Can Ortho Home Defense be used outside?

The author has been using a product for years without any issues with killing vegetation, including grass, ornamental plants, flowers, and vegetables. They have also used it on the outside perimeter of their house and on the grass/mulch of gardens without any harm. The author shares their experience with an orange tree stuck in limbo, where they over-spray a branch or two and noticed new shoots appearing at that location. They spayed the whole tree the next day, and the same thing happened with other plants as well.

The author is shocked to see the new green growth and kill the good bugs, such as mantis and lady bugs, as well as other beneficial bugs. However, the author notes that russet mites and spider mites can cause problems that are not visible with the eye or other cellular eating insects. If you feel like using this product will help create a healthier plant, use it like the author did without any issues.

The instructions only say not to spray on flowers that bees may land on BEFORE it dries, and it is important to remember not to spray if it will rain before it can dry. The author personally sprays around the base of gardens, not on the actual plants, to control any bugs that might otherwise eat the leaves, flowers, and vegetables.

The product is recommended for indoor and outdoor environments, but it is up to the user to decide if it works for them. For questions, the phone number for questions on the label is 1-800-225-2883 or go to ortho. com to ask them directly. The author hopes this information helps.

How long after pest control sprays outside is it safe?

To ensure a successful pesticide treatment, it is recommended to wait at least 30 minutes before going outside and walking around the sprayed area, keeping pets indoors during this time. This helps reduce the risk of breathing in pesticides and allows the pesticide to dry and perform its job in the treated area. To prepare your property for pesticide treatments, follow these steps:

  1. Clean your property thoroughly before pest control technicians arrive.
  2. Remove any debris or debris from the area, such as leaves or debris.
  3. Cover your property with plastic or other protective materials to prevent stains and odors.

How long to wait after exterminator sprays outside?

Pest control sprays typically take 2-4 hours to dry, requiring inhabitants to stay away from them to avoid health problems. The time it takes to return after a pest control treatment depends on the type of treatment used, with some using toxic pesticides that require air quality levels to return to normal before inhabitants can return. A general rule of thumb is to give pest control treatments 2-4 hours to set in and then an extra 30 minutes to breathe with windows open and fans on to allow fresh air to flow through before returning. For more intensive treatment options like fumigation, a safety check will need to be conducted before inhabitants are allowed to return.

Modern pest control experts use ecofriendly alternatives that are safer for routine pest maintenance. These treatments use extracts of naturally occurring plants to create a mixture that effectively eliminates and repels bugs. While direct contact with these safer treatments is not recommended, modern safety regulations require them to be diluted down to ensure safety around people, pets, and children. If harsher products are used, the exterminator should inform the inhabitants of an area on how long they should be gone while treatment is being completed.

Does Ortho Home Defense wash away with rain?

The application of this product in calm weather, with no predicted precipitation for the subsequent 24 hours, ensures that the pesticide will remain in situ, protected from wind or rain.

  • Great article and right to the point. How long does this stuff last? A full year if it is used INSIDE the home and three months if it is used OUTSIDE. I live in the desert. There are scorpions, millepedes and ants here. We were using a professional exterminator but I cancelled them and bought this stuff. I haven’t seen any insects since I started using it two months ago. I’m going to use this spray inside every three or four months and even outside here is not like outside elsewhere. It’s very dry here, like less than ten inches of rain a year. We’ll see how often I use it outside.
