Smart Switch is a Samsung data transfer solution that allows users to transfer content from previous devices to Galaxy phones and tablets. It is designed to upgrade data to new Galaxy devices, making it easier to transfer home screen layout, background, and settings to the new device.
Smart Switch is a user-friendly interface for transferring contacts, call logs, media, user accounts, and more. It allows users to choose what they want on their new device and can transfer almost everything, including contacts, apps, home screen layout, wallpapers, and folders.
When you first get your Samsung phone, like the S21, Smart Switch is part of the initial set up process. You can either do a backup on the old phone and restore on the new one or use Smart Switch to transfer everything from the old phone.
You can use Smart Switch to back up phone data to a PC or SD card, restore the backed up data to a phone, or transfer data from an old phone to a new device. It only allows or disallows Smart-Switch, with no extra parameters to fine tune whether home-screen layout can be migrated.
To use Smart Switch, connect both phones via USB Type C to each other and open it on both phones. You can transfer apps, contacts, call logs, messages, photos, videos, and other content to your new Galaxy device quickly and easily using Samsung Smart Switch.

Hey! So, I need help! 😭 smart switched from an A32 to the S24 Ultra. Google messages doesn’t receive my audio messages or article messages that were in Samsung messages. I’ve backed up, factory reset, tried a different method and NOTHING is working. At one point, my group messages in Google messages were separated. I tried using Google 1 as the backup data and also Samsung cloud. I think that method triplicate the SMS messages and left me with zero MMS ones. I have NO idea what I am doing wrong.
I tried this when I got my new Galaxy A54 5g. I tried to transfer my data from my Galaxy note 9 but I couldn’t get it to work. Even though I connected both phones with a USB cable. I get getting a message asking me to connect . Also I had downloaded smartswich to my old phone, the new one already had it.
This was really helpful but for whatever reason my photos don’t show up as an option to transfer from my Note 10’s SD card (to my new s23ultra). Only the articles. Anyone have any ideas? Im using the smart switch and I tried to see if it shows up using the wifi transfer option and the cable transfer option.
Hi, yesterday my s24 arrived and today I did a test with Smart Switch and it seems to have worked. During the procedure it asks you if you want to import everything or if you want to make a selection. I chose “everything” and it imported all the photos I had stored on the SD card. If you tap on “everything” it shows you what will import (apps, photos, documents etc) and in a separate block you will see the SD card. In any case, to be sure I had made a backup of the SD card.
Always uncheck ‘settings’ when transfering data. I’ve already seen topic on forums in my country that someones screen is looking worse than his S22ultra(it was yellowish for exemple) etc. Deleting all accesibility settings etc. was helping them to deal with these problems. This time I wasn’t transfering anything cause I kept phone cause I can’t tell much more. Just something to consider : )
My daughter who us away at college. She attempted an update on her 3 week old S23 ultra and her phone got corrupted. Just won’t come our if bios. TMOBILE tried to fix it as well as local Samsung warranty store. They sent a new device under warranty. She is trying to set up her new device and restore her photos, messages, and apps. What is the quickest way to restore or get all her info on her new device? She has a Samsung account as well as 2 Gmail/Google accounts. She has cloud storage on both but it isn’t showing anything to restore. Any help is appreciated.
Hey bro like the. article?, I did my transfer last week for my Note 9 to my 23 Ultra, I got everything the same just my lock screen and my wallpaper weren’t in my my stuff in things I’m One ring why as it should be identical,i? Do have a lot of information. Is it worth wiping my phone and doing Smart Switch again? If. You get back to me let me know. I have a SIM card in my new phone. It’s just not activated yet Very simple just never got around to it. Would that make a difference?
I tried the transfer twice Galaxy note9 to S23 and both times it will not save my google chrome website shortcuts that I put on my home screen. Any idea how I can get those changed from them being greyed out and stating I have to update but when I do the update it does nothing. I don’t want to go through and find every single web address and resave it to my home screen. PLEASE HELP!
