When decorating a real Christmas tree, there are several steps you can take to keep it green and thriving until Christmas. To keep your live tree alive and thriving, consider keeping it outdoors and decorating it on a covered porch or in an outdoor space for weeks. Keep your live tree outdoors but protected for any length of time that suits your needs.
When choosing a living Christmas tree, consider the benefits and challenges of choosing one, where to find one, how to care for it, and what to do with it after the holiday. Wait a day or two before decorating to allow the branches to open up and fall into place, making decorating easier. Live trees only keep for around a week to 10 days once indoors, and after that, they will struggle to reacclimate to going back outdoors.
When decorating any Christmas tree, whether it be real or fake, choose a theme and let it sit overnight before decorating. This allows the branches to widen and relax, and by morning, fill out to its natural shape. On average, a well-planned and efficiently executed decoration process may take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.
Christmas trees need a little time to drop their branches after being tied up, and it usually takes about 24-48 hours to loosen up and get into the optimal position. Allow at least a couple of hours for the tree to “settle” into shape before decorating. Most real Christmas trees should last five weeks or more, so if you decorate for Christmas in late November, your tree should easily survive beyond the holiday season.
📹 How to Safely Put Up a Real, Live Christmas Tree
Make sure this year’s live holiday tree is not only pretty, but safe, too. Step 1: Choose a fresh tree Choose a tree with fresh, green …
How early is too early to decorate for Christmas?
A majority of 65 editor friends recommend decorating for Christmas after Thanksgiving or the first week of December, as this schedule allows for a clean transition into the yuletide season and aligns with the start of Advent. The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park decorates on Thanksgiving Day. However, 15% agree that decorating after Thanksgiving is the best, suggesting waiting longer into December.
The remaining 20% prefer to start their Christmas tree early, even as early as November 1, as they crave the magic and merry before the turkey dinner. The ideal time to put up the Christmas tree is sometime soon after Thanksgiving.
How to keep your Christmas tree alive longer?
To keep your Christmas tree fresh and fresh for longer, follow these simple steps:
Keep your tree in a shady, cool spot away from direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can wilt your tree, causing it to turn brown and brittle within days.
Avoid letting your tree’s water run dry. Christmas trees need a lot of water, especially in the first 48 hours after being cut. If your Christmas Tree stand is left dry, it can be fatal to the tree, even if you top it up again the next day. When a tree is out of water, sap leaks out and congeals, sealing the base, making it impossible to absorb water.
Keep the water topped up at all times, but be extra vigilant in the first 48 hours. Trim the bottom before putting your Christmas Tree in water to prevent damage to the tree’s needles.
By following these simple steps, you can ensure your tree stays fresh and fresh for the New Year.
Are you happier if you decorate for Christmas early?
It has been posited by experts in the field that the early installation of Christmas decorations can result in an increase in levels of happiness and friendliness amongst the general public. This is thought to be as a result of the stimulation of the feel-good hormone dopamine, which is triggered by the use of colours and lights.

Is it too soon for a real Christmas tree?
Displaying your tree from November 21st to January 1st is best if you choose a freshly harvested, long-lasting variety. Most evergreens should be put up in early December to keep them through the month. If you want to display your tannenbaum in the new year, push the timing forward. To increase the longevity of your Christmas tree, buy freshly-cut ones from Hart-T-Tree Farms. Carrie McClain, a grower at Hart-T-Tree Farms, suggests giving your pick a mini physical to check for freshness. If the needles fall off or the branch breaks, the tree is dry and not fresh. Buying from a local farm or a distributor can help determine the exact date of tree cutting.
How long will a real Christmas tree last?
Christmas trees, even fresh-cut ones, can last up to four to five weeks if properly cared for. However, the lifespan may vary depending on the tree species. Signs of a tree’s end include brittle needles falling off, drooping branches, and ornaments weighing them down. To extend the tree’s lifespan, start with non-living decorations and finish with fresh greenery and your tree around December 1st. It’s important to monitor fragile trees and avoid putting up decorations earlier than necessary.
How long do you need to keep a fake Christmas tree?
