How do I organize my baby’s bedroom?

Nursery organization tips for a clutter-free space include choosing minimalism, keeping the crib clear, choosing double-duty furniture, utilizing space under the crib, investing in drawer organizers, installing shelves in the closet, using storage bins, and organizing diaper-changing supplies. The choice of furniture and arranging your baby’s room depends on how much you use it throughout the day. Some families use the nursery for storage, while others view it as the place where their child spends most time, such as sleeping, playing, nursing, and changing their diapers. Ultimately, the organization of your nursery is a personal decision that depends on your family’s needs and preferences.

To ensure your baby’s nursery is an optimal sleep environment, keep it simple, keep the room temperature consistent, block out blinds on windows, avoid hanging mobiles over the cot, use white noise, and swaddle up. When preparing for your baby’s arrival, focus on creating a beautiful space that provides the best chance of a good night’s sleep. Here are some tips to help you create a simple and comfortable nursery:

  1. Keep the room temperature consistent, ensuring it’s at least a comfortable temperature.
  2. Use block out blinds on windows, avoid hanging mobiles over the cot, use white noise, and swaddle up.
  3. Use white noise to create a soothing atmosphere, and avoid using mobiles over the cot.

What color should I paint my baby boy’s room?

Traditional baby boy nursery ideas typically feature a blue and white color scheme and a white or light wood crib. Pale blue and white are popular for crib bedding, paint, and wallpaper. Dark blue walls with white stripes and curtains can be used, along with pops of bright colors like red or orange. To create a striped accent wall, apply painter’s tape and paint the first color over the wall, then add the second color. Using a zoo or Native American theme with animals can encourage a love for animals. Toy boxes with safety features can be used, as can wall murals or animal stencils on dressers or chests.

When should I start Organising my baby room?

Starting a nursery during the second trimester of pregnancy is recommended as it provides a more energizing and motivated environment for preparing the room. However, each pregnancy is unique, so it’s best to tailor the process to your preferences. Many parents aim to complete most of the work by the end of the second trimester, as it’s also the time they host baby showers and receive gifts. A well-equipped and safe nursery is crucial for your baby’s comfort and your peace of mind.

This will help you feel relaxed, calm, and in control, allowing you to focus on bonding with your baby.

Can a baby boy and girl share a room?

There is no age cutoff for opposite-sex children to separate rooms, but parents should monitor their children’s development and make decisions accordingly. As children become more aware of the need for modesty, they may feel uncomfortable changing in front of an opposite-gender sibling. However, by puberty, it becomes more difficult for them to feel comfortable sharing and room, so it is crucial to respect their need for privacy and space.

  • I love your style! We’re moving soon and I’m getting so many great ideas for our new house. My 7 year old is obsessed with your website and, not only did she cry happy tears with your bump reveal article, she’s now convinced she “needs those clouds” in her room. She just wants to add sparkles to hers, lol. Thanks for all the great content! Send love & healthy pregnancy juju your way. 💙

  • Love the vibe, love the green-gray against the charcoal and white, love love love! I will say, as a boy mom, I was kind of cackling inwardly when you mentioned that the book wall is going to be functional for his entertainment, because yeahhh, he’s gonna use that as a ladder. 😂 Mine was scaling bar stools to steal apples off the kitchen counter before he was a year old. It was super smart of you to hang each shelf separately!

  • AHHH LOVE IT!! That green color is stunning – you’re making me want to paint a dark colored room haha! Also the clouds are such a unique cool addition, never seen that before! p.s. for my little man (who’s a year and a half now) we had a crib with a bed for the first 9-10 months or so, and it’s amazing because sometimes you just want to sleep in there with them to know they’re safe, BUT it made it hard to feed him in there because I’d be so uncomfortable, so I ended up getting one of those bed pillows thats a back rest – game changer! (And now we moved the bed out and a chair in, which is honestly even better, but the bed was needed at the time so the back pillow made it work!)

  • Sadly it’s kinda insane how much stuff from Amazon ends up in a land fill after being returned. Kudos to you for making a more sustainable choice after you found out! Edit: Also, I forgot to say, the nursery looks amazing and your hair color looks SO GOOD against the dark green walls! I think I said “wow” out loud, haha

  • I love this makeover!! The only concern I thought of was the hanging clouds over the crib! I’m not sure if it is or not but it seems like it could be a potential hazard if for any reason they fall into the crib and cover babys face or are consumed! Maybe it may be safer in the corner above the mirror?? Don’t mean this comment in a negative way just didn’t know if it could be helpful 💕💕

  • Ooo its such a vibe 👏 I have a dark green living room and love it. Gives such a cosy feeling. I went with cream curtains so it was great to see your charcoal velvet option, looked amazing. A forested lake property would be an absolute dream for me too, so I’m excited to see everything else you do with it 🙏🏼

  • It’s so funny how the wallpaper came off – it just wasn’t meant to be! 😂 This green really is everything. 😍 It’s so soothing and calming, that I want to spend all my days in there. It was a bald move but I think people should question the crazy pinks and the blues – they for sure are not calming. 🙈 Oh and just one thing – I think the picture above the changing station is not a good idea, because soon enough he is going to start grabbing things and he could pull it onto his little head. 😬 Awesome job Cathrin! I don’t know why but it feels like this design is pivotal for you! And the ending to this article is so professional – real studio McGee vibes! 👏😁

  • Good Lord, this is the best nursery I’ve seen. The dark color is great for the room. A lot of people (most ) paint the baby’s room bright colors and that’s not sleep appropriate for a baby. Chefs kiss to this beautiful room. I low key want to live in that room lol . Jk . The clouds are awesome, just please make sure those clouds will not fall in the crib. Just perusal out for ya not trying to be an ass. Lol . Awesome JOB.

  • That curtain swap though! haha Seriously seeing you walk in with the biggest smile on your face was amazing! I LOVE what you did and with #2 on the way and having to think about how we’re going to make a nursery/guest room, this is just ALL the inspo! Lastly, I’ve never been a darker color kinda girl, but the pops of white just totally make the room so much brighter and have me re-thinking any thought I’ve ever had about darker colors in a room. LOVE IT! 😍

  • The best part is as the baby grows you can keep redoing the room to fit his needs and personality 😍 I love the clouds! Also, there was this cute floor mat that i got for my baby that might fit your aesthetic. It’s cool because it has an attached mobile and came with different toys. It was great for tummy time and just chilling out
