Sleeping on an incline, especially with an adjustable bed, can alleviate symptoms such as acid reflux, improved heart health, and better circulation, which can improve restless leg syndrome symptoms. The Amerisleep Adjustable Bed Base and Amerisleep Adjustable Bed+ are recommended for this purpose. Acid reflux is an intense burning sensation in the chest when lying down, which can worsen when lying flat, especially after a large meal. Resting on an adjustable bed can help reduce these symptoms and prevent further damage.

How many bed risers do you need?
Bed risers are small cube-shaped boxes or rods that attach to bed legs to increase height. They are made of rubber, heavy-duty plastic, metal, or wood and require four to six risers depending on the bed size and whether there is a headboard. Bed height doesn’t affect comfort but can create a better sleep environment for some sleepers, especially taller ones or those with mobility issues. When choosing bed risers, consider the current height of your bed frame and the thickness of your mattress. The average bed frame is 25 inches tall, but lower profile frames can be as short as 6 inches.
How do I elevate my bed for sleeping?
To elevate your bed, use cement, bricks, or books under the feet near your head. If not possible, invest in bed risers that support bed posts or legs. Bed wedges can be placed between your mattress and box spring or under the sheets. A therapeutic wedge pillow can simulate an elevated bed, but may cause neck pain. Elevate your bed to the right height, with the ideal height being at least 6-8 inches (15-20 centimeters). This height is medically proven to prevent acid reflux when lying down.
The more elevation, the better, but comfortable sleep is essential. Using a wedge pillow secures your position and prevents sliding down, making it as effective as elevating your bed. It also helps prevent neck pain and keeps you elevated all night.

I love bedroom sets. It’s just my personal preference and I don’t need an expert to tell me otherwise. Especially since I’m not someone who does a good job at putting together random pieces (I’ve tried for many many years and I just don’t have an eye for it like some people do). Also I refuse to pay anyone to do it for me. So bedroom sets are my go to and they just uncomplicate my life. I add paintings and unique accent pieces as a way to create some individuality in my space and I think that approach works best for me. Painting can also be nice when done well on just one wall.
I agree with everything you said but think you left out a few thing. A bedroom should be a romantic sanctuary and should not include a TV, exercise equipment or a work area. A bedroom is meant for two purposes, one of them is sleeping. The other one is not perusal TV, exercising or doing work. Also dirty clothes hampers should not be visible; clean clothes should be put away and not piled up for ironing; and definitely no clutter. You should have something that pays music. I should mention that I’m a man and dress my bed day
Arvin, I would like your view on rugs for the bedroom. I completely re-did my master bedroom last year…paint, flooring and furniture. I’m not wild about a big rug halfway under the bed on my pretty new floors, so I was in ‘At Home’ and got 2 large fluffy throw rugs in a silver/grey color for either side of the bed. It looks quite nice and I can see the floor. I know it’s my decision but I wanted your take on it. Thanks!
Dear Arvin, thank you for informing me that I’ve completely F’d up decorating every single aspect of my home. Coming from anyone else I would have been completely devastated, offended and angered. Finding this out from you however has made me feel inspired, actually energized and happy to start redecorating! Using your ideas and recommendations of course. Nobody asked but I’m Absolutely loving this series and can’t wait to find out even more ways that I’ve completely F’d up! Thank you ❤️ from Shannon in Canada 🇨🇦
I can’t quite put my finger on why I love perusal your articles SO MUCH. Is it your sense of humor, your class, your whimsical disposition??? I love it all. Thank you for sharing all that you do. Oh, and YES, I must make my bed first thing in the morning. Like you said, it just starts my day off right, and makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. ~Christina
I laughed so hard when I saw the messy bed with someone laying in it, lol. Not only do we make the bed if I get into the bed first, my husband has to straighten it before getting in lol You articles are always entertaining and you are teaching us at the same time. I’d love to see a article like this for the bathroom!