Artificial Christmas trees have a lower carbon impact than real trees, as they break down in landfills and have a lower likelihood of staying nice enough to keep for 10 years. Real Christmas trees are more eco-friendly and sustainable, as small-scale farms are inherently sustainable, leaving certain sections open for harvesting and keeping others roped off for younger trees to grow. Growing an average-sized tree takes around 7 years, and as trees grow, they absorb carbon and use 10x fewer resources than artificial tree factories. For every tree cut down each year, 1 to 3 new seedling trees are planted, making real trees a more eco-friendly choice for the environment.
How soon can you put up a live Christmas tree?
A freshly cut Christmas tree may be used for a period of approximately two months, from the Thanksgiving holiday to Christmas, if it is properly cared for and set up. In the event that the tree is to remain unused for a period of several days or longer, it is advisable to store it in a cool location in order to prevent damage from wind and sunlight.
When should I decorate my live Christmas tree?
The best time to decorate for Christmas is usually the weekend after Thanksgiving, but some choose to wait until mid-December. This is ideal for families who are still gathered in one home. When choosing when to start, consider factors such as the live or artificial tree, as a real tree can last around four weeks and take a couple of weeks for the natural fragrance to fully infuse your space. Artificial trees offer more flexibility as they look the same regardless of timing. Therefore, it’s essential to consider these factors when choosing the best time to decorate your Christmas tree.
How soon is too soon to put up a Christmas tree?
The significance of Advent should not be overlooked when putting up a Christmas tree. Most religious sources recommend waiting until the third Sunday of Advent, but any day until Christmas Eve is acceptable. Before decorating, ask yourself if your tree is live or artificial. Live trees last around four weeks, so it’s best not to put one up before December 1st. Artificial trees offer more flexibility as they will remain the same regardless of timing. Ultimately, the timing of your tree should align with your religious beliefs and cultural values.
How long should I let my Christmas tree sit before decorating?
Before decorating your Christmas tree, allow it to settle for a few hours to ensure it remains upright and straight. This allows the branches and needles to open into their natural shape. Avoid losing fragile ornaments by allowing the fresh-cut tree to relax before hanging lights and baubles. A beautifully decorated tree from a nursery is a stunning focal point for your decorations, whether you prefer an understated minimalist look or a bright, exuberant display. A live tree will show off the decorations perfectly, making your Christmas celebration unforgettable.

The Christmas tree is the STAPLE of Christmas decorating, and let me tell you–it seems like I’ve tried every theme you could …
Getting it in the house wasn’t as hard as standing it up. I got an industrial sized stand to stand it and then used 60lb fishing line and eye bolts in the walls to secure it from leaning. I went to a tree farm and just paid a flat $25 fee to cut it down myself. They were probably happy to see it go because the big ones are hard to sell. Its all trimmed up and looking good now but I haven’t tried to decordate it yet.
Hello my friends. ALERT!!! If you get a reply stating you have WON something from me… IT’S SPAM! Do NOT reply. It is not from me! Apparently, this is happening across the YouTube platfrom (especially to large accounts) We are reporting it but in the meantime… Do NOT respond… IGNORE. A reply might look something like this: TEXT ME ON TELEGRAM and the user name is @kinwoven_Robeson_Design ——– THIS IS A FAKE ACCOUNT “Thanks for the feedback, Expect more articles soon Send a direct message I have something for you….” These people are clever so expect the message to change… BOTTOM LINE, If the article is not a giveaway article… there is not a prize! Thanks for your understanding… now, lets get back to Christmas Decorating 🙂 RR
When I was a kiddo… We went over my cousins house. She had a live tree that looked very similar to your artificial tree’s. While we didn’t say anything… we were very good children, we laughed our head’s off after. Being used to a very full tree… we thought this one looked like a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Of course now that I’m older I can appreciate the look. My cousin was very talented as far as decorating goes. And way before her time actually. Love your color theme, Rebecca. Thank you for putting this together as a playlist. You’re the Best.
