Douching the right way is a simple and effective DIY feminine wash method that involves flushing the rectum with water. To make a homemade douche, mix 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water. Plain, lukewarm water is typically the safest choice, as it is essential during outdoor expeditions. Some people add mild, unscented soap, but it’s crucial to rinse thoroughly to avoid residue.
A water bottle douche, also known as a homemade douche, is a DIY method of cleaning the vaginal or anal area using a plastic water bottle filled with a solution, typically water mixed with vinegar or baking soda. There are several safe methods for anal douching, including choosing a method, preparing your tool, sitting over the toilet or tub, and applying lube.
To avoid the spread of bacteria, start with a clean nozzle and douche to avoid the spread of bacteria. Use water that’s slightly less than lukewarm to avoid burning the mucosal. This type of solution comes with a saline enema kit or can be made at home by mixing a half-teaspoon of salt into 1 cup of water.
Douching can be performed after the vaginal packing is removed and once dilation has begun. An antimicrobial medication, Nidagel, is used for the first few weeks. To make a homemade douche for feminine hygiene, prepare a douching solution by mixing 1 part vinegar and 3 parts water. Alternatively, purchase a douching kit from your local pharmacy.
There are better and safer alternatives to douching, such as using a small mouth disposable water bottle pressed against your anus and squeezing water into it. SmartWater bottles with sport tops work even better.

When I open my legs, it smells fishy.?
The presence of an odor between the legs, characterized by a fishy, rotten, or spoiled smell, is indicative of an underlying infection. In most cases, a yeast infection results in a sourdough-like odor, whereas bacterial vaginosis (BV) is often accompanied by a fishy scent. The pH levels of semen and ejaculate differ, and thus, P-in-V intercourse has the potential to disrupt the pH balance, resulting in a temporary alteration in odor.
What can I use instead of a douche?
To maintain a hygienic and healthy vagina, it is recommended to wash it with water when bathing or showering. It is advised to use a non-fragranced or vaginal-specific wash that does not disrupt the natural pH balance. The outer folds of the vagina should be gently held back while the area is rinsed or splashed with water. It is inadvisable to scrub the area and to avoid allowing soap or other cleansing agents to come into contact with the skin. Following the application of a cleansing agent, the area should be rinsed thoroughly and patted dry gently.
Can I make my own douche?
To prepare a saline solution for domestic use, the water from the tap should be boiled in order to sterilise it. Once this process is complete, the water should be left to cool until it reaches a temperature that is neither too hot nor too cold. Subsequently, add ½ teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and store at room temperature for 3 days.
What is the healthiest way to douche?
Anal douching involves flushing out the rectum with water or other liquid to feel cleaner and more relaxed before or after anal sex. It can reduce contact with feces, parasites, and bacteria. People may douche before anal sex for its hygienic benefits and perceived pleasure. To minimize irritation, avoid douching too often, use only the necessary amount of water per douche, use saline solution, ensure the douche is clean, use a water-based lubricant on the nozzle, and use suitable douching equipment. This article discusses the benefits and risks of anal douching, types of douches, how to perform it, and some alternatives.

What does BV smell like?
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an infection caused by an imbalance in vaginal flora, causing a fishy smell and unpleasant vaginal odors. It is often associated with gray or grayish-white discharge. Trichomoniasis is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a parasite, causing a fishy or musty smell and greenish-yellow discharge. Rectovaginal fistula is a rare condition where feces leaks into the vagina, causing foul-smelling discharge.
Vaginal cancer symptoms include heavy vaginal discharge with a strong odor, while cervical cancer symptoms can include a strong, bad-smelling discharge. If a tampon is forgotten, an odor like rotten meat may develop, but this disappears once removed.
What can I drink to get rid of discharge?
Home remedies like tea tree oil and guava tea can help relieve vaginal discharge and related symptoms, often used as a supplement to doctor’s treatment. These remedies aim to restore normal vaginal flora levels and reduce symptoms of conditions like yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and trichomoniasis. Condoms should be used during sexual intercourse during home treatment. If discharge persists for over three days or is accompanied by intense burning, itching, or pain, consult a doctor before using these remedies.
What can I drink to flush out BV?
Probiotics, live bacteria found in certain foods and supplements, may help restore balance in vaginal bacteria and may be safe for consumption. Consuming yogurt or probiotic supplements may also treat bacterial vaginosis. Boric acid, a white powder with antifungal and antiviral properties, may be used to treat bacterial vaginosis with few side effects. However, boric acid should only be used after a diagnosis and should be checked with a doctor. Preventing bacterial vaginosis can be achieved through not having sex, using a male condom, not douching, and avoiding scented soaps for vaginal cleansing.
Is it OK to douche daily?
The practice of excessive anal douching has been linked to the potential damage of the intestinal lining and an increased risk of infection, even when utilizing appropriate equipment and liquid. It is recommended that douching be limited to once per day or 2-3 times per week. It is of the utmost importance to undergo regular STI testing in order to ensure one’s safety during sexual intercourse. This can be done at a medical clinic or at home.
When should a woman douche?
Around 20-40% of American women aged 15-44 use a vaginal douche, with higher rates among teens and African-American and Hispanic women. Douching is used to feel fresher, remove unpleasant odors, wash menstrual blood, avoid sexually transmitted diseases, and prevent pregnancy. However, health experts argue that douching is not effective and can increase the risk of infections, pregnancy complications, and other health issues. The term “douche” comes from the French word “wash” or “soak”, and is a method of washing the vagina with a mixture of water and vinegar.
Does douching help with smell?
Do not douche to remove vaginal odor or other issues like discharge, pain, itching, or burning. Douching only covers odor temporarily and can worsen other issues. If you experience bad vaginal discharge, itching, burning, redness, swelling, pain during urination, or discomfort during sex, these may indicate a vaginal infection or an STI. Do not douche before consulting a doctor or nurse, as this can make it difficult to identify the root cause.