My friend and I have made a pact that she will euthanize me if I ever put one of those stupid trays ( atop a throw draped at an angle ) at the foot of my bed like all the youtube “modern farmhouse” women. What….what even is the point of that??? LOL Anyway……I adore you and your website and can’t wait to find out what you have for us next!
I had so many pillows and stuffed animals on my bed to the point where you could barely sleep in it, and every night I would throw EVERYTHING off the beds accept for like two pillows and there would be a massive pile of pillows on the floor. Now my bed just looks flat. Also, I make my bed every morning because it just makes my room look clean.
I’m super late to this party but have to say — loved the article and your energy. Have to say I don’t feel the same about the wall-mounted nightstands! I have ones I really love that have a door on the front with space for a book and stuff. Looks good, so much easier to vacuum/mop (wood floors) and makes the room look big. Just my take! Other advice was great!
I make my bed to show my appreciation for keeping me safe during the night. I don’t hit my head on the Head-board, i don’t fall to the floor because of the mattress and my pillows are cranial cradles unmatched. I also provide my bed with the finest linens I can afford. It’s an Elegant Life’s Luxury to crawl into a beautifully made bed.
10:35am I loved the article! The pop-ins were so funny! Thank goodness I am innocent of all 10″Stop doing this to your bedroom” charges!! and YES I make my bed EVERYDAY! Thank you again I am a new follower of you🎉I would like to see your suggestions on what and what not to do with a long double wall staircase I just do not know how to decorate these 2 walls that are 20 ft long!
Once in junior high I was called down to the principal’s office to go home. Got home bewildered and asked mom why was I called home? Mom replied, ” You didn’t make your bed this morning.” I was so angry and of course embarrassed when friends asked why I had to go home, but I never left the house again without making my bed, to this day. Making your bed in the morning sets the tone for the day.
I’m so happy that he mentioned about bedroom sets. I had always wanted one, until recently when I repurposed a cherry wood headboard and an antique dresser. Then years later I found an antique nightstand for one side of my bed and bought a black cube storage for the other side of my bed. Thank you for teaching me my furniture styles didn’t need to match.
@ArvinOlano Ehere did you get that green sculpture?! I remember my friend had one just like it and was carrying it around with them for years. Said it’s valuable and I was like…ok why are you just carrying it around with you and I didn’t like it much but thought it was interesting still and didn’t know why they assumed it was worth anything.
Ha-ha! I know in my heart that you’re absolutely right (and my bedroom even reflects your principles), but there’s a cheesy side of me that wants my bedroom to look like a red brothel – and even if a dark red would shrink an already small room, the space can, of course, be expanded by the extensive use of mirrors LOL.
Most of my life I didn’t make my bed, but I used to not be organized or neat, and a bit of a hoarder. I reformed myself, and like a tidy house, and no matter how clean the house is, it just doesn’t look clean if the bed isn’t made, so I make it every day now, and it just looks so pretty and always feels so inviting when we go to bed at night!
I also make the bed every morning! I agree that it gets the morning off to a good start, especially when working from home and having to walk past/see the bed constantly. It makes me enjoy the space more and want to be in the area. When I don’t make the bed on rare occasions, it just feels messy and like a lazy day.
Hello Arvin..yes…I make my bed every morning. I think it as a little gift to my future self. When I go to bed- tired to the bone…everything is aligned and calming. It gives me a sense of sanctuary. I make my bed every morning also because it gives me a feeling of a job completed at the start of the day. Great vid. Good advice and love your energy.
Hi Arvin, Billie Jean here, LOL. You have such spot on advice but I was so shocked and then had to laugh so hard that I bought a whole bedroom set. I do love it though and I’m keeping it but I would have done differently if I had seen this article first. (It is pretty though.) I am enjoying you not only for your great pointers but for your humor. You are so enjoyable!
My rule will bed pillows, is that if it’s not there for some functional purpose, it shouldn’t be there. The notion of having countless pillows on the bed that have to be removed every evening to actually use the bed, literally makes zero sense. Why waste time and money on something that has no functional utility? Before anyone says it looks nice, a bed with just functional pillows usually looks nicer and less cluttered than a bed trying to look like a try-hard magazine cover.
