In this video, the author discusses the process of fixing a cracked plastic bucket. The video covers various methods to repair a broken plastic bucket, including using a plastic welding kit, epoxy resin, or a plastic patch. The key to repairing a broken plastic bucket is to determine which method is best for the crack. Smaller cracks can be fixed with glue, hot water, or plastic slurry, while larger cracks may require welding.
To fix broken plastic, start by applying super glue or high-strength plastic glue to the broken edges of the plastic. Press the adhesive onto the crack and press it down. Tape fix works best for buckets not routinely used for holding liquids, but it can be effective even for liquid storage. Most available adhesives will form a strong bond with the plastic.
To repair a broken plastic bucket, clean the bucket, dry it off, put on rubber gloves, apply super glue to the crack, and glue some screws. Measure the diameter of the bucket and mark it on plywood. Use a scrap metal bracket to measure the middle of the length and mark it on the plywood.
Smaller cracks can be fixed with glue, hot water, or plastic slurry, while larger cracks may require welding with a soldering iron. Melt the plastic with a nail and place them in the middle of the crack. Use the soldering iron to melt zip ties and cover the wire.
One common step when repairing broken plastic objects is joining two or more pieces together. This guide provides a step-by-step guide on how to repair a broken plastic bucket and save money.

How to fix broken plastic without glue?
To repair a damaged item, gently heat the tip of a soldering iron over the joint where the two surfaces connect. This will liquefy the soft plastic on either side, merging and rehardening the connection. Whenever possible, solder pieces along the backside to make the seam less visible. For safety, wear protective eyewear and a respirator or breathing mask while operating the iron. If a section is missing, find a replacement piece with similar color, texture, and thickness. Fuse the patch like a normal crack by running the tip of the soldering iron along the edges until it melts into the larger surface.
What is the strongest glue for cracked plastic?
Cyanoacrylate Super Glue is a versatile adhesive suitable for various repairs and projects, including plastics. It works best when surfaces are less smooth, so it’s recommended to sand the plastic surface before applying the adhesive. Infinity Bond MMA 500 is the best structural adhesive for plastic bonding, bonding difficult plastics like Polyethylene (PE) and Polypropylene (PP) better than most available products. Infinity Bond Rubber and Plastic Super Glue Cyanoacrylate is ideal for general purpose bonding, especially when using rubber substrates.
Infinity SuperTAC 500 is the best hot melt glue stick for plastic bonding, offering good heat resistance and bonding to various plastics like PP, PE, PET, and PVC. These glue sticks outperform many other plastic bonding glue sticks while maintaining a cost-effective price per pound.
Which epoxy is best for plastic?
LePage offers two-part epoxy glue for plastic products, including the Speed Set Instant Mix Epoxy, which is easy to use and has a five-minute set and one-hour cure time. The two reactive agents are separated, ensuring freshness for future projects. LePage also offers a premium gel epoxy for thicker glue resistance and filler for missing plastic fragments. The syringe-style dual tube design simplifies mixing, dispenses resin and hardener in appropriate amounts, avoiding difficulty in measuring.
Can glue fix broken plastic?
Loctite Super Glue All Plastics is a specialty super glue designed for hard-to-bond-to plastics like polypropylene and polyethylene. It comes with an activator that needs to dry for 60 seconds for bonding and dries transparent for near-invisible repairs. Loctite Epoxy Plastic Bonder is an epoxy formula that bonds to common plastics like PVC, Delrin, and ABS. It hardens to a rigid, high-strength bond in 20 minutes and is resistant to most solvents, making most repairs quick and easy.
How to repair cracked plastic containers?
To reconnect a crack in plastic, use plastic glue, a specially formulated adhesive, often used for making models. This is easy to use and safe to handle for adults. Hot water is suitable for small cracks, while plastic slurry can be used to weld larger cracks. It’s important to have enough glue to connect the entire crack, as you don’t want to stop after applying strong glue. Super glues can also be used, but check the packaging to ensure they can be applied to plastic.
How to patch hard plastic?
To fix a chipped edge or reattach a larger object, a strong adhesive may be necessary. Plastic glues are formulated to create bonds between plastic surfaces on a molecular level. Look for a product designed for the type of plastic you’re repairing. Super glues can also be applied to plastics with good results. You can find a wide selection of plastic glues, super glues, and craft adhesives at hardware stores or home improvement centers.
To ensure a secure hold, dab the adhesive everywhere it will connect with the larger object and release a small amount at a time. Wear rubber gloves when working with plastic glue to prevent it from getting on your skin.
How to fix a hole in a plastic bucket?
To fill small plastic holes, use a makeshift cement made from super glue and baking soda. For larger holes, melt new plastic using a plastic welder. Fix larger holes with a mesh fiberglass patch and 2-part epoxy. Attach a sturdy cardboard piece with tape or a hand clamp, and place a back piece behind the hole to prevent material from running through. Create a small pool at the bottom of the hole with super glue, as it dries quickly.
How to seal plastic containers at home?
The speaker’s objective is to ascend the structure in a controlled manner, navigating around the periphery and ultimately reaching the apex. This is to be achieved in a single minute, with the aim of creating a seamless and tamper-proof seal.
How to seal a leak in plastic?
Adhesive-based solutions like plastic glue, epoxy, or silicone sealant are effective for fixing leaks in plastic containers. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions and apply the adhesive to both surfaces. The Loctite Plastics Bonding System is a two-part adhesive designed for bonding plastic materials, consisting of a surface activator and super glue. The surface activator prepares the plastic surface, while the super glue creates a strong bond to fix the leak. However, this product emits a slight odor and may be toxic if ingested, so use caution and follow the packaging instructions.
How to mend a broken plastic bucket at home?
To fix cracked plastic, gather materials, gather plastic pieces, stay safe, work in a well-ventilated, protected area, prepare surfaces, prepare adhesive and activator (if applicable), apply activator, apply adhesive, and clean up. A few drops of glue are enough to make broken objects look like new. The best adhesive for a job depends on the job, with some products better suited for large projects and others for bonding specific types of plastic.
Loctite Plastics Bonding System is formulated for bonding difficult materials like polyethylene, polypropylene, and Teflon, while epoxy Loctite Plastic Bonder offers versatility and water resistance. Consider whether the adhesive is needed for interior or exterior applications and how you want to repair the object.
How do you seal a hole in a water bucket?
Adhesive-based solutions like plastic glue, epoxy, or silicone sealant are effective for fixing leaks in plastic containers. Follow manufacturer’s instructions and apply an activator to both surfaces, allowing it to dry before proceeding with the adhesive. The Loctite Plastics Bonding System is a two-part adhesive designed for bonding plastic materials, consisting of a surface activator and super glue. I was confused by “using a fork” but after perusal I saw that the metal fork was heated up like a soldering iron. When it was applied to the plastic crack it melted the plastic together to create a seal. So, how long did this fix last ? So a soldering iron tip would have done the same job. Thanks 🙂
