Mold growth on porch ceilings can leave unsightly stains, fill the air with a musty odor, and spread to other areas of your home. To remove mold from ceilings, several cleaning solutions can be used, such as mixing water and using a specialist mould spray like HG mould spray.
To clean a porch ceiling, start by removing dust and debris with a soft-bristle brush or vacuum cleaner. Mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent, and gently scrub the ceiling using a sponge or mop. If mold is coming from humidity in the air, kill the mold with a 1:10 chlorine bleach solution and water, undiluted white vinegar, or use a commercial product made for killing black mold. Rinse, let it dry, and don’t worry about stains. Use Kilz paint primer to paint over the stains.
Clinse is effective in killing mildew spores, but it can also regrow if the conditions are right. Wash first with an Environmental Protection Agency-registered mildewcide, which includes chlorine bleach. White vinegar can be used instead of bleach to remove mildew inside. Spray it on, wipe it off, and let the smell dissipate in about an hour. Spray it down with a 1:10 bleach:water mix, use a pressure bottle sprayer, or use a pressure washer or stiff brush like a stiff brush.
