To create a rough opening for a new exterior door, use exterior epoxy to cement the dowel into the hole and fill gaps with spray foam insulation. Sand the dowel and epoxy down until it is flush with the door, wipe the dust away, and paint or stain the door as necessary. Exterior doors are an important security investment and can give your home an immediate upgrade. To weatherproof the rough opening, install drainage at the sill and layers of flashing around the door.
To install weatherstripping for doors, go outside, close the door behind you, measure the vertical distance between the door threshold and the top of the door, and fill the hole in your metal door with filler. Use a putty knife to add a dollop at a time, scrape the filler flush with the door, and allow it to cure for the recommended length of time. To avoid patching siding, order a door assembly that will fill the space, which may mean asking for special exterior trim that’s wider than standard 2-in.-wide “brick molding”.
When opening the door, there should be a groove around the door. Use acoustic door seal to expand automatically and fill the big gap firmly. Place a bead of caulk along the top and bottom edges and hold the caulk gun at the bottom corner of the door frame, right in the middle. If the door is an exterior door, use Smart-foam, which is low expanding and won’t distort the frame. For interior doors, leave the gap and use expanding foam to fill deeper cracks and provide insulation around the door frame.
Measure the diameter of the door opening and cut off the section to fill the hole with a wooden dowel. Glue-carpenter’s wood glue, sand, and paint the door as necessary.

I just got back from the dentist and I went out for a smoke and the wife would have killed me if she knew I was smoking and she would have known if the screen door was busted. Just my luck the door came off the tracks when I came back in and I knocked on all my neighbors doors to no avail. I had no faith in YouTube articles but I gave it a shot and within 30 seconds I fixed it!!! Thank you lifesaver!!!!
