Regular car headliner cleaning is crucial for maintaining a fresh and inviting interior. It can restore appearance, eliminate odors, and ensure a healthier environment for you and your passengers. To clean the headliner, vacuum up large debris, conduct a spot-test with cleaner, tape off surrounding areas, apply the cleaner, gently scrub, blot with a microfiber towel, repeat if necessary, air dry, and use an odor eliminator if required.
To clean the headliner, use a spray bottle with clean water to lightly mist the entire headliner surface, removing any remaining detergent residue. Dry the headliner using a product that won’t leave a lot of foam or soap behind, as headliners are made of delicate material and held on by glue. There are three methods to clean the headliner: spot cleaning, steam cleaning, and using painter’s tape to create a protective barrier around the headliner.
For a quick and easy clean, use a Tornador Interior Cleaning Gun equipped with a Cone Brush and paired with Interior Cleaner. Pre-treating the headliner with fabric stain protectant like Scotchgard or mix water, household vinegar, and baking soda in a spray bottle to remove cigarette odor from the headliner or other interior surfaces. UV protectant spray not only keeps the headliner from fading but also helps it stay clean longer by preventing dirt and grime.
In summary, regular car headliner cleaning is essential for maintaining a fresh and inviting interior. Vacuuming the car’s interior regularly prevents dirt and dust from settling on the headliner, and using a good upholstery cleaner is recommended. If you spill something on the headliner, clean it with a microfiber towel, air dry, and use an odor eliminator if needed.

Chris figured life out and made his passion a win-win-win-win-win-win. He bought the car for cheap. He cleaned the car inexpensively. He may sell the car for a profit. He taught us how to super clean our car. He made money from this article and this knowledge will stay with us forever. He does this for a living. We love you Chris!
I’m a detailer; this is what I do for a living. But I still find myself perusal these articles, mainly because I love the positive attitude and good vibes you have in your articles. Not to mention, your processes oriented towards regular people who are just looking to clean their car up quickly themselves is also super helpful for when I have customers consult me about DIY cleaning small things at a time, I always find myself recommending things/products/methods I learn from your articles, or I just direct them towards your website. You do good work and manage to make it useful and a learning experience for even professionals; I feel like you don’t get enough appreciation for managing to successfully do that.
I’m part way through doing mine, I watched this article a while back for help. I’m using a set of drill brushes, some super clean, and my mother’s wet carpet cleaner vacuum. It’s important to get your carpets as clean as you can before you use the extractor because you don’t wanna gunk anything up and you also want it to do the best job it can. My plan is to get the interior clean, air it out, then put an ozone generator in it in order to try to get the smell out of it. Fortunately I seem to have already taken care of the ant infestation by vacuuming under the seats last weekend.
After deep cleaning the carpets like you did in this vehicle, I like to lug up a de-humidifier and stick it in there for a couple of hours while I do the seats and floor mats outside the car. Obviously if these are your own vehicles it’s not so time sensitive… but it really helps to full dry the carpets out.
I super cleaned the interior of my suv last weekend. All 3 articles it took 2 days but it was raining on and off all Saturday. Taking the seats out was hard because they had a lot of electronics: heated, ventilated, power everything etc. it was so rewarding when finished though. If I ever have to do it again it won’t take nearly as long.
Man you deserve every single penny you get considering the effort and all you have helped me. And probably deserve much more. Please don’t stop making these. I’m a pretty car inclined guy and I still learn a lot from you. Imagine all the people who aren’t car fanatics that you help? You really are a gift 🎁 to everyone
These interior cleaning vids are fantastic, picked up a lot of good tricks and my Sonata looks fkn great now. Just an FYI: this takes a SIGNIFICANT amount of time if you do it right. It took me around 3 hours each vid (carpets, interior, leather seats). Just be forewarned this ain’t no 30 min job. This is the type of detail you should do twice a year (fall/spring). Any more than that is overkill.
I’ve owned a carpet and upholstery cleaning and restoration company for 34 years. Couple tips for you to utilize with your extractor: Use tide powder, mixed at two tbs per gallon of warm water and utilize this as your prespray in a spray bottle, like you did the foamy cleaner. Its tons cheaper and works on all fibers better than most proprietary chemicals. Add 2 tbs of white vinegar to a clean water tank the size you’re using if you have any browning or yellowing you’re trying to remove, or just in general. This will reduce the ph of the clean water side and very much help remove presprays and soiling. Finally, suck into the dirty water side a small cap of liquid fabric softener and that will kill foam as it enters the machine. Fabric softener mixed with water, at 4-1 softener to water, misted onto carpeting will absolutely kill any static shock issues too.
You did an awesome job I watched all the way through and I’m motivated to do this on my older vehicle which I’m sure as a lot of build up. I was curious though what if you wanted to get at the base underneath and remove the carpet to get all the trapped debris? Is it easy to put back in? By the way that was satisfying to see fantastic results. You’re gifted not too many people have the time or patience and here you are making it look beautiful. 😊
I bought my first car and previous owner didn’t care to clean interior at all! Came across your articles and decided to give it a go. Oh man… Thank you very much for it, because my lovely car now looks like a brand new vehicle from the inside! Next step, scratch fix! Thanks to you, I will be able to restore it to its whole beauty. <3 Also, I love your articles, no bullshit, straight to the business explanations, but super detailed enough and also covering "just in case this is different" section 😀 Honestly, well done sir. Really well done and once again, thank you 🙂
Thank you so much for this article. Extractor vacuums are so expensive where I am, didn’t occur to me just using a wet vacuum could get basic shampoo-ing done for my car. Would recommend for casual people just wanting to do some simple extra cleaning on their cars. Super budget friendly at home solutions.