Stunning as usual. I am a bit ocd about Christmas but this year I have had to accept the creative talents of my 3 and 2 year old grandsons. They decorated their own tree with their bulldozers and grouped ornaments beside the lights to get the most sparkle. I think it will be the only tree in the house this year. They love to touch and rearrange everything 🥳
Love the form of these trees. We will have 8 trees this year. All different themes depending on room they are in. Favourites: white tree with cobalt blue, gold/amber, and white theme; livingroom tree with mainly rosegold ornaments and gold, silver and crystal accents; and a heavily flocked tree with only Santa themed ornaments, a touch of red plaid, and red berries. Our favourite of yours is the iced/crystal tree that you did in your old livingroom (in cobalt and when you had the nutcracker soldiers in the room). Love your website.
I found you a few years ago and when I saw your style I found you to be so inspiring! This year I wasn’t sure as to what my theme would be. It’s usually a mix of traditional and Adirondack. Last year I used the black buffalo print for the front porch with red trim and it came out better than I thought. However, this year I didn’t know. Your woodsy theme is simple yet elegant. I have a 5 foot faux tree and wanted to put it in front of the picture window in my second bedroom that I turned into a small den. I am going to use your idea plus I have some flocked picks to put in between the branches that I saw you demonstrate in another article. I would love to send a picture to you when it’s finished. Thank you so much!
What a simple yet elegant way to decorate your trees! This is my first time perusal and I wasn’t going to decorate this year has there has been so many tragic events happen in my family since 2020 up until recently. But you’re article is an inspiration encouragement, your talent truly a gift from above! And, you’re beautifully lovely.God Bless.
Beautiful as always, I love, love your Christmas articles. What is really funny for me that, this is the way we decorate our trees in Europe (Romania more exact) and is so funny that the people from US,do this, but people from Europe are trying to learn how to decorate the trees like people in US, it looks like we are swapping 🥰🥰🥰
You are amazing 🙌🏼 Truly appreciate your creativity, style, ingenuity! Thank you for that tip When I place ornament balls, I start with the big one to tuck any empty spaces I love decorating, too 😊 Can’t wait to see your home tour 😁😉 I’m ready to vacuum my Balsam Hill Christmas tree and start my garlands By the way, I have an archway and guess what? I’m going to place a garland and magically, elegantly decorate it with the theme of my column entryway ❤. You have NO IDEA HOW I HAVE EMULATED YOU ❤ Your one of my role models in decorating!!! For sure 😘🥰 Amazing woman who MUST continue to inspire us young women 😍
I have already done 5 trees and doing another on friday. None of those are in my home. Mine wont be up until day after thanksgiving. I have one tree that is flocked with a gold silver champagne rich browns sage green and touches of natural twigs and pinecones to juxtapose all the glitter and matallic. My favorite tree is also flocked with all the same colors as the last but with velvet ribbon and satin ornaments in a rich navy blue and lots of snowflakes. My wildcard tree is a irridesent tree ( think vintage aluminum tree only irridesent) with pale pink champagne rose gold copper and a pale mint green. Its a small but mighty tree that really turned out cute for an obgyn office.
Hi Rebecca, I’m hoping that I could get the same effect you got when you flocked tipped your tree. I can’t seem to find a frosted/flocked tipped tree that isn’t completely white so decided I may have to do it myself. The only thing is my tree will be fuller and 10 feet tall so I’m praying I can pull this off. My big question is packing the tree away a problem after the season is over? Will the flock stay nicely or will I have to redo it year after year? Also I live in Las Vegas and we store it in the garage so will it survive the heat? Thank you for your beautiful chanel.
I have my Christmas Tree Decorated Candyland . Color Scheme Red and White The tree very pretty 7 1/2 ft, The limbs are full . All I have to do is use the remote to turn it on. Two types of Ribbons, A lot of Picks, Ornaments, Large Candy canes run through the tree. Pinstripe candy cane skirt There’s over 1,200 lights ( white ) on the tree.
Hi Becky, I have a 9′ flocked tree and for the first time decided to go emerald green with ribbon and ornaments, not forest green or olive green but the bright Christmas emerald green. I’m just not sure what other colors to use with it, such as gold or silver. I’d like to keep it more simple and not overloaded this year. The last two years I’ve gone mostly red and it’s been gorgeous but the green is a little worrisome to me. I’ve already invested in the costly ribbon. Any suggestions on how to make it look elegant and not tacky?
