How-To: Diy Pvc Raccoon Trap For Your Home?

This video demonstrates how to build a raccoon trap using leftover PVC pipe and a foothold trap. The trap frame is made from wood and wrapped with a large bucket. The trap should be sturdy enough to hold a sizable raccoon, and you don’t need to buy one either. You can create an effective homemade raccoon trap at little or no cost.

One DIY method involves bending a wire coat hanger into a cone shape and cutting a 20-inch PVC pipe in half along its length. Clamp the pipe to prevent movement. For this type of trap, you would need a tall garbage can, two cinder blocks, and bait. Place the garbage can in an accessible area and secure it with rocks or bricks to prevent tipping over.

Another DIY raccoon trap set includes a foothold trap and a 20-inch PVC pipe. The screws are run into the pipe in a circle at a downward angle, causing the trap to get stuck when it reaches in and grabs the bait. This trap is suitable for mink, muskrat, and raccoons.

In summary, creating a raccoon trap from leftover PVC pipe and a foothold trap is an effective and affordable way to control raccoon activity. By following these steps, you can create a trap that is both effective and fun to use.

What do raccoons hate the most?

Raccoons are intelligent nocturnal mammals that can cause significant damage to your property. They are most active at night searching for food, making it difficult to keep them off your property without proper planning. However, using scents like hot pepper, garlic, peppermint oil, onion, and Epsom salt can help deter them. Hot pepper is a potent scent that can irritate raccoons’ sense of smell, making it a good choice for removing them.

Another effective method is to mix onion and pepper with equal amounts of water, as the strong smell will only irritate their olfactory receptors. Accurate Pest Control offers various scents to help deter raccoons from entering your house and ensuring their removal for good.

What size trap is best for raccoons?

The best live traps for raccoons are large to extra-large, approximately 32-42 inches in length. They come in 1 or 2-door models, with the latter being preferred by professionals for better bait protection, easier entry for larger animals, higher catch rate due to dual entry, and ability to see through the trap to calm cautious animals. The trap should be checked regularly, and any attractants removed should be removed. The trap can be set with one or two doors open.

  • I just wanted to say that I would recommend putting the screws in. The gorilla glue or silicone caulking or adhesive would certainly not hurt, the main thing is you don’t want to have some wild animal in there and then you pick it up to go take it somewhere and the thing falls apart next thing you know Grandma sweating bullets while you’re trying to convince her in the car that her life is not in danger from the rabid animal with one goal in mind… Getting away from you. 🙃

  • WOOOOOW. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION. I have a few cages and one DP “handcuff”. Had to dispatch on sight with the handcuff, but now the 5g bucket threw me a “humane” way to transport them. I can cut a 6″ hole in the bucket and feed the cuff into it, catch slide and close the bucket so I can transport it somewhere else.
