Hey everyone… I was in New York city this weekend and I stopped in at ABC Carpet & Home, the most amazing interior design …
Why is linen considered luxury?
Linen is a popular choice due to its unique properties, such as extreme moisture absorbance in clothes, bed sheets, and towels. This makes linen comfortable to sleep in, breathable during summer, and practical for bathroom and kitchen use. Additionally, linen has natural resistance to bacteria, acarids, and insects, making it a cost-effective and practical choice for various applications. Overall, linen offers a unique and stylish solution for various home decor needs.
What makes linen so expensive?
Linen production is a laborious and time-consuming process, costing more than cotton due to the special care required during harvesting and the difficulty of weaving the flax plant. This results in lower spinning and weaving machines, resulting in less linen produced daily. Linen requires careful cultivation, harvesting, retting, drying, and further processing to create the final fabric. It takes around 90 days from sowing the flax seed to harvest alone.
Despite its high cost, linen is more durable and hardwearing than traditional manchester, with incredible tensile strength. It is one of the strongest natural fibers, approximately 30 thicker and stronger than cotton. Flax linen improves with age and offers a low-maintenance approach to care, eliminating the need for ironing or dry cleaning.
What are the 60 30 10 rules in interior design?
The 60-30-10 Rule is a classic decor rule that suggests that the 60th color should be the dominant color, the 30th color should be the secondary color or texture, and the last 10th color should be an accent. The 60th color represents the overall color of the room, while the 30th color serves as a secondary color that supports the main color while adding interest. By following this rule, you can create a visually appealing and visually appealing space.
What is the 60 40 rule in interior design?
The golden ratio is a design principle that helps achieve a balanced room layout by assessing the floor space covered by furniture. It suggests that nearly 60 percent of a room should have furniture, with 40 being clear. Geometric designs, such as circles and arcs, can add intrigue to interior spaces. Squares can be represented through key furniture pieces like dining tables, beds, or sideboards. Circles symbolize unity and infinity, while bold geometric shapes can add visual interest.
Curved dining chairs can complement hard angles, while linear chairs can add structure to round tables. The golden ratio also guides furniture selection by providing a proportional framework that aligns with balance and visual harmony principles. This allows designers and homeowners to make informed choices about the size, placement, and coordination of furniture within a space.
How do I choose luxury bedding?
Pure cotton is a popular choice for a luxuriously soft sleep experience, with the look and feel influenced by the weave of the threads. Common bedding weave types include percale and sateen, which create a luxury texture. Percale is a plan weave with a single horizontal thread passing over and under a vertical thread, giving the fabric a fresh, crisp feel. Sateen is a more intricate weave with a soft, flowing appearance, favored by 5-star hotels.
Where do interior designers get their materials?
Interior designers often obtain samples of products and materials from various sources, such as product showrooms and design centers. What are luxury linens?
Luxury linens are premium bedding made from high-quality materials like Egyptian cotton and silk, offering optimal softness, durability, and breathability. They are known for their expert craftsmanship, often featuring detailed designs and finishes like embroidery and appliques. What’s the golden rule most interior designers follow?
The Golden Ratio is a design principle that suggests that a room should have a balance between furniture and space. It suggests that 60% of the room should be filled with one color, 30% with a second color, and 10% with a third color. The design should also be proportionate, with large features like a feature wall or fireplace taking up about 40% of the room. The furniture should be proportionate to the room size, with less than 60% causing a sense of spacelessness, and more than 60% causing a crowded feel.
What linens do luxury hotels use?
Luxury hotels typically opt for natural fibers like cotton or a blend of cotton and polyester for their high-quality bedding. Cotton is hypoallergenic, making it safe for guests and producing a breathable fabric that is machine washable and allows airflow. A blend of high-quality cotton and polyester is also used, making it easier to iron. Our hotel quality sheets are made with 100% USA cotton, providing a smooth texture.
To create crisp, durable sheets, 5-star properties use two types of weaves: percale and sateen. Percale is a tighter weave, making it naturally soft, crisp, and resistant to tears, abrasions, and pilling. Its over-and-under basket weave creates a tighter fabric that gets softer with washing. Sateen, on the other hand, is a three-over-one weave, leaving less room for breath and creating a smooth surface for easy drape. It is known to pill and fray, making it more frequent to replace.
In conclusion, luxury hotels prefer natural fibers like cotton and sateen for their bedding, as they are durable, easy to care for, and comfortable. The choice of fibers and weaves is crucial for creating a luxurious and comfortable experience for guests.

CHEERS to the new year and new LUXURY BEDDING! If you’ve been settling for less when it comes to your sleep then this video …
The difference between how we make the bed in the UK and USA is so interesting. I honestly have no idea what the ‘flat sheet’ that you used over the fitted be sheet is for. I also didn’t know there was anything other than a duvet! I’d not heard about a ‘comforter’ until I met my Philadelphian husband 🤣 In the UK we typically have a matress protector, bed sheet (that you sleep on), a duvet with a duvet cover on, and pillows.