Hello Becky! 🙂 I have been hoping for years, you would decorate a live tree. It has its specialties and it would be so interesting to see, how you tackle it. I know it is tricky because of how early you need to film these, but a girl can dream 😁 Our colors for the year are cream, clear, aged brass, dark green, sage green and natural dark wood tones. I do love your trees this year, because of how sparse they are, they do resemble live trees (well some varieties). A live tree is aways quite sparse at the top. And I love the tinsel idea! It seem to have a little comeback this year.
Such a beautiful tree! It seriously looks like some tall(12-14’) real trees I’ve done, but better lol. I love how you have more space to add ornaments with the dainty (yet grand) style tree . Flocking it was definitely the way to go for sure 😉 Christmas decorating is my job now, and I can’t say how much this gets me into the spirit. I set up my tree last week and I’ve been waiting for this article to get me started, and I just can’t wait now☺️ I can’t believe I’ve been waiting for these tree articles for over a decade now, but you are the one, Rebecca, who gets me in the spirit ❤️🎄
This year I want to do red and white. Should I add clear to the mix? I love ribbon so so I want red and white ribbon throughout. I am going to attempt making a bow for the top. Your trees are always gorgeous no matter what theme or color. I definitely need to add more bulbs and are greater range of sizes to add more interest. Enjoy the holidays.
I look forward to these articles every year. It’s how I first found you several years ago. You start the season for me. I love too many of my Christmas ornaments which I’ve collected over the last 30 years to actually stick to one colour scheme or theme. So every year my decor is traditional with red, green, gold and silver being the main colours. But I really love to see what beautiful magic you create when you decorate your home each year. This year is no exception and I can’t wait to see a full tour of your Christmas wonderland. Love from Ireland. X
I have trees in every room. Each has their own color scheme. You’ve inspired me so much and I’ve learned so much from Design sessions. Getting ready to start my bedroom tree today. All white with the cobalt blue you did one year. I’m adding small touches of red. My bedding is white and I add sheets and blankets to match. No idea colors in other rooms yet. Thank you Becky. I owe all my skills to you ❤️
Rebecca…the trees are beautiful! Have you tried the faux snow with Elmer’s glue, (whole medium sized bottle), cornstarch (1/4c.) and whole can of Barbasol(shaving cream)? Mix well and apply with plastic gloves…as much or as little as you want…then I sprinkle on iridescent glitter. It dries thoroughly in 24 hours. Mine has lasted going on 3 years and no discoloration and very little flaking.
So lovely!!! My husband has been a pastor and director of a residential alcohol and drug recovery center(Wings of Life, Mobile, AL) for 20+ years. We are in the process of moving from a downtown property which was originally a Catholic School that my 95 year old mother-in-law went to when she was a girl. We are moving to a heavily-wooded 40 acre property where we will add regenerative farming jobs for the residents to participate in and we are beginning to add the next phase of our plan for recovery. We will have families reunite on the property before leaving so that they re-establish their family relationships with support and community before they go back to “life”. This style of tree would be so very perfect for our dining room. I absolutely love your website, Rebecca!!! Please keep sharing!!! Merry Christmas!!!⛪️
Oh, my goodness, Rebecca! My dining room Christmas theme and colors are exactly the same as yours this year. My grapevine garland arrives in two days (no honeysuckle garland) and my spinners arrive TODAY! Will you be adding spinners to your trees even though they are “forest trees?” Thank you for all of your tips and instructions! Red before green…Got it! 🎄
And she’s back 💖🎄🙏😘🤩 merry Christmas ( buona natale to you and your family too) love that white shirt 🤩😍💖 too…..I wanted to watch you do more it is so beautiful & majestic …I know that will come. What a brilliant idea of putting 3 trees there …a winter wonderland frosty forest idea 💖💖💖 just need to add some snow on the floor in that room now 😉…loved the frosted tip idea.. looks beautiful and 3 trees to identically decorate wow what a big job it certainly looks beautiful and now I can’t wait to see the rest of the house..🎄🙌…I love that clear star drop ornament 🤩🤩🤩 would you know if they were still available..I tend to modify my Swarovski crystal star and extra length too…I buy them when they are on special too and yes correct basmahill trees do have warm white…can’t wait to see more…🎄🤩🙏😍😘🎄🎄
This year my Christmas/Winter decor will be “white, silver, blue and crystal” reminiscent of an icy New England (where I live). Last year it was the warmth of the New England home fires with “red and gold”, and next year it will be “brown, green and copper” for our New England woods. I have used this rotation for a number of years….and I love it!
