Matt Watson, Sales Professional at Don Hattan Chevrolet, explains how to override your dome light in a Chevrolet. To turn off the Daytime Running (DRL) lights, turn the exterior lamp control to and then release Lamps (DRL) it. For vehicles first sold in Canada, DRL can make it easier for drivers. Sharod Wallace, new car sales associate at Jeff Gordon Chevrolet, demonstrates how to operate the interior lighting in a new Chevrolet using a 2 button (Rear Window Defogger).
To adjust the dome light switch, look at the switch located on the front center ceiling of the car. The only way to turn off the lights is to pull the fuse. In the 2006 HHR LT, there is a blue-ish light in the front center ceiling of the car that can be turned off by pulling the fuse. The dome light override button is located next to the exterior lamps control.
The headlight switch has a dimmer that turns the dome lights on. If none is present, the switch is not functioning properly. There is a button to the left of the wheel under the dash light dial. It sounds like a short in the dome lamp circuit somewhere. If the power side of the circuit is shorted, the fuse should pop. If the ground side is, the dimmer switch should be checked.
Press the buttons OFF to turn the lamps off, even when a door is open, ON/OFF to turn the dome lamps on manually or automatically, and check the dimmer switch that controls the brightness of the gauges. At the end of its travel, it clicks and manually turns the interior lights on.
