How To Paint A Door Outside Without Using A Brush?

To paint a door without brush marks, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the door from its hinges.
  2. Choose the correct paint color.
  3. Add conditioner to the paint.
  4. Sand away old brush marks and imperfections.
  5. Repeat the sanding process after every coat.
  6. Use the correct painting technique.
  7. Use roller covers instead of brushes.
  8. Use roller brushes for a smoother finish.
  9. Use roller covers to create a clean surface.
  10. Use roller brushes to avoid scuff marks, peeling paint, sun fading, and insect activity.

By following these steps, you can paint your front door without leaving brush marks, preventing frustration, disappointment, and embarrassment when family, friends, and passersby see the painted area.

To paint a front door without brush marks, start by choosing the right exterior door paint in the proper finish and color. This is the best paint for an exterior door.

To avoid paint brush marks, use a foam roller to smooth out any marks. A foam roller ensures no brush marks or roller marks, resulting in a beautiful even finish.

To prepare the door before painting, start by sanding the entire door. Lay it out on sawhorses and use a spray gun or roller, or use a roller after brushing the paint on. A small roller can be used for painting behind a window.

Using an extender and a micro-fiber cover (1/4″) can also give good results. Stipple is a fine-tipped method that closely simulates a spray finish.

In summary, painting a front door without brush marks is a simple and affordable DIY project that can result in a beautiful, even finish. By following these steps, you can achieve a flawless paint job without the need for a fancy paint sprayer or roller.

  • Maam! you took a very big and a tall door to repaint…. very well explained and nice job completed. May be you add some tips of using the ladder safely ..at some time when you were explaining the area/sections to paint..I was much worried about your balance on the ladder….and with such heigh ladder…I am happy to see you completing the job 😉..great article with all the risks that you took for your viewers..😃..Thank you.

  • I’ve watched so many ‘how to paint a door’ articles and so far no one has impressed me with technique and results like you have. I’m a newbie at using semi-gloss and doing exterior so I know my job won’t be as perfect as yours BUT I think I’m going to do a decent enough job as long as I am patient, use my eye and follow your guidance. Thank you so much. HERE GOES!

  • Looks beautiful! That is a HUGE front door! What about the weather stripping around the door? I’m assuming we have to remove all weather stripping first. When do we reinstall the weather stripping? We had a professional painter paint our front door last time and we left the weather stripping off for a couple days but the paint STILL stuck to the door frame and pulled the paint off even after drying all day (its dry and warm where we live). How to avoid this??

  • This looks like a textured (grained)fiberglass insulated door. I agree with your recommendation of painting one rectangle at a time on the door and wiping paint off adjacent areas on a smooth steel door. However, since this door is textured (grained), it wouldn’t show slight brush marks even if you didn’t wipe it off.

  • I really hate to be the only person with a negative remark but when you paint any door that has visible wood grain you will never see brush strokes also on an 80 degree day marquee will dry sufficiently to close the door in 1 hour I’ve been using it since it first came on the market in my business it out preforms Both of the other top brands, plus semi gloss paint does not lay down any more efficiently than any other finish but you do have good technique with the brush