Today should mark the day I get to let my Christmas love free, sadly, I don’t feel the holiday season spirit. 😔🥺 Between financial strains, eldest son a to university and not back till late. Youngest is 13 and is at the age of not believing 🥺 I just feel like this year is not the same. Like it’s loosing its Luster. Please Kinwoven family help me with how to manage when family dynamics change? 20 years with littles is a LONG time but now feels it was over far too quickly.
Festive greetings from the UK! Much thanks for making these great Christmas decorating articles. They very much put us in the holiday mood. We live in Bath in the UK, a city with many Georgian (I.e. circa 1800) homes that have very high ceilings, so we can easily have an 8ft tree. Myself and daughter decorate (trim) the tree, your articles really help with new ideas so that our tree is not the same each Christmas time. Here for people with artificial trees it’s become common to put up the tree and room decor out on the first weekend of December. It’s completely dark by 4pm so the extra lights are very welcome!
I watch these articles every year and pray you and you fabulous daughter would come to my home and help me decorate my tree. This year is going to be especially difficult because my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and there just so much going on, any how. This bring my family much joy perusal these Xmas articles and getting awsome ideas. Again Thanks for the beautiful wonderful warm ideas. Sending our love from the O’Brien Family in Falmouth MA
My tree is going up in the next week or two as I get ready to welcome my 1st grandchild on 23rd November. And because it’s a girl, I am going pink this year!! I will add some navy, silver as contrast colours and of course clear crystal for glam but everything must be done before my granddaughter’s arrival😄 I’ve waited long enough 😂
I love this style of tree.. I also ordered a tree very similar to this last year and I struggled hard to get this look..after years of heavily decorative and flocked trees this minimal look feels so right for the times.. it was also my first LED lite tree over 2700 lights.. I loved it so much I did not want to take it down after Christmas. Your article has given me better insight and the HONEYSUCKLE VINE will be the game changer for my aspen spruce tree this year.. thank you
My Christmas color scheme doesn’t really change I just add on more items and decor each year, it is a Forrest green, maroon red, and gold accents with some white. The tricky part is I have a 1 year old toddler who likes to grab EVERYTHING and need to figure out how to decorate Christmas toddler proof style without sacrificing the beauty of decorating!!
This year I will place clear Christmas lights on My tall ornate black wrought iron candle lamp post that has greenery and 2 large red bows. I will enjoy the Christmas season on this level. A Christmas wreath will be placed on the front door on the outside as well as the inside. The battery operated lights will lend Christmas cheer. (Due to an upcoming move, I am having a minimalistic Christmas decorating experience.) I love your Christmas Tree decorations. Have a very happy Christmas. Thank you for sharing.
I bought 2 Balsam Hill trees last year. I now have 6 trees around the house for Christmas. Balsam Hill is the only good place to buy trees from. My word, they look real and I just love the quality too. Mine are not pre-lit as I want to have control over changing the lights and don’t want to deal with outages in branches. I find it easier to fluff out the branches at each level as you put them on. So fluff and add the branches as you go. My trees are a fuller style and it takes me about 2 hours per tree to fluff. Labour of love and once done, it makes a huge difference. Fluffing is soooo important. PS. Your Christmas series are everything!!! I love all your design articles. But to get in the mood for Christmas and all the work ahead, I watch your articles to get me into gear. LOL
My husband has never watched any of your articles till this one. LOVE how you added the different “steps”. All I had to say to him was watch and complete steps 1 to 3 except adding the moss which I would do. All done while I was at work. My colours this year are the same as yours except for the red. I added a dark burgundy instead. Great article so easy to follow and quick. Love that.
Looking great so far! Don’t know if it’s just the angle but the red drop looks like it’s on top of the star drop icicle one you got from Damon. It’s lovely to see you still using the ornament she sent you over the years….. looking forward to seeing the end result and the rest of your articles, look forward every year to see how you can put do each years trees! …. Thanks again for all your hard work and sharing everything with us. 🤗😘….ps. It’s spelt tinsel not tensel…pps I clean my clear ornaments and icicles every year! They need to have the maximum sparkle!