I agree with you. I have a burgundy bedroom and painted it years ago when that was the style. I liked it for a short while. Now I hate any shade of red in the bedroom. I’m getting ready to repaint my entire house & will never do red/burgundy again. I feel as if it increases my anxiety so I need something soothing and calming. Great tips! And run from red! 😉😂
I ‘m definitely someone who makes my bed everyday, I love how it looks, to me a made bed is part of design 😍. If for any reason I couldn’t make my bed 1st thing in the morning, I have made my bed right before I got into it. It’s self care for me. I sleep better in a made bed. Also you can literally tell how mentally healthy I am by how well my bed is kept. If I go longer than a few days without making my bed, everyone around me should be concerned. It means I’m feeling discouraged or depressed. I need prayer and a probably a therapist 🙂
hi. just want to say, your advices are…well, amazing. maybe you’ll find the time to read my comment and to respond to an sos call: I have two guest houses and a reaaalllyy big workshop, I can do basically anything from wood or iron or both. I just want something to impress my guests but to be warm and cozy in the same time. I’ve build until now a queen size bed from oak on a pipe steel iron frame, everlasting for sure, rustic stile. But somehow I still don’t feel lyke in the old gramma’s house. What can I build or do to make my bedrooms more welcoming ?Thanx a lott
Things I consider when buying furniture & decorating: Does this work practically in the space I have? Is it within my budget? Is it it aesthetically pleasing to me & work with the design of the room and space? Things I don’t consider, nor do I care about: Do lots of other people have this item? Is this popular or unpopular?
First time perusal this website. Love the confirmation that I’ve done all right but one. Floating night stands. But what can I say I love them. For cleaning purposes. Makes my floors easier to clean. I won’t change them for the world. I don’t mind removing and patching if it makes my life easier in the long run.
Arvin, ‘what you need to stop doing’ is to STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT NOT TO DO. Designing own bedroom is very personal expression who people are. How would you feel if someone said to you to ‘stop dressing and laughing the way you are because you look awkward. You and your laughter should be send to jail. Hahahaha’. Also why are you stereotyping red? How would you feel… YT algorithm sometimes surpasses surprise elements and sends me to articles like this… NEVER AGAIN WILL I BE BACK HERE. Block. “…hahahaha”
Excellent article ; you made me laugh a lot but your observations are so much on point. Another thing about tufted, what we French call “capitonné” they give me the creeps : they reek of mental asyleum or shrink doors … Multipattern gives headaches and sends confusing vibes in a place where serenity should reign.
I’m perusal this because I’m moving my entertainment room into my bedroom. I designed my entertainment room to be dark creepy and spooky or kind of gothic. The walls were gray but I had a black accent wall and a lot of the stuff in the room was black. I also had skull stuff and skeletal stuff everywhere in the room. There were also candles and dead flowers. It also had cheap Halloween decorations but it still looked kind of cool.
I love my bedroom set. It fits my style. I designed my room around a bedspread I loved. My wall color is a beautiful dark gold color. I have purple Curtains that are also from the bedspread. I even picked a color from the bedspread for my master bathroom walls. I loved a lot of your stop doing this recommended. And yes I make my bed every day.
I don’t know how I’m going to do it but I have a bedroom set that I love. Never have I owned anything that matched. I have a full size bed, a nightstand, large chest of drawers and a triple dresser with mirror. My problem is, the place I’m moving to ☹️ The bedroom is 12×10 and one of the 12 ft walls has a window right smack in the middle of it. Imo it’s wasting valuable space. I don’t want to get rid of anything but I have a feeling that I’ll end up having to. 😢
I make my bed everyday. And yes, we have a bedroom set. We bought it years ago before we knew about design options and the internet to give us endless inspiration and professional advice. There’s no accent wall, no boho, no red, no tufting, no cluttered pillows, no floating shelves, you get the picture. My curtains are too short, and I need two new lamps because one got broken. I am drawn to your articles because you are light hearted and charming. Thank you for keeping us informed.