Hi, you said that the wallet app won’t transfer. Is that correct? Because I have tickets to a show at the end of March stored in the wallet app. Will I lose them? I just received the S23 Ultra, and I was going to activate and transfer everything from my S20 Ultra to the S23 Ultra today. Will I lose the tickets I purchased?
So I was transferring data from my S9 plus to my new s23 ultra (with wires), but I saw my S9 plus battery running out. At this point I had to unplug it at 76% data process and charge the S9 plus and go back to do the data process. Will my data process continue from 76%? Or will I have to do it over again?
You don’t need to turn off the power to add or remove a sim card… It might even ask to restart depending on if your manufacturer installs vendor bloatware from your mobile network. A cable is much faster and uses much less power, but maybe it doesn’t resume? But smartphone backups are annoyingly lacking.
does the smart switch have the glitch this year like it had last year where if you would switch over your data from an old phone, there may have been a bug in the transfer file that caused you to get worse battery life? i want to just use smart switch but i would much rather do a fresh reset this way i do not have to encounter that bug
so my current Samsung device has a microSD card and I don’t have an extra microSD card for my new device so I’m planning on reusing it with my new device. My question is since the files on the microSD card and internal storage are larger then what i have for internal storage space on my new deivce can I back everything up using the smart switch windows app, to my PC. Then wipe the sdcard, install it into my new samsung phone and transfer everything from the backup on my PC to the new phone, during the initial setup of the phone? Basically doing what you did between the two Samsung phones but using my pc with th backup on it. Or would i have to do the initial setup of my new phone first, then within smart switch on my phone go to the restore option and restore it/transfer all my data from my backup on my PC?
Great step by step except I did not have a nice clean window open up for me trying to transfer from XS iPhone to s23 ultra it was a mess of confusion as my new phone was promoting me to do multiple things at the same time (transfer, set up new phone and get Samsung account all at once) I never used android before and didn’t have Samsung account it would not accept my correct pass code and the was no other device for verification, adopter was also not recognized by the new phone right away the keyboard on the phone only had numbers but cod sent has letters it took me 3 hours and I’m still not done yet I had t go to work … So far as Apple user only I don’t feel warm android welcome… Hope I can, sort it out before this phone goes in the trash … I was really exited for this phone ….

I transferred with smartswitch from an s9 to an s23 ultra with a Verizon tech assistant over the phone. During the transfer my old phone died and the rep never called me back. So I charged my phone and plugged it back into new phone and the transfer that was at 50% prior, started over. After a while it finished and I unconnected it from the provided cord. Since then iv noticed things missing. How do I get rest of my old phones content over to my new s23 ultra?
Is this before or after you install the sim card? I transferred my data to the new phone without thy sin card. But once my days transferred I put the sim in thy me phone and followed the process and I lost all my data on the new new phone. So do I reset the new phone back to factory and start all over or just over all over without the reset? Thank you
Sooo ive tried this. However its not moved any apps over, and only phone contacts (not previous msgs) ive done the whole deleting iMessage etc but still doesnt seem to transfer much over. Ive done it wireless not with cable…any ideas? 🤷🏼♂️ Also it only give me option to transfer contacts, calendar, images, articles not everything?
Although this is a brilliant system the most obvious fault I find and I cannot understand why they do not updated is that the Smart switch app just says transferring data it does not say sending or receiving, I’ve almost had heart failure a couple of times when I think I have updated my old phone with new phone history?!?
I had a LG G3 and a galaxy s7 and a s21 but I found pictures from the LG G3 on the galaxy s7 in addition to s7 pics but no pics from s21 and on the s21, i found pics from the LG G3, the s7 in addition to pics taken with the s21. On the LG G3, I only found pics taken with the Lg G3 plus a couple pictures taken with the xiaomi mi max in the /Downloads folder on the LG G3. I have no explanation for this other than….that maybe my brother made samsung smart switch transfer from the LG G3 to the galaxy s7, then made a s7 backup to PC….then transferred data from the s7 to the s21 using smart switch…and then made a s21 backup to PC using smart switch. Is this correct reasoning ? I have no other reason for this mess up backups