I didn’t think I was going to love that tree, but of course, you have proven me wrong Rebecca. I have 3 trees throughout my home, but my “main” tree is always the traditional colors, red, green, gold, silver, and white. This year I am bringing in a bit more burgundy and evergreen ribbon along with some new ornaments. Some new cedar garlands for over my windows and always, lots and lots of lights. I love your holiday articles so very much!! Thank you for inspiring us all!
You’re just the best for Christmas! I love it! But no ribbon in your trees this year????? My colour palette this year is white, red, woody element and a touch of brass and my ribbons are white velvet with wire and red silk ribbon without wire…. I love a traditional Christmas colour scheme and this year I am trying to go a little victorian vibe (with antique brass bells)
Me again James from Dallas you know looking at those trees I would probably use c7’s or c9s maybe possibly c7’s they’re a little bit smaller I think in multicolor I don’t know why they just remind me of a nostalgic old-fashioned tree and they’re those trees are fabulous of course one more step up being frosted would be even beautiful more beautiful as far as flocked but they’re stunning as they are
Good morning Rebecca I have learned so much from you thank you so much with your busy busy schedule. You always show us how to decorate. And make our house not just Christmas in your face but a elegant, sophisticated, Christmas decoration. God bless you and your beautiful family cannot wait to see all of your articles specially your Christmas home tour.
Those trees look stunning. You are so good at decorating for Christmas. I love perusal your articles. I won’t be decorating this year because I wil just be moving into my new home in another state. I’m looking forward to decorating next year. I have a lot more to decorate so I’ll have to buy a ton of garland for my staircase. Thank you for sharing your talent. You give excellent advice.
I am also doing a Queen tree but it will be without a bodice, and it will have a silver lighted crystal crown as the topper. The actual tree is 6 feet sprayed light aqua and the Orns are pink bottom white middle and teal top with a necklace made of pink crystals. I am not sure what to do about a skirt for the floor. I thought of just adding some fancy shoes but it might look creepy. Any suggestions?
Hello Rebecca James from Dallas yes I’m going to watch this I am very bored with Television right now but I just from my little phone to the TV and you’re as big as life and those trees I’m trying to find a four and a half I think I have but they’re still out of my price range so I’ll wait and see anyway can’t wait to watch and see what happens
We moved to the country last year with a lot of maple pecan colors in my home. Think orange wood tones, which I am trying to embrace. I am doing away with the reds and instead opting for a more Whimsical Woodsman look. Greens, ambers, dark burgundies, browns. I am gathering tiny creatures as we have lots of deer, raccoons, squirrels outside that I want to incorporate into the tree. Can’t wait to see what it looks like in about a week when I put it up.
i never heard of tensil but i’ve heard of tinsel becky! my theme this year is gonna be purple/mauve, silver and white with a few sparks of colors of the rainbow thrown in. i got some cute penguins that sport green, red, blue etc and some silver baubles with ornaments that contain tiny speckles of light pink. and over the last few years my advent decoration was square, this time it’s gonna be traditionally round, also in the color-scheme stated above.
5:19 – 6:11 You could probably strip some bark off a real tree or firewood logs, and affix it to the center pole, to camouflage the plastic and wires too. 😊 It would .probably look better than moss. Or, depending on the theme of the tree, you could add more moss, and a little red cardinal bird, to make it appear like a real birds nest. Perhaps a more rustic-look tree. 😊
This is a beautiful Christmas tree, I am from europe and for us we go to forest and collect things and also buy things to put on the tree, we love to see the tree, usually American have a lot of stuff on so you don’t see the tree, and that is fine, but for me this is good memories, and made me emotional. THANK YOU for showing us, you bring happiness to our lives, beautiful lady.
Ooooh I bought this tree a few weeks ago! It looks so pretty. I’m going for small glass droplets and wooden acorns so far. I want it really simple. My other tree is a one of a kind driftwood. Its not the easiest to decorate, I have some really fancy beaded baubles, cotton snowflakes and ceramic stars. All very simple with balsam hill garlands and tiny star lights everywhere.
