I believe the ‘face’ of the block is 1.25in normally. Would it be best to then use 2.5″ tapcons (1.5″ gap and 1″ into block), using the alum spacers you mentioned, or is it okay to get longer, say 3 or 3.5″ and then have the tapcon go into the hollow portion of the block? Also I know you mentioned not going into the furring strip but can it be done or is the alum spacer a better method? I assume in my case I would need a 1.5″ spacer and not the 3/4″ you mentioned?
