Can Regular Paintbrushes Be Used For Cake Decorating?

This tutorial demonstrates how to paint on a cake using buttercream frosting, palette knives, and paint brushes. Regular paint brushes may pose potential risks and health concerns as they may contain residual paint or chemicals from previous use, which can contaminate the edible medium and create a food safety hazard. The Wilton 5 piece decorating brush set and the Wilton 2 piece dusting brush set are recommended for this purpose.

There are various techniques for painting on cakes, such as spatula icing, piping, fondant work, hand painting, sugar work, mirror glaze, and airbrushing. To create a more painterly effect, it is best to use meringue buttercream with a smooth and silky texture, such as Swiss or Italian. It is fine to use regular paint brushes as long as they are food-exclusive, so don’t use them for acrylic paint and then later use them for food.

The tutorial also discusses different techniques for painting buttercream cakes, such as using an actual paint brush and edible paint made with gel food coloring and a bit of alcohol. These brushes are perfect for dusting on lustre dusts and glitter, painting with edible paints, or applying edible glitter. To paint on gumpaste, mix food coloring or dusting powder with a little alcohol and paint with regular paintbrushes.

In conclusion, using regular paint brushes for cake decorating can be a safe and effective method for adding detail and color to cakes. However, it is essential to use food-safe paint brushes and avoid using them for food purposes.

  • Moriah is the kind of youtuber that you can watch the same article and still laugh at everything and never get bored Edit: I just thought of this. What if she made matching paint brushes to all her paint pallets and matching paint pallets to the paint brushes she made in this article Edit 2: dang almost 90 likes thanks! 🙂

  • Some genius commented this: She should make a yearbook full of her characters, the seniors could be the oldest squishies, etc etc. You should also include the awards section with class clown hottest couple etc. Edit: It is not my idea! Do not give me credit. :))) Edit 2: Stop saying “she did it” I know I own it 🙂

  • There is a seller on Amazon who is selling Moriah’s squishy designs, Merch, without giving her any credit. This isn’t fair, Moriah works so hard on all of her squishes and merch. Let’s try to get Moriah to see this. Thank you! Copy-paste to let her know. (Okay y’all, I suppose we can stop now… She doesn’t like comment bombs.. Sorry to all those who got annoyed because of this. ..My humble apologies.)

  • i don’t like the comments asking her to make a skateboard. as a skater myself, 99% of the time, when someone who doesn’t skate makes skate merchandise, it doesn’t work well at all. if i get a skateboard i want to skate it, not just stare at it, and as much as i would love a moriah skateboard, she doesn’t have the experience to create a good quality one. and that’s not a bad thing.

  • I love how Moriah keeps in all her mistakes instead of cutting it out like most YouTubers. She isn’t scared to show that she’s human and that she makes mistakes. But loads of YouTubers try to make it look like everything went perfect and that they are perfect, but nobody is, and someone who isn’t afraid to accept it and embraces it like Moriah is a lot more perfect.

  • I don’t want this to turn into a comment bomb, but if you want to copy and paste to share you can 😀 Moriah should paint the squishes that she really wants to paint, the one that she called “my pets” in her sorting squishes article! I was called “my beauties” or something like that I think correct me if I’m wrong 😂

  • Literally everything u do is amazing and always turns out amazing, in my opinion. I get fascinated by what u do. I love how u turn something so random into a piece of art. I appreciate all of ur hard work on articles. It must take a long time to make and edit the articles. U always make me laugh with those funny edits and ur jokes. I didn’t watch ur articles for a long while. I wanted to save up some articles to watch in one day. Keep doing all of that amazing and hilarious work🎨

  • What if u decorated a brush with a brush and then decorated that brush with the brush your decorated the first brush and then used both brushes to decorate another brush with the brushes that you used when you decorated the first brush that you then painted another brush then you decorated one brush with the other brush. I’m so good at explaining stuff

  • Anyone else want to see her paint an entire card set? It could be like a series and eventually, she’ll have a whole deck!! Copy so Moriah can see but try to be careful we don’t wanna force her! 🙂 Also We need to remind Moriah to start working on her “annual” painting on seashells article. Copy and paste so we can remind her. WOOT WOOT! No pressure whatsoever.