Love the trees and colors. I always love the long dangle ornaments, especially the glass ones that reflect the lights. As for the “you are a winner “spam message, I have to laugh. These scammers are so stupid they send it on every blogger you follow. Some days I have won 5 times on 5 different sites. .., haha . Seriously !
Hi my beautiful and glamorous lady my color on my christmas 🎄 tree this year and for the fist time will be pink blush pink with white bowls ornaments clears as well, some white and pink flowers too and probably some silver sparkling ✨ ornaments leaf will see what do you think any advice I will appreciate it love you 😘
I like the open limb trees so there are great spaces to hang the ornaments. This year I put up a 9 ft one in the family room where we live and used red finial ornaments, heavily flocked pinecones, red balls, red berries and white porcelain birds. At the top I placed 2 red satin bows and 8 branches of draping white berries. Next year I plan to add the clear!
I love it, so beautiful. I’m not necessarily a fan of the really “bare” look on the inside, but I love the vine twined around and the gorgeous clear and frosted glass ornaments that really sparkle and glow in the light. I personally like the really warm lights but maybe you could twine around some “whiter” fairy twinkle lights. P.S. At the end of last season I decided that for this year I wanted to do a nature/woodland tree. It’s going to have all different kinds of ornaments – birds, squirrels, bunnies, polar bears, brown and black bears, raccoons, owls, some rustic florals, in different materials and colors, all bought on clearance sales post-2021 Christmas and many bird ornaments I’ve purchased over the years. A very different kind of nature/natural tree than yours, but then, I like to load my trees with everything including the kitchen sink.
Beautiful!, as always. I have wanted to do a “paired back” “open” tree for a couple years now, but I think that investment(in the full size “open” style of tree) will have to wait till next year. I LOVED your “ice flocking” article. My problem with flocked trees has always been that they are just a bit MUCH, but I am definitely going to have to use your flocking method this year. I live in Texas, so a lightly snowy tree really works here……especially since like you, my MAIN theme is a woodsy forest feel, but in a peacock color scheme that somehow is going to incorporate a blue/green/black tartan, lol. The bathroom is red and black Victorian goth decor(with bone replicas as towel bars),with an underlying “love beyond death” narrative, so it’s getting decked in a red, black, and gold Victorian vampire theme.
Love your articles. I have been perusal you since your first tree decorating YouTube article. I learned a lot about decorating my house for Christmas. This year I’m not doing as much and I shave a small 3ft tree, with a small amount of snow. Thank you for showing me the right way to decorate. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Your articles Rebecca are so amazing! You are great at showing us how you make the ordinary look extraordinary!! I’m doing my tree this year also in a Woodland theme. I have many crystal ornaments and some beautiful red ones along with small woodland creatures (furry owls, straw -made squirrels, wooden reindeer, and bright feathery red cardinals). Should look amazing don’t you think? Looking forward to your home tour article to see it all decorated for a special Christmas!!
I’ve always been inspired by you and your daughters Christmas decor especially yours. I probably won’t change my style this year. I can love something for a very long time although I do add on and move around. One tree is traditional farmhouse with buffalo check and snowmen, another is a 6 or 7.5 foot flocked pencil tree in white and gold. One is a slim tree with leopard suede ornaments and a musical theme and gold musical note bells and cork deer. I have a bunch of trees all over and a deer theme. I FINALLY got some pigtails to make my ornaments rotate! One of my favorite things about your trees! I love the trees you did today so simplistic but elegant. I love the clean wispiness of them and the colors! Can’t wait to see everything!
Color scheme this year is Silver, white and clear with a few colorful nutcracker characters ornaments. Last year I did not have ANY metal/shine (natural woodland theme), so this year I’m craving some sparkles! But still true to our minimalist/simple style. Great tips as usual, but as we always decorate live trees, and I was wondering when you may take the challenge and share some tips!!!
I have been rotating my theme and/or color scheme each year for nearly 20 years. Last year my theme and color scheme were a snowy/icy Christmas, utilizing white, silver and clear items. As part of thinning my stash, this year I’m adding blue for the last time (before donating the last of my blue decor) for an icy blue Christmas.
