The Toyota Prius’s smart key entry system automatically illuminates the car’s interior lights when the key fob is nearby, making it easy to see what is within the car. However, the Prius does have a light that comes on when about 1 meter from the car, but only when it is dark. To activate cruise control in the 2019 Toyota Prius, press the “ON/OFF” button located on P. 345. The headlights are switched off or set to AUTO, and lights such as emergency flashers and interior lights are switched off.
The car will only sense the keyfob when it’s about 3 feet away from one of the antennas. Toyota SmartKey cars detect the keyfob in proximity of the doors and turn on the dome lights and automatically unlocks the doors when you touch them.
There are two switches that control the interior lights coming on when the door is open: the obvious one in the complete center of the car, and the easy-to-remove offending light bulbs and disable the courtesy lights. This shows how easy it is, even for those not very mechanically inclined.