Me: Hasn’t watched a CF article in a while CF: HEY GUYS! Me: has mild heart attack Love it, though. I was a lot boy at a dealership as a teenager and deep cleaning cars was part of the job and there was nothing like the satisfaction of turning a trashed vehicle back to a shining beauty. Great job as always!
I bought everything in his article and it works but not with every car because every car is different like the way he cleaned the Ford works the same in most Fords but my Honda Fit Sport 2012 is much harder because of its fabric compared to Fords it has that mesh fabric on the seats and weird carpet material for under the mats and the trunk like it doesn’t have fluffyness to it at all it’s more like textured plastic than fabric and even a Ridgid shop vac could even clean it. But my brother’s Ford is clean exactly the way in the article. So, what I am saying here is that if your car is getting clean the same way as the cars in article it might be the fabric. Still 10/10 article.
Hi Chris, wow what a difference. My wife thinks we have a new van. It takes a lot of work but worth it. I wonder what you thought of armor all? I did order the brushes and we’ll worth the money. The clay bar didn’t take off some of the tar on the side of the van, any suggestions? Thanks again. I bet I’ve watched this article 5 times and have recommended it to several of. Y friends.
Chris: “I don’t think anyone is THAT dirty!” My step mother surpasses that with her 2010 GMC Terrain Edit: a month ago, at the time of editing this, the GMC finally had enough and died. She has a Lexus and it looks just as bad in a week of having it. Oh and also to add salt in the would someone decided to crash into her p a r k e d car. We now have a lovely dent in it.
I’ve never understood the want to vandalize somebody’s Vehicle out of spite but then again this is why I drive a 25 year old jalopy with faded and peeling paint. It made the time somebody dug their key in down the sides of the doors a lot less painful. Pretty darn sad to target personal possessions if I do say so.
Hi Chriss. Me and my 13 year old boy are learning how to detail a car with your articles. We use this as time ti spend with each other as well. First we watch a article. Then we go to the store. Then we get back and start cleaning. Then when questions come up we go back and watch the articles again. The way you talk about everything is wonderful. You take it step by step and covery everything. We really appreciate your hard work. We are now working on a 1999 jetta and soon we will be working on my 2008 toyota sienna. The 1999 jetta will be sold soon the sienna will be our camper van for trips. We love road trips and because of this well we love cars. Thank you once again for your great articles and hard work.
Chris! Would you ever consider making a article of sound proofing a car? How to install what sort of sound proofing material is best for what case and so worth? It would be cool to see a 100% coverage (Floor, doors. wheel archs, boot, headliner etc.) Please! like this so Chris will for sure see this ! Cheers !
Chris uploads a article Me: Months of waiting, no longer needed. I’m always excited for a new article and i dont even own a car yet Nah but for real. I really appericiate you telling tips and tricks, showing how to solve problems to helpful information And what i also appericiate is the active reacting under older articles. Keep it up Chris. And Also, nice punk hair 🙂
You make car cleaning look easy and effective. Taking out the seats is the best idea. I wonder only one thing: why wouldn’t you start at the top of the car . . . the headliner, then the windows and interior trim, etc.? In that way, you won’t take the chance of soiling the floor. Starting the cleaning at the top of rooms is the strategy for thoroughly cleaning a house: first, the ceiling, the walls, furniture tops, and sides. Then the carpets or other flooring.
Ty ty ty hope all is well with you and your family i wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING PPL ESPECIALLY ME SINGLE MOM. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ YOU ARE DEDICATED TO YOUR WORK AND IM HAPPY YOU SHOW PPL ESPECIALLY ME TY SENDING LOVE ❤❤❤❤ FROM MISSISSIPPI I POST UP MY UPDATED AT THE END OF JUNE I WILL GET ALL MY TOOLS TY
When you work as a detailer and want a promotion so you learn something new. A few tips to help anyone else out. 1. If you have access to a air hose use it before you start vacuuming to get loose dust and debris out of the interior vinyls and leather. 2. Clean the panels and leather before you vacuum so it goes faster. It sucks if you vacuum first and get dirt back into the clean carpet. Work in a Top to bottom manner. I usually vacuum last and start top. So headliner, air hose panels & leather then clean them, then seats (since they’ll still be in the car) then take them out to focus on the carpet. Also vinegar works great on removing hard water spots on the windows.
Hey CF love your articles. Good teacher and high standards. I wouldn’t teach everyone to unbolt the seats disconnect the harnesses and take out unless you are very experienced and good references. Sign a legal agreement before this. For the average Joe like me and everyone else. Go too fast. Slow down. You’ll end up getting someone in trouble who tries everything you teach. Thanks, my friend.