Beautiful!! I just recently discovered the Casaluna lune at Target and I’m absolutely obsessed..even tho I live the “Neutral” linen look, I also love their “CLAY” color so I got a sheet set, big throw blanket in the clay and come spring I plan on getting the linen duvet as well..love love this line!!🖤🖤
Great article! Good bedding needs to be paired with a premium latex pillow! I choose a latex pillow called LAYTEX. It is the largest latex pillow manufacturer in Thailand. The pillow has solid latex inside with a breathable case. The medium firmness improved my head and neck pain. I’m well comfortable and cool all night.🥰
I really like this! I actually just bought a new mattress and it’s coming with white bed sheets (I’ve never had white bed sheets before) so I was trying to find a article on how to style them as I didn’t want a stark white bed. I actually have a grey fabric headboard like yours too. I also already have a white duvet cover and 1 beige cushion.. so I’m thinking I just need to add a couple more things to it, and I’ll be good 👍🏻
I totally agree with the King comforter on a Queen bed. I just upgraded my down comforter and bought a King size! I live in Canada so no Target for me. I found a great comforter at Costco. (Royal Lux). I also have just discovered silk pillowcases….wow! They are so wonderful to sleep on and some have zipper closure so no pillow end sticks out. Thank you for all your suggestions in this article! God bless you!
What a relaxing yet informative article, a little late here, but I’m glad I clicked on your article! So glad they sell these @ Target, will try these bed sheets out, I have such a hard time now, finding sheets with deep pockets, I have some, that say deep, but yet still are not deep enough to cover my mattress, TY for sharing!
Great advice. I’m renovating a OLD home in a small, quaint village in Italy. It is a major project, but I’m most inspired by my bedroom. I have a bedroom with beautiful views of the mountains and sea. It inspires me to make the bedding very luxurious, but classic. My friends will need to walk through my bedroom to access the terrace. Hence the need to keep the bedroom always pulled together. I also like the hotel style of a capsule effect because it speaks volumes to cleanliness, tranquility, and understated luxury. I look forward to more of your posts and advice. Best wishes.
If you want a close to perfect mattress to sleep on and can afford it, invvest in a matress that is shipped in a box to your home. Take the box to your bedroom. As soon as its unpacted it will turn into a matress that is thick and comfortable. Pricy, but its the best mattress Ive ever slept on, and Im 64. I love it. Not to firm, not to soft, but perfect. The name brand is Casper.
Enjoyed your article. I’m finally purchasing a duvet. I’m sick of buying new comforter sets. I took my fav to the cleaners and washed in one of those industrial size washing machines. My comforter was ruined. With a duvet cover I can wash it at home. I’ll check out the Target line mentioned in the article.
Have you ever tried bamboo??? Oh I will never go back, also Cozy house have elastic sewn in the edges for a deep pocket fit, they are so comfortable, I have had some very nice Egyptian cotton and they do feel good, but the bamboo is temp regulating and also they have the BEST weighted blankets with bamboo duvet that comes with and they tie off around the comforter, it is so cathartic. Great article!
Your so right about clarity, took a while for me to find it at a local target, but it’s surely amazing I got the room spray linen spray and candle…I’m obsessed. I got the casaluna temperature sheets and linen heavyweight comforter in rose color. Also got a rose colored silk canaluna pillow case a rose casaluna linen pillow, I found 26″ down euro pillows at TJ Maxx, I got a lumbar pillow from Marshall’s! I am super happy with all the tips I got from you my bed is amazing!! bTW the casaluna lightweight down comforters are 70% off in clearance at Target it’s being discontinued.
The casaluna down looks extremely thin. I would recommend anyone who wants a high thread count and plumper fill to go to Bed Bath and BEYOND or even Costco . Costco has great sheets as well. Z gallery has fake silk sheets that are gorgeous and feel amazing. Pillow case is one place to spend money to protect hair and skin. The 5 dollar ones don’t wash well.
Just to note: when buying any type of bedding (sheets, pillowcases) you want to refer to the thread count. 400 thread is pretty much the basic cotton rough feel. The higher the thread count the more comfort you well feel within the fabric. However, the prices will different base on the count as well regardless of size.
Hello…. I just want to start off by saying how beautiful your bed is. I just have a quick question. I want to get a duvet and a quilt from the casaluna line and I was wondering was your duvet white or is it off white almost cream? When I go inside Target there white almost looks cream and I’m going for a white duvet. Can you please let me know your opinion on it?
Ah! You should also put your top sheet on with just the reverse of how you you did! In other words, you want the FINISHED EDGE of your sheet to show when you turn the top sheet down…not the unfinished side! Otherwise it’s like wearing a dress inside out!! Check out how BUNNY WILLIAMS makes a bed. She’s a top designer. Much simpler!
Can you talk about the quality of the engraved package? You have such a beautiful collection! ! Really admire your life. Your voice is soothing, I can listen to you all day long. Because my boyfriend surprised me with lv neo noe amzrepz.com So I want to know the quality of the engraved package. I think the quality of this place is really good. It always surprises me. I love so much.:yougotthis:
I love bedding as well. I had to invest in a good 800 fill power Goose Down comforter from Bloomingdales. On sale it was $400 but so worth the investment. You can tell the difference between a Duck down and Goose down fill for sure. I also have a featherbed on top of my mattress and its dreamy. It’s so light airy and fluffy. I also only use linen bedding and bamboo. Bamboo is so soft and cool, I love it! I normally go with Goose Down pillows as well but I recently added an amazingly soft pillow from COOP HOME GOODS called the Eden pillow. It’s incredible!
I’m looking for bedding for a 15″ mattress. The king size bedding I’m looking at is 3″ short, and will hang down 9″ past the mattress on either side. The full/queen is too short all around. Since you use king sized bedding on a queen mattress, do you have any suggestions? What’s your experience with sizing?
I originally saw a linen duvet on Parachute, the room and the bed looked so comfortable that I would never get up. I saw the linen set at Target I bought the natural color for a more earthy feel. After one night I went back and bought everything Casaluna to redo my whole bedroom. I wanted a natural earthy space with soft linens and cozy blankets. The linen duvet with the midweight comforter is just right. Love this line. Now I just want to stay in bed forever. Great article!
