interest in “old money” and the class rules of the elite. The movement aims to be perceived as rich without the associated tags of “tackiness”. The focus is on living luxury rather than flaunting it to those who don’t get it, with elements such as high-quality materials, antique details, and velvet and linen soft furnishings. The movement is promoting elegance and subtlety, standing the test of time, and is gaining popularity on social media.
What are the classification of accessories in interior decoration?
The basic accessories can be grouped into seven categories: lighting, wall hangings, tabletop objects, collectibles, sculpture, flowers and plants, and party decorations. Of these, lamps are the most useful room accessories.
How do I match my home decor?
When mixing-and-matching styles, it is essential to follow a common color palette to avoid visual overwhelm. This can be achieved by using two neutral shades and two accent colors, allowing the focus to be on a statement piece. For example, a custom-created sofa from Universal Furniture’s Coastal collection or a Transitional sideboard can be a great choice.
Skip matching sets, which can dominate the room’s tone, as they can be easily customized using Universal Furniture’s To The Trade digital-design tools. They offer over 400 fabric options and 50 leathers for special-order items.
Feature accent pieces, but don’t over-use them. Mixing and matching furniture is an exercise in balance, and it is recommended to pare back on smaller accents like pillows, art, wall coverings, and tabletop accessories. Instead, consider texture as a viable accessory, such as the smooth marble of a Modern counter table or the velvety-soft faux fur of a Transitional accent chair. Mixing different textures can create visual interest and tie together seemingly disparate styles.

Hi Jenna! Can you tell me where you found the rustic riser you showed under your tv (I believe)….had a small bowl, candle and black vessel w/plant. 3:39. I’d love to know where you find more of your risers/vessels/etc. I watch all the time but some pieces I don’t know if I’ve seen. Anyway, love your design style! Many thoughts you shared are ideas I find myself doing….using the same piece in multiples, etc. Great article, thanks!!

Repetition . It’s taken me many years to nail down a styling formula for my semi-open concept home, but, I finally got there. I love a seasonal re-fresh and always stick to a tight color palette that I use in varying percentages in each room. Patterns and textural elements also come into play. Water Hyacinth baskets were my textural choice for Summer 2023. I paired this with a Navy/light blue/off white and khaki palette and stripes were the pattern. I love the New England coastal vibe and you won’t find a cheesy sign or sea shell here. Great Tips Jenna!
