The freight base is not the easiest to transfer due to its unique layout, but it can be transferred when buying a new capital ship. However, this does not include the freighter inventory content or upgrade. The interiors of freighters are supposed to transfer, and you will only lose cargo items in general storage and tech slots when swapping out your freighter.
The Prisms update allows you to completely transfer your old freighter base to any new freighter. After obtaining a new freighter, the pre-generated base within is automatically inherited, and you will lose any previous freighter base. This is a known issue, as leaving something behind in your old freighter inventory or cargo will prompt you with the question about leaving stuff behind.
Exchanging your current freighter for a new one will automatically transfer your current freighter base layout into the new freighter. Fleet moves with you, and so does the squadron. Exchanging your current freighter for a new freighter will automatically transfer your current freighter base layout into the new freighter.
If you want to recoup on the silver to rebuild in your new freighter, you can even remove all of the interior space except the hallway that…

📹 EVERYTHING You Need To Know About FREIGHTERS In No Mans Sky 2023!!
Freighters are a major part of No Mans Sky and since the release of the latest ECHOES UPDATE we’ve had a great enhancement …
Worth mentioning, wandering around a freighter can be extremely glitchy. I’ve become stuck in between walls and on the deck outside the ship entrance multiple times. If this happens to you there is a menu item under options specifically for unsticking yourself in a freighter. I believe it teleports you back to the bridge, but I may be wrong.
For “capital freighters” there are 5 different ship sprites (vinator, imperial, resurgent, sentinel, battleship and dreadnought) and each one of them have a “fixed” spawn to whatever system you visit after the pirate encounter. Each of the 5 ships also have a chance to spawn with 3 different “extensions” for example; the battleship might look like the dreadnought but the battleship comes with 5 guns and 5 storage containers, while the dreadnought can spawn with 7 guns and 7 storages with an EXTRA 2 storages making the battleship look tiny in comparison. Same goes with the other ships, vinator can spawn with 4 guns, but it can also spawn with 12 guns, making it look huge. So overall from the 5 capital ships they can ALL look different with their extensions. I looked over 120+ systems for the “dreadnought tier 3” then tried over 60+ times to get an S class of for that same ship. It was super tedious, but hella worth it in the end. For anyone interested, after 5 warps I did a random pirate encounter, seen that it wasn’t the ship I wanted and reloaded then checked a different system and so on and so on. Once you find the ship you like, just redo the process with the reload but finish the pirate encounter and check for the class of the ship. If you are looking for S class youll be redoing this for a while since S has a 1-5% to spawn depending on the system (pirate system being the highest at 5%). If it didnt spawn S then reload. Rinse and repeat until you get your shiny S. Good luck!
3 weeks ago I just got back into NMS after being hugely disappointed at launch back in 2016. I thought the fights to protect the freighter from pirate fighters were completely random so I took the first one I found. It was a C class but at least it had an economy scanner already. 5 warps later I came across another but with an S class star destroyer style in the color I liked only to find out it would cost me 135 million units I didn’t have yet to switch. I’ve yet to find another of the same class and style but I’m having a blast trying. I just need to improve my starship so I can destroy enemy freighters faster.
