With An Rv, How Do You Hang Wall Decor?

The most secure way to mount items on the walls of your RV is with small screws and nails. Velcro or 3M Command Strips are the most common method for mounting things in your RV. Sticky-back Hooks are plastic hooks that stick to the wall, while Museum Putty is a popular choice for hanging plants.

In this video, the author shares how to hang items on RV walls without damaging them with adhesive hooks or strips, small screws, and anchors carefully installed into wall studs. To hang items without holes in the RV walls, follow these steps:

  1. Prep the walls by preparing the surface, attaching Velcro to it, pressing and waiting, and hanging.
  2. Choose a palette of whites, soft grays, and natural wood tones for decor.
  3. Keep furnishings minimal but functional, opting for pieces with clean lines and multipurpose features.
  4. Use Command Velcro Strips for hanging picture frames in an RV.
  5. In an RV or motorhome, adhesive hangers and hooks are essential for organizing and hanging pictures.
  6. Choose the right anchors and screws for your needs, depending on what you want to hang and if it will be removed at some point.
  7. Hang metal signs using Museum Putty, which can be painted gray to match the wall.
  8. Use adhesive strips or strips to secure items to the wall, and ensure they stay in place when moving around the RV.

  • Great job on the article! I like the 3M ones, although expensive because I tend to change up the art in my RV frequently and they are so easy to remove and leave no residue or damage to the wall. Katie, even though my style is not rustic, I love your RV decor. You and Eric inspire me to change up my RV 😉 I love your printables.

  • Great article! I was just looking for command strip alternatives and figured you guys would have a article on this 🙂 I will say, we use industrial strength Velcro on our rugs to keep the corners down and it works fantastic. No residue from the adhesive when you need to remove….however have not tried to use these on our painted walls…wish me luck.

  • Cool a refreshing change from Eric, Just teasing 😉 Great Job Katie!!!!!! Actually I use a similar version by 3M. The same Velcro that is used for the EZ-PASS/IPASS, it’s called Toll Tape “in bulk” 709 by 3M with a dab of clear silicone “if needed” in the event the adhesive fails on a warn day. GREAT JOB!

  • As much as I like using acrylic mounting tape for everything, I do love how easily interchangeable the artwork is with using Velcro….I think I will switch to Velcro too for hanging frames! I have used it before on drywall and painted cinder block walls and in both cases when I went to remove it the wall came with it – but I haven’t tried the hair dryer method and maybe the vinyl RV wallpaper would be a bit stronger and easier to scrape it off of than drywall would be.

  • Great idea and article! I liked your tip about using two longer horizontal strips for easier lining up and leveling. I’ve used these in our stick and bricks home and they worked great. They came off the wall with no damage when I carefully used a razor blade to remove them. Keep making articles beautiful lady!

  • Great tips for hanging pictures. I’m doing research on living full time in a RV. I have some amazing pictures in my apartment that I don’t want to part with. Problem is that they are on the heavy side. Not many but some, and of course the ones I esp want to keep. I thought it would help changing out the glass for a plastic type thing. I may be able to change a couple of the frames for (ick..lol) plastic. However some frames are part of the art. I see that the Velcro works very well, but I don’t think it would be enough. And can you remove the Velcro bit off the wall without damaging it? If I HAD to put holes in the wall, can that even be done? And if so, what would be the issues about doing it? Thank you for sharing your ideas!
