  • Finally, someone in that seat who understands the laws, needs, and land that is America…with knowledge of reservations and their sovereignty and their pride for their roots AS WELL AS their pride in serving THIS country. By population, Native Americans are MORE likely to serve in our military than any other cultural group.

  • The governor of one of the pueblos in New Mexico was my dad’s coworker. He related this anecdote to my father: A representative of the Army Corps of Engineers was evaluating the need for flood control projects on the pueblo lands. When the governor challenged the need for the corps’ project the engineer asked what they had done about flood control in the past, the governor replied, “Unlike the white man we don’t build in the arroyos or the flood plains. We build on the high ground.” Excellent choice for Secretary of the Interior. She will bring truly time tested wisdom to the office.

  • At Last! This is the first time we have heard any support for the original natives of America who were treated so badly by being excluded and locked into small areas. This involved the isolation of an ecologically sustainable group of people in their own land that was stolen from them. America has been divided, subdivided and fractionated by Trump. The diversity of Biden’s team is a fine start to unification.

  • Im from the Caribs (Kalina) of South America, Indigenous peoples of the Caribbean. I want to congratulate Deb Haaland for achieving her goals and want to thank Biden for giving her the opportunity to work for his cabinet. We wish you all the strength and luck and may you be an inspiration to our community!

  • Please stop using the very offensive term “Native American” when referring to the American Indian people These people are not native to this continent, large groups migrated here from Asia over the land bridge. A smaller band of Europeans sailed in boats along the glacier, hunting and fishing as they went. They all then took over the land, many as nomads. The American Indian migrated to this land and held no title to it. Some very uninformed people like to refer to American Indians as ‘Native Americans’ however, before 1776 this was just a land mass. The United States of America did not officially exist. Columbus referred to the land mass as ‘the new world’ or America after the name of his chart maker but the United States of America did not yet exist. All our ancestors who were living here after 1776 are true Native Americans and not just the Indians. We do need to recall the historic legacy of the American Indian which is contributing to human death, suffering and sickness as early as today. The American Indians planted, cultivated, grew and refined a plant which they then traded between themselves and other tribes. When the European explorers arrived in what they called ‘the new world’, the American Indians introduced this plant product to the Europeans who returned it to Europe. The product gained acceptance and people found it enjoyable to use. We know this plant product as tobacco. The tobacco plant is a carrier of very addictive nicotine and produces Tar in the lungs of smokers.

  • Oh, my goodness. I cried when I learned about the nomination, it was as if a tremendous amount weight was being removed from my chest, and at the same time, I had a feeling of great joy, and I’m not even Native American. I got emotional because I know that the Native Americans have gone through a tremendous amount of inequities and were victims of so many abuses over generations. I feel for you and I’m so overjoyed about this nomination. It’s about time. Thank you Presiden Elect Joe Biden. God bless America. Tis the season, peace on earth, good with toward men.

  • I’m so proud of Representative Haaland! As a New Mexican I feel especially proud and honored to have been a part of electing such a dedicated and grounded person to serve our state, and now I feel immense pride to see Haaland selected as the first Native American to serve in the presidential cabinet. This is a joyful occasion. ❤✌😄

  • Wow. The Department of Interior is the Indian’s God, with absolute power over them. Nominating one of their own may help free them from poverty and abuse. Does she assimilate them into society with all it’s rights and responsibilities, or keep them isolated? Since the Democrats talk big on climate change, they should seed money for wind & solar farms on reservations, train them to install & maintain systems, and sell electricity to the grid. Make Indians part of the future.

  • Here goes the stupid blood-and-soil mindset in the modern time. Her race has nothing to do with his opinions or policies versus yours. If someone makes your life better does it matter about her race? If someone rips you off does it matter about her race? Maybe she’s very good, maybe not. There can be many factors, but race is definitely not one of the reasons. With the same logic native Americans also came from Asia…. perhaps they wiped out or assimilated the native native ones also…. or perhaps native americans should claim ownership for siberia? Or perhaps we all should give the lands back to the animals before human beings existed and then move back to Africa?

  • Jesus Christ saves from sin. Romans 3: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Hebrews 9: 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: Isaiah 64: 6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Revelation 21: 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Romans 5: 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. John 3: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 14: 6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Romans 10: 9-10. That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Jesus said John 5: 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. 1John 5: 10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

  • The Constitution was made to ensure that the will of the people will be reflected at the Elections. The founders knew that if authorities like a Governor or Judges etc were allowed to change the Election process (as it happened in Venezuela, Cuba, China, Russia, etc, and now in the US) then the will of the people will be somehow in extremely high risk to be lost. All authorities in the US swore to strictly defend and follow the US Constitution. No exceptions. Therefore, how can be justified the violation of the Law of the Land by those Governors/Authorities at the swing states? This allowed the “obscure” manipulation of the Election by the Democrats who somehow got ballots that were just for Biden to be accepted in the middle of the night (did they pay for those ballots? Hunter got a lot of money from China). This is what the Law of the Land tried to avoid all the time. Biden/Harris, who also swore allegiance to the US Constitution, is also favouring/ignoring those crimes committed against the Constitution and therefore should not be swore into office. This will be another violation of the US Constitution.

  • Good for American Indian this is their country and they all deserve a thank from all Americans that are immigrated in America. they have the right to discriminate if needed in this country and we as an immigrant has to honor that and respect American Indian. Not trump or other raises in this country. Unfortunate that we take this land of America and hold it like we own it which is wrong . So for the American Indian thank you on behalf of American immigrants here in America for letting us serve and love this country .🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👏👍

  • A Native American is likely the best qualified to run the Interior Department. They are most knowledgeable about the treaties between them and the government thats been in place for many many years. They know more about how to manage the lands, all the while assuring all work abide by the treaties ultimately minimizing litigation when operations are performed outside the legal mandates in place, This is a good one.

  • I’m hoping that she is open to revising the “environmental doctrine ” from hands off classic sierra club dogma to an effective steward of forest lands that have been over planted and fire prone. These forests are a result of poor forest management catering to the forest products industry. We need to thin sick and dead trees out to let the healthy ones grow. Don’t tell me it will cost too much they are giving away trillions right now at least pay people to do something good for our environment.

  • deb has questioned tribal sovereignty in the past. get ready for some land deals to go bad for some native tribes. she also has three DWIs and never has passed the new mexico bar after three attempts. she is definitely a flawed person who is more likely to be blackmailed, she is perfect for job. the oil companies will own her completely in about 2 months.

  • Idk. The constitution says something about Indians exempt? But otherwise I’m glad to see this. We need real help saving the wild horses From the BLM. They are grossly mismanaging the animals… also the cattle ranchers say the horses are trampling the grass, but the horses were here before anybody. They were here when dinosaurs were. They want to drive them out of existence, make them extinct. They want to rid the prairies and mountains of wild horses.

  • Congratulations to Deb Haaland for being selected to serve as our next Interior Secretary. I am proud to see her serving in the Biden Administration and I thank President Biden for selecting Deb for that position. Deb Haaland is the very first Native American to serve in a cabinet position and I can’t wait to see what she does going forward.

  • deb certainly has issues, however she is not karen or sammy hagar, like all the other cabinet posts. now maybe she can help joe overcome some of his guilt projection problems or perhaps make him feel as if he is president of the land, in his robes and tents, but at least she wont be making your ‘lemonade’.