For anyone who usually plays in 3rd person.. If you find a crashed freighter, switch to 1st person highlight a cargo pod and stand above it.. You will be able to access the cargo without using your terrain manipulator… No digging required.. And for the cargo pods that are still on the freighter just jump on the roof, look down and you will be able to open cargo that way… So much quicker 😃👍
I feel so ridiculously lucky right now. I’ve been playing NMS for several years, several hundred hours, and I never once saw an S Class freighter. I just started a new save for the new update and I’m only about 20 hours in, declined the first free freighter encounter so I could try to re-roll better ones way down the line. Cut to my second encounter, it’s an outlaw system, and it’s a Venator, so I figured I’d save the system for later. I re-rolled it expecting nothing, and got the S Class Venator on my second try
for anyone looking into this article in 2024, the space battle event happens multiple times and even after taking your first free freighter, you can still get another free one, even after getting a free one the first time. also, everything in terms of “base building” in your freighter (and the frigates around you your freighter) stay with you after purchasing/redeeming a new freighter. the only things you need to watch out for is your storage as everything in your storage before changing freighters will be lost (this counts for the legit freighter storage, no the additional storage boxes that shares your inventory amongst multiple bases)
i’ve been tryna find a solid answer/tutorial about what happens when you trade your freighter for a new one and literally everyone says something different 💀 some ppl have convinced me that everything just gets completely deleted. others say you only get your stuff back if you build the storage containers. and others are saying there’s just a transfer base prompt WTF pls why doesn’t anyone know for sure fire article though
I’ve just picked up some frigates and sent them out on several expeditions for the first time. Being new to NMS I’m wondering about the frigate consumables. When should you use them, which ones you should use, how many to use, should you use 3 of the same type, are they only important early game until you max out your frigates classes and so on…..
Want to learn anything important about the subject at hand? Be sure to stay turned while I go over stuff you dont care about. Ready to hear about that thing you wanna know? Not yet! Be sure to keep perusal to see about that subject anyone wanted to actually watch this article for. But dont worry, we’ll go over that subject you care about, but first, let me go over this other thing thats blindingly obvious and doesn’t require several minutes to go over while I pad out this article length. OK! We’re ready to learn about that subject you care about but first…
First one for free is not true at least anymore, I got a regular freighter for free then two warps later encountered the pirates and decided to swap my old freighter for the new one and didnt pay a single unit. Everything transferred over and so by doing this its possible to get an S class eventually without save scumming to death at least all at once.
About 20 hours into my current save, just got the free freighter but it’s C class because I didn’t know I could get a higher rank. I’ve made a ton of progress, both personal and narrative wise. I guess I’m just wondering if it’s worth it to start all over or if i should just stick it out with my current save and just do unit farming for when I find an S rank.
We can easily calculate the average number of attempts you’ll have to make to find an S-class freighter in each system economy: ★ economy | 0% chance | impossible ★★ economy | 1% chance | 100 attempts on average ★★★ economy | 2% chance | 50 attempts on average outlaw | 5% chance | 20 attempts on average
Personally I still can’t stand that I can’t put regular refiners, planters and trade terminals in my frigate. The new rooms they make you use take up space and mess up the simple layout I had for my ship. Not to mention they aren’t as efficient. Wish it was an option rather than a requirement. It’s the primary reason my ship went from being home to a workspace I only occasionally visit
13:39 The scanner shows “Captial Ship” despite the article saying its a regular freighter but an actual “Captial Freighter” is huge compared to this. Why are all the freighters showing up as “Capital Freighter” despite being a regular freighter? On another note, I have been warping into outlaw systems as they have the highest chance of a S class capital freighter after 3 hours of gameplay and 5 warps but I did not get the pirate battle. Is there anything I am doing wrong?
I realised it’s been 4 yrs since I played properly, these article are so useful thank you, No idea if the stuff I have is any good but I have an A class space ship so that I guess is ok, I may try find a returning to game guide to follow, Again thank you I’m Binge perusal your articles, like doing. No man sky on line course lol
Also a massive tip for quickly defeating a pirate dreadnaught: first travel to its 4 warp engines and take them out. Then head up topside and take out all 5-6 FREIGHTER CANNONS. Once these two steps are done, you are victorious. If you’re quick enough, the civilian freighter shield will still be intact.