I bought an enema ball, It’s nothing about sexualitiy, I have been having problem with sores and itching for years on end, Since using this in the short time, It has cleaned me inside out, Shower gel and warm water, Even disinfectant and water. This could be the key to maybe prevent infections such as hemorroids and whatever, Or general irritatatiin. Again.. Does not need to be about sexualitiy, I am using it for good hygiene and it’s working perfectly, And it’s eliminating any problems I had.
Thanks 🙏… I have LARS, following colorectal surgery and this is very helpful to manage ongoing issues. I’m still a bit unsure about how to keep the parts of a bulb enema sterile in between use, as its hard to dry the inside of the balloon… dampness attracts all sorts of bacteria and fungus. I don’t like to use water irrigation too often as it potentially washes away essential colonic flora and interferes with final vitamin absorption and production that happens in the bowel. Does anyone reading have any reliable info, or tips re. this question of keeping the parts bacteria free in between use? PS I thought I would share alternative methods of flushing bowels with cheap and accessible, osmotic laxative-type supplements: (megadosing) Vit C (ie ascorbic acid powder), Magnesium Chloride capsules, MSM, or Ayuverdic Triphala. Any of these, (or any combo), plus 2 large tumblers of water, (or powder dissolved in lots of water, which can be flavoured/juice/tea) …. They all require a bit of experimentation to get the right personal dose. They work best on an empty stomach and passively within 1-2 hours of taking – longer time, so maybe not for quickie pleasure on whim). Some of them in powder form don’t taste great, I have to say, but they are effective alternatives to anal douching that have the additional and positive health benefits of supplementing essential minerals vitamins, which prevent disease-forming internal oxidisation, lower bad cholesterol, risk of developing diabetes, bone degeneration etc.
This feels like an okay place to say that I just came out as transfem very recently. I was previously a gay man, before doing research and coming to the pragmatic conclusion I was trans, I was always afraid of bottoming. It makes sense now, but I’m feeling comfort enough to attempt. This was extremely helpful!!!
This is great! Thanks for being so frank Just putting this out here for anyone with similar experiences… personally, in order for me to fully clean out my butt, I need to actually lay back and hold by ass open for shower water. I fill myself pretty good, and fully cleaning and ACTUALLY getting everything in there takes me a half hour to an hour. Am I the only one who does this? It seems like other gays are so casual about douching and nobody talks about needing to do a deep cleaning like this
This is so clear and useful. However, I have a question for you/all. I followed your steps exactly but no water came out. I think I felt it going in but when I clenched to poop the water out, nothing came out. I put a bit more in but it’s like it dissappeared the moment it entered my butt. And I was worried about putting too much in. Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong? It was bizarre tbh. I feel like such a dumb top right now 😂
Kevin, thank you so much for the editorial you have given on Duchenne. There are so many young people just starting out that need to know this information.. you are the only person I’ve seen that told people to use lubricant on the tip of the douche bag which is important. Thank you. Sincerely, Chris .
So what I did was take the straw out that dispenses soap from an old shampoo bottle cut the two sides of the straw so it’s flat and not sharp then I poked a hole into the bottle cap and inserted the straw you can use this bottle cap and straw device on any bottle and it’s discreet and if you don’t have access to douching devices this works. Hope this helps 😉
I have to say I never even thought anyone would have the nerve to do anything like this to my amazement I stumbled across your site and this is very helpful and explain so good you’re really good at explaining things I’m grateful someone like you is willing to proceed and do things like this to your awesome nobody’s ever told you thank you for what you do😊👍