I bought a Balsam Hill tree last year and hated the lights. Honestly the convenience of a pre-lit tree wasn’t worth it. They looked like they’d been put on by someone wearing oven gloves and the colour was totally wrong. I ended up throwing the lights out and adding my own. Having said that I do like the tree and can’t wait to put it up again this year. I’ve always had a real tree and it took me a while. I had to figure out how to style it but once I’d cracked it I was so pleased. I tried a tree skirt initially but in the end I settled on a basket with deeps sides and handles which totally hides the base and stem and it looks stunning
Hi Rebecca – First, I want to say love perusal your articles. They are so inspiring. Our Christmas tree is always decorated with ornaments that we have collected over the years. Some have been handmade, some are remembrances, and some stand for memories throughout our and our children’s lives. I love using all these decorations but would love to add a little something special to make it look fresh and different from years past. Any ideas?
Hi Rebecca, Donna here! What a gorgeous tree! I was just telling my husband this morning that I like trees that are not so full that you can really see the gorgeous ornaments! But I also like to really see the beauty and elegance of the tree itself! My favorite tree that you have is the tree that you decorated with cobalt blue! It was a Sanibel Spruce tree. I have hunted high and low for one of those trees! Ill never give up until I find that same tree for my home! That’s how much your Christmas decorating influences me! This tree is sublime! Thank you for sharing!
Rebecca I was so excited to see THE TREE today! I love all of your content, learn so much every time I watch, and laugh because you are so fun. I am doing a purple, champagne and copper color scheme this year in my family room, with variations of that color scheme in different rooms. My bedroom tree is more lavender and silver, but it flows. Thank you for your wonderful articles.
Beautiful and can’t wait for the tinsel and boom the big christmas home tour 2022. Seeing you using the vines again brought me memories about the first time I saw a article of you is the Christmas tree where you were using those vines. Like 10 9 years a go. The clips of this article while you were hanging the ornaments are so magical clips.
You know I always love your articles… Christmas and otherwise! Hearing your philosophy on how and why you do what you do and seeing things come together from start to finish is the absolute best! I think you must be planning a huge (and incredibly long) reveal because I’m really missing the end results in this article, as well as in the pinecone swag article. I know I’m not very patient, and that’s certainly my issue, but I really want to see the entire finished look of what you’re working on at the end of the article… including all fabulous details with the slow zooms, CUs, ECUs, pans and tilts, as well as a WS of all three trees together in all their glory! (Insert stomping foot, mini temper tantrum here. 😩😕😉 Waaaaa) I want my tada moments and the beautiful ending to all of your efforts and the glorious results of your design principles in play! (Super brat is pouting now. 😢😒) 😉😂🤷🏻♀️😂😉 You’re really killing me here with only letting us see the top of the tree as the conclusion. 🤦🏻♀️🥴🤪🙃
I have a very similar tree to those 3, had it around 6 yrs, we’ve probably used it 2-3 times. Much as we love it, we spend soo long getting annoyed at the gaps, that we always go back to our traditional tree the next year. Yours turned out great, Red, Green, White and Clear really work together, can’t wait to see all 3 trees fully finished.
These trees bring you into an enchanted forest! They are other-worldly! And they seem to bring the trees you have outside, into your home! This is a tree I could stare at and dream! The way the lights play on all the ornaments is so mesmerizing and tranquil and it is an amazing setting. I feel like something wonderful is about to happen! You are going to miss these trees when you take them down!! This year I really wanted to use all my glass ornaments some of which are the shiny brite type and some are figurines. But I need help with how to create an old fashioned tree without adding too much to it to confuse the clean sparkly look I want. It’s kind of like the tree I had as a child some 60 years ago with tinsel and bubble lights. Any ideas to do a tree like that??
Love your articles! I always learn so much. Love your Christmas decorating concept this year. It’s simple and celebrates the natural beauty of winter outdoors. I tend towards more vibrant color combos in my Florida home, but this year I am going with rustic mixed evergreen arrangements with red berries and miniature cream roses, an aqua colored coastal Santa and a few coastal ornaments scattered about.
Really love the direction the trees are going in this year! I much prefer a tree where the ornaments dangle and can be actually seen rather than resting on the branch below. My only hesitation is the honeysuckle vine going through it. Reminds me of bind weed and the gardener in me want to pull it out !