Subscribed. Please help me. I loaded up NMS for the first time in over a year last night (motivated by the new upgrades). I’d forgotten I even had a freighter but I do. I’m being prompted to build a fleet command center. I have the blueprint and the materials, I just don’t remember how to actually build! 🙈
🎯 Key points for quick navigation: 00:34 🚀 Freighters in No Man’s Sky are massive starships that can be customized and used to store multiple ships and resources. 02:57 ⚔️ You can obtain your first freighter for free by participating in space battles and aiding the freighter under attack. 04:21 💰 Capital freighters, which are larger, can be acquired for free after a specific number of warps and game hours. 05:18 📦 Freighters can hold a large amount of inventory which can be expanded with cargo bulkheads and other upgrades. 06:01 🛠️ Upgrades for freighters include hyperdrive enhancements, technology components like the Matter Beam, and fleet management improvements. 08:38 🚢 Frigates in No Man’s Sky can be owned in a fleet of up to 30, sent on expeditions for rewards, and commanded from your freighter’s fleet control room. 09:33 🔧 Freighters support extensive base building with unique rooms like fleet command and stellar extraction, offering unlimited energy for operations. 11:13 🌌 Exploring derelict freighters yields valuable rewards like salvage and upgrade modules, though the experience must be completed in one go due to no saving during exploration. 13:21 🌟 To find an S-Class freighter, engage in space battles in wealthy systems and reload saves until you encounter the desired class. Getting the FREE one can take a very long time, but it’s definitely worth it if done right. The reloading until you come across a rare superior awesome looking S Class. It’s all part of the game really. Loads of effort to get what you want by manipulating the way the game works. Or you could go the financial system crashing route and make yourself a tonne easily with a refiner chain and a small series of unimportant system Space Stations.
Hey man, great article I just wanted to know about freighter hunting, does landing and getting out of your starship at an in galaxy space station still work to reset the class? I have seen conflicting reports on this and I really don’t want to lose this one, thanks if you answer this (I’m on switch if it matters)
Anybody know why on the Nintendo switch while trying to buy a new freighter I get a “Transfer Item” warning even when I don’t have items or tech left to transfer over during the trade? And when I attempted to buy the different freighter without items to begin with or says “fleet warning” buy I only have one ship and shouldn’t it just follow my new freighter?
I guess you don’t know that you can turn off and on the purchases in the game so everything cost nothing it’s in options you can also turn off and on crafting materials meaning you don’t need anything to craft or build anything you can also upgrade all ships for free and buy everything inside the anomaly everything that cost nanites and salvaged data all free muti tools upgrade for free everything but the stuff you buy with quicksilver is free in the game if you turn off purchases in options
4:30 its not once per save you can get a free freighter, now i may only have 200hrs on nms but any time you save the civilian freighter or defeat the pirate freighter you get the chance to claim them, defeat the pirates if you want the pirate one, defend the civilian fleet till the pirates jump away if you want the civilian one… the truth here is you can only own 1 freighter at a time so 1 active freighter per save
I declined the offer to take the free freighter twice. But I can’t seem to reproduce the battle after 5 jumps. Nothing happens, even though I was in game for 3 hours. I try to end up in a power generation system every time so the chance of an s class is bigger. I also did not have that epic freighter battle in your footage, it just looked like it did before. Was I too far away from the freighter? I don’t understand.
Ive gotten 2 free freighters in the same save first one was a c class in the very beginning when i was messing around instead of playing the story and just replaced it with another free B class freighter and i havent even got to the point in the story where this is “supposed”to happen for the first time. It might take a while but this is definitely not a one and done scenario it will happen again. Dont make a new save if you have a C class freighter just keep having fun and u will eventually get a better free freighter.
Playing just recently (about 90 hours), so forgive me if i miss something. I just got my freighter and i was totally bummed when i found out that you can’t actually fly a freighter/frigate nor command it in battle. I was so hoping for a Star trek like Bridge and Starship command style gameplay added to NMS. As far as i can see, a freighter just stands there and does nothing, you have to (again) rely on your tiny fighter to actually do things (land on planets, fight or dock on Stations. Since it is super easy to get back to a planetary base (via stargate), there is almost nothing gained (depending on playstyle of course) imo, you just have ANOTHER thing (Aside from your settlement) that consumes ressources with no real benefit or play value imho.
