To ensure safety, start with a clean cooker, utensils, and work area, wash hands before and during food preparation, and refrigerate perishable foods until preparation time. Store meat and vegetables separately in the refrigerator, as the slow cooker may take several hours to reach a safe, bacteria-killing temperature.

To clean aluminium surfaces, start with mild dish soap, warm water, and a non-abrasive scrubbing pad. Use an acid-based solution to remove discolouration, stubborn stains, and aluminium oxidation. Acidic cleaners are readily available or easy to make using common kitchen ingredients like lemon juice, white vinegar, and cream of tartar. Leave items to soak in an acid solution diluted with boiling water for 10-15 minutes or create a paste using cream of tartar and warm water. Calcium residue from wash water or recipe ingredients can cause residue in ceramic pots of Slow Cookers. To clean, pour vinegar into the pot and dilute it with water. Wipe the inside surfaces with a soft pad, rinse with water, and dry. The silicone seal around the lid can retain the odor of food cooked in the Slow Cooker, especially when using spicy or onion-based ingredients. KitchenAid® recommends removing the seal from the lid for cleaning, as food residue or wash water can become trapped between the seal and lid. The odor does not affect the unit’s performance but can be removed by following the cleaning instructions included in the box.

I am just a little confused because I noticed on my instructions for my crock pot it said to NEVER lock the lid while cooking I then went online and it said the same thing and then called the company and they confirmed the lock is just for carrying the crock pot is not to be used as a pressure cooker it could explode with all the steam building up. So perhaps there are different crock pots with different instructions but just for safety make sure it supposed to be locked. REPLY
I have the exact same one and I love it! But the settings on mine don’t read “Low, High and Warm.” Instead, on mine it reads “I, II and instead of warm there’s a little picture of a crock pot.” That’s not too confusing right? I mean, why it just doesn’t say “Low, Med, High” is beyond me because technically “warm” or in MY case “crock pot symbol,” IS Medium. (Exhale) Oh what a tangled web we weave!
Thanks for this article. I bought this today…could not for the life of me figure out how to lock it….I knew it was something simple I was missing (it was!) but I didn’t want to bring it back and look like a fool lol, so I searched Youtube & found this article….Thanks! And btw, I like the non-electronic kind like this better, because 1. the electronic ones break more often and 2. it’s best to monitor anyhow. Can’t wait to use it!
I have a Frigidaire that is about 1.5 yrs old. It has started to stop after half a basket of ice. The red light comes on, saying I need to add water. It has water, I’ve cleaned the fins of dust, blew the hose & both locations where the hose connects. Cleaned with vinegar/water… I watched the water travel through hose into tray… so I know it isn’t plugged. Might it be I need a new pump!?
I bought this ice machine cleaner through Amazon and the bottle says only to mix 4 oz per 1 gallon. I just put in a couple of teaspoons after about six cups of water and that should be thorough enough I hope?
