Awesome website. Love the articles and all the information. I’m trying to figure out a new ceiling light for my office/library in my new home. The room is 10×11 feet, and the ceilings are about 10 feet. One wall is going to be floor-to-ceiling book shelves (deciding on a two tone warm and dark wood finish with library ladder). My husband wants a ceiling fixture in our 8ft living room. I prefer sconces but he does not believe they’ll produce enough light. I’m looking at flush mounts that would be a good scale for a room roughly 12’x 19’. And because the narrow entry hall adjoins it, I think it should be a similar style. Hi Julie, addicted to your website. My ceilings in the master bedroom and formal living room are partially vaulted the highest point is at 22ft and the lowest is at 9 ft. Another issue are the exposed beams and boards(which is actually the make up of my roof). I love the the style but because of the style of my ceiling roof, it’s very difficult to find appropriate lighting. Some people mentioned drywall then have electrical wires installed. That would take away from the beauty of the wood work.

It hasn’t arrived yet, so I am having a bit of anxiety regarding if I chose the right size or not. I think that it will be okay though. My ceiling is 23ft from floor, rounded reverse staircase with 2nd story window. Staircase walls roughly 18ft diameter, but it opens to a platform at the top, so it’s not all completely walled-in.. The lighting fixture is a 42″ diameter sphere made of crystals (handmade Etsy). It’s so pretty and sparkly! i really wanted a light and airy feel for my statement piece and overall vibe for the house. I am guessing that I should center it to the upstairs window, right? Omg! Lighting is so important to every room. It makes look there best or worst. I love the Philips hue light bulbs. Working with people who don’t want to install dimmers, I always suggest the Philips hue lights. They have amazing features so you don’t walk into a dark home because they turn on when you approach your door or before sometimes. Perfect for movie perusal, you can have them on a motion sensor so they are low and brighten when you enter a room. great for older people who need a little light. My ceiling is 8’. My dining table is 52″ in diameter. My dinning room is 13’ x 12’ and right next to it is the living room which is 11’ x15’. I’ve learned from your other episodes that it’s a great idea to place a mirror on this wall that attract the natural scenery from that window. But I wonder can I put a crystal chandelier with gold trim that may reflect from the mirror? Good morning hope things are well hope you’re staying safe thank you for all your great articles just had another question so the electricians are doing a lot of wiring in the new house and they are replacing all the old recessed lighting in the kitchen with new wait for LED recessed lighting on dimmers and smart switches but I have to replace the pendant lights over the island and the kitchen sink one I am having difficulties finding something that matches looking for gold or brass and crystal typically does the island pendant light and the light over the sink have to Match exactly and if so where is the best place to buy a matching set do not mind paying a little more to get the best looking fixtures that go well with each other I checked out Lowe’s and Home Depot haven’t had that much luck on a matching combo set I purchased a couple chandeliers from Macy’s and pier one imports but I did not realize I had to have a matching one for the kitchen sink One last question is it better to have a chandelier over the island independently or is there much difference which would be more recommended looking for a luxurious field to the kitchen there will be chandeliers in the living room and dining room and a few other places in the home so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated as always I hope you have a wonderful and blessed day your advice has helped my house becoming a beautiful home so far

My home has an open floor plan. Glamorous at first but frustrating when trying to create spaces. The lighting provided are what I call “booby” or “nipple” lights. The cheapest thing the builders could find right?. My problem is that the light fixtures don’t line up with any areas that I could create a space with. I had to use a hook that I screwed into the ceiling to move/hang my chandelier to be centered with my dining table.. I think my style is very eclectic and maybe transitional – I love mising items. We just moved into a home with some rather odd mid-century-like light fixtures everywhere (white and gold but midcentury shaped) I have added a linear cystal chandelier in our dinning room and a bronze star in our entry way but I don’t know how to tie them together in the hallways and kitchen. If I want to hang a fixture in the center of the room – above the table, it would hang from a vaulted ceiling, since the ceiling reaches the tallest point off center – I’m hoping I am explaining myself correctly… does it make sense for a chandelier to hang off of a vaulted ceiling (where it is still tilted)? I would love to hear your opinion, thanks!

I plan to have a sectional and 2 accent chairs. How do I measure to determine where these outlets should land?
Hi Julie, I’m so stuck in the middle of changing my light fixtures. I purchased 2 pendants lights that are smoke glass for the breakfast bar. Then I ran across a chandelier that is contemporary with off white shades from Lamps plus. My problem is the kitchen and dining room is connected with the bar separating the two rooms. Off course my home is small with eight foot ceiling and my dining room table is square so the chandelier I believe would look really nice over my table. I have tried for 2 days to find something to match the square shade of the dining room for the kitchen but I can not find anything other than a regular flush mount fixture that is too simple for me. Please any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it Thank you, so much

I am looking for a sizable lighting option for my 2 story/20 foot ceiling foyer over the staircase. I was really ga-ga over the one in this article at 4:23 (crystal inside a globe) and was wondering where it’s from and what size it is. Also, are there any rules on how long it should be as well since you only mentioned diameter? Any minimum distance necessary between one chandelier and another (ie. one over kitchen dining table and one over kitchen island in same room) and does your island have to be a minimum size to allow for a chandelier or pendant(s)? Hi Julie! I’ve been perusal a lot of tour articles lately and I want to thank you for giving us so many great tips. I just have a question on the dining light above the dining table. I think I watched another article of yours that said that the light should fill up the area above your dining table. So if we had a long rectangular table, I believe you had mentioned we can use 2 – 3 pendant lights above it. In this article, you only mention to use the 2 – 3 pendant lights above a kitchen island. Can you please help to clarify whether we should have two or three lights above a long dining table as well?
